“Not much to write home about but good value”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 19, 2012

Some friends and I stayed here for a week for the festival. We had the option of several different tiered apartments and we went for the cheaper ‘3rd line’ apartments and I have to say it made no difference to us to have to walk that TINY bit more to get to the beach. We were still REALLY close AND located closer to the supermarket which is what you need when you're staying in a self-catering place.

We booked our apartment via a private owner. The apartments are an OK size but I wouldn’t say it would be comfortable for more than 5 people which is what we had (the apartment sleeps 6). We were informed that the apartment had air-con but in actual fact only one room had air-con and the air did not distribute into the other rooms so it did get very stuffy and warm, whilst the person in the room with the air-con was left freezing cold.
We had lots of issues with the plumbing and the equipment in the kitchen, so did our others friends in their apartment two floors down. Both apartments had problems with the showers and it took four days until this was taken care of and even then only one apartment was fixed. We were also told that there would be "free wifi" but this turned to be untrue. HOWEVER it was an inexpensive rate of 6 Euro for 7 days. The only issue was that you could only use it on one device at a time, meaning we couldn’t all use it to access our mobile wifi.
The apartment complex itself is nice and generally well located. The pool is small but clean and had plenty of space to sun bathe around the side. We went for the festival and felt that we were well placed to get there from our apartments although A LOT could be said for the coach service to the festival, the owner of the apartment recommended DANESP but I would never EVER EVER choose to use them ever again. They are rude and unhelpful and incredibly unreliable. I wish the owner of the apartment had not recommended them so highly, as I felt that we were really mislead into using someone that makes a business out of ripping off tourist..... In general I'd recommend the apartments in Marina D'or, ours wasn't fantastic but fair going for the price and the issues we did have didn't ruin our time too much as we were only there to sleep in between the festival.

I would say though that for a self-catering place, it would have been appreciated if the owner could at least leave some cleaning products and bin bags in the apartment just so that we could keep on top of stopping the place turning into a pigsty! - some toilet roll would have also been great, not the best to get there after travelling for hours to find nothing in the bathroom!

We stayed in a 2 bedroom self-catering apartment during FIB 2012. I can't really fault the apartment, it's nothing out of this world but it's in a great location for the festival, reasonably priced and you save a lot of money by being able to cook your own food. The pool was quiet and clean, and the apartment building was the same. I would recommend it for the festival, but perhaps not a two week family holiday!

We stayed t these apartments when we went to Benicassim festival, we got the train to Beni and then had to walk to find a taxi to the apartments, when we found the resport called Marina D'or we were sent to 2 different receptions bebfore being able to check in (resort is huge) so we were walking for a while. Once found right reception we were then sent off on our own to find the apartment and only given one set of keys. (there was 3 couples in the apartment). once we found it the apartment itself was clean and rather spacious (2 bedrooms and a sofa bed) with a large balcony. When we went to get a shower after a day of traveling there was no water. Went to reception to report this but no one came out. Ended up having to shower round the pool !! went to report again the next day and still no one came ! ended up coming at 10pm 2 days later. On the 3rd day the key ring broke and the room key had fell out in a taxi. we had to go back to resport to report this and they told us it would be 8 hours for a new one !! so me and my partner had had to stay in and miss a night of the festival which we had paid £180 for. We were eventually let in by a cleaner and had to go collect key the next day. On the second to last day the tilet decided to flood and again it took a whole day for someone to come and when he did he just rammed a mop down it. Were told hairdriers were provided but again had to go to reception and leave a 20 euro deposit. Also had to leave a 200 euro deposit for room which we were not told about beforehand. Taxis are very limited and you can be waiting a while, right bad points over ............. The apartment itself was lovely, it was a 2 min walk to the beach and supermarket and little bars and restraunts (restraunts were not good at all we went out of complex every night). The beach is clean and there are some beautiful gardens with fountains mosaics and peacocks ! Benicassim itselef is fab and has lots of lovely bars and restraunts. I would go again but would make sure apartments were closer to the centre of Marina D'or as we were right on the edge of the complex.

I would not stay here again as you are miles away from festival and it costs 30 euros each way and the service was shocking, especially with the water and toilets !!

I stayed in this hotel specifically for the festival Benicassim. The room itself was clean with a lovely view of the beach from the balcony, the pool that you would assume was yours was in fact a pool which you had to pay 34 euro pr person into for three hours,(which closed from 2 until 4) instead there was a rather disappointing pool around the corner which you could use. There was a pool side bar there which also closed between two and four also. The local shop was dreadful never have I experienced service so slow you could queue 20 mins for a drink, and the restaurants around this area no matter how far you walk can only be described as disgusting. We enjoyed the festival food a lot more than the food around here which says it all. The general service was not good at all around the area and the food was not all that cheap considering.
The beach beside the hotel was clean but as soon as I entered the water I was stung by a jellyfish when I tried to get vinegar from the hotel they were more concerned my boyfriend had no top on then helping me. Only one kind member of staff decided to give it to me. Our air conditioning broke half way through our trip also.
The cleaners knocked on our door four times in one morning even though the do not disturb sign was up, on a plus side upon checking out which is at ten in the morning we did not leave until 12 and they did not say anything.
People we spoke to also told us that they showed up a day earlier than I had arrived and the hotel was closed they had to go searching to find what to do.
The taxis to and from the festival cost us a fortune, there was dodgy taxis about which we got charged 30euro one way. There was a major shortage of official taxis and with that an official one even ripped us off.

I stayed in a two bedroom, two bathroom self catering apartment for Benicassim Music Festival. The apartments were clean and spacious, with a balcony looking over the swimming pool and the beach. It was a great base for both the festival and for a holiday as it had lots of close amenities and was really nice to unwind before going back to the hectic site again. The resort was well maintained with some nice touches such as gardens with a river and Gaudi-style benches. The beach bars and facilities were surprisingly classy for what you would consider a 'package' resort.

We loved the pool, which was a good size, was not busy and was always lovely and warm. The beach was also fantastic and less than 2 minutes away - good clean sand and good to swim in.

So... the reason it is average. I was in two minds whether to give this three or four stars. The apartment didn't quite give me the 'this is fantastic' or the 'this is such good value' feeling but that is just my gut reaction. What swung it for me was that there were no mugs, plates, bowls etc etc provided in the apartment so we had to go and buy plastic ones! The towels and bedding provided were not as adequate as I'd have expected. Also, we had problems with booking - we had booked with other friends using an agent who offered us a good deal but then told us that there were not enough apartments for us all and we would either have to cancel (losing money for flights etc) or pay a huge difference to upgrade to another hotel, which my friends did in the end, sharing the cost. That is not the fault of Marina D'Or, it was the agent but still clouded the holiday.

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view - much more pleasant and you may get a huge balcony.

Key pick-up at centrally located hotel (we arrived in middle of night). Marina D´Or area is extensive and apparetly you can be allocated an apartment anywhere in the resort. Ours was at the northern end, second line (about 300 m from the beach), about ten minutes walk from Marina DÒr centre, and another 20 minutes from Oropesa del Mar. Access to complex was not entirely straightforward as the keys did not fit all gates ad we had to fumbe and search in the dark quite a while before we could let ourselves in. Once there we found a perfectly adequate accomodation with a lovely balcony with a glimpse of sea and lovely mountain views. Kitchen utensils in our apartment were predictably of rather poor quality but most of what one needs was there save for a kettle. This could not be borrowed at reception either. Air-con was there but we preferred not to use it. Probably equipment level generally will vary from apartment to apartment. Note that the daytime "reception" for the apartments is by the waterfront in the centre of Marina D´Or. Out of hours key pick-up and dropp-off were, for some reason, at two different hotels.

Marina D´Or beaches are nice but not endless and broken up here and there by rocks. At the northern end they turn into a bird reservation area with a mostly pebbly wild beach from where you can see Alcossebre in the distance. in the south they lead to Oropesa del mar which is a proper town as opposed to Marina D´Or which is a brand new resort.

Room Tip: If you want beach front location, specifying that you want the "first line" might possibly...

Whilst I can't comment on what this company is like to book through on my experience the apartments are superb. I booked direct with an owner through Ebay not with this company and found the apartment and the resort excellent.

The apartment we had was superb it was an ideal base for the festival as you stay in great apartments with great facilities including a swimming pool and great beach. So if you want a break from the festival it is brilliant. Away from the festival (we stayed after the festival for a further week) the Marina D'Or resort is brilliant it is a place where the Spanish families go for there holidays.

If you want "greasy spoon" restaurants and english pubs then this is not for you. If you want cheap wine, tapa's bars and a great family atmosphere with restaurants, to suit everyones taste then this is the place. There is very long sea front/promenade that goes for about 2 miles into the town of Oropesa which we walked regularly lined with restaurants and shops or you can take the little shuttle train that runs regularly.

The resort has a great beach with a grass area a few yards back if you don't want sand everywhere, lots of gardens and shops, the largest sea water spa in Europe, childrens fair area and a water park a short distance away. There is also a large outdoor show area where there are free shows every night during the main season.

Main season i have been told is from the 2nd week in June to the 1st week in September outside this period it can be a bit quiet but that is the same wherever you go.

Room Tip: All apartments atre similar the only difference is how close to the beach you want to be. 11st line...
