“very good hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 11, 2012

I`ve been here in late november for a Fam tryp and even though it was low season and no proper time for beach activities, I had a great time. The complex really offers a great diversity in activities and for at least a week you cannot get bored. the food and the service in the hotel was also excellent, a truly 4 stars hotel... as I am sure this place is awesome in high season I have already planned my next visit to Marina D`or including longer stay in Barcelona...

Room Tip: higher floor is nicer and the full board is a must, also beverages are included during meals

This is the first visit for us but I'm sure that we come back again! Every thing was perfect in this hotel and it was unforgetable times! Good food and sweeming pools. Only the reception need to learn - it was unpleasant to contact with them.

Room Tip: The rooms are large, very clean and quiet.

I was very concerned for our family vacation at Gran Duque hotel after I've read here many negative comments from the previous years. So I decided to share In fact we spent lovely time there. We are a young family with a baby 1y 3m of age. The room was really nice and big, we have 1 queen size and 1 single bed + a cot for the baby. It was clean and tidy and we had no problems with the bathroom at all, as many people had described before. There was a hydro massage bath. The restaurant was nice, huge, with a great variety of food. There were at least 4-5 kinds of fish dishes daily, 2-3 types of grilled meat, cooked food, paella, many different deserts, fruit, etc. Each time the main courses were different. Twice I saw rabbit meat and few times lamb too. There were bottled drinks, such as beer and wine and draft too. The hotel has 1 big outside pool and 1 roofed with fresh water. There is one with warm water inside, but not big and I did not find it very clean. To use it one needs to buy a hat from the staff which costs 2.5 E. There is a jacuzzi bath too but it is constantly full of people. For those who prefer to go to the beach, it is close to the hotel. The beach is nice and not crowded (at least not in mid September). The water was clean, warm and shallow. Our son loved it! The sand is like powder and it is good idea to put something under your beach towel if you do not have your own lounge. If you wish to rent, the price is 6E/day and it`s for 2 lounges and an umbrella. Bath towels from the hotel are not good for the beach, so you better bring your own! If you wish to rent from the hotel, it costs 2 E/day and you leave also 5 E deposit. My overall impression from the resort is good. Staff is usually very helpful, BUT there were no more than 2 people speaking English, both at the reception!! Too bad! So, if you plan to take a trip to Oropesa, Benicassim or Castellon, you better go first to the tourist info office which is at the end of the beach lane not far from the hotel. The boy there speaks good English and knows enough about the places, especially to show you on the map where you have to get off the bus and where to catch it back from depends on what you want to see. They have free maps for all areas, incl. Valencia. If you don`t take a map and don`t get instructions, bear in mind, that almost nobody speaks English in the town and there are not signs at the bus stops in English! You could stay there forever! If you are not Spanish, don`t forget that they have a siesta every day from 1 pm to 5-6 pm, all shops are closed then, except big shopping malls in the city, And Sunday is a day off for the business, no shops open either. And, at the end, after dinner there is a party outside with either a DJ or a band. It lasts till 12.30- 1 am every night. So even if you stay at the 12th floor, if you are planning to go to bed early, you might not be able to sleep! It is noisy indeed. However all older couples were very happy because of the music - they were all taking lessons in dancing and practicing every night. I have never seen so many happy elder people! And, last but not the least, there is a great "Balneario" center with marine water at the Marina D'or hotel with different treatment and beauty options, all quite expensive, but nice! Hope I've been helpful to all that plan to travel to Marina D'or!!

Very secure- you can enter the hotel and your floor only with a card.
Big and super SPA centre- sometimes too many people.
Amasingly good food for lunch and dinner every day something new!

There are two things we didn't like- no privat beach! There are no wc! No bar on the beach...
And the most unpleasent thing is that all the staff, all information, everything and evrywhere... Only in spanish! You feel it during the evening shows especialy(((

Room Tip: The suite is realy big and has nice view and not expensive

Avoid this hotel at all costs! We went here to celebrate my birthday and had the worst stay I have ever had in a hotel. The welcome was non-existent and we had to queue ages just to check in. Then when we had finally made it to our room on the 11th floor we discovered they had neglected to give us the room key just a load of hotel advertising. The staff thought this was highly amusing when my husband had trudged back down 11 flights of stairs as the lefts were heaving. They laughed at him and said it would keep him fit - not very funny after a 5 hour drive. Then we discovered the air-con wasn't working and although they sent a workman to fix it he left our door open while he roamed the corridor in search of the problem so anyone could have helped themselves to our belongings. Fortunately we happened to return to our room to see this happening. Other problems included: The shower leaked all over the floor every time someone had a shower. The room wasn't sound proofed and the yapping dogs outside kept us awake half the night. In the morning, eager for a quick getaway, we arrived at breakfast 5 minutes early only to be told the restaurant was closed. The staff couldn't understand that we wanted to wait the 5 minutes until it opened and thought we should return to our room!
Altogether a terrible experience in a supposedly 4 star hotel - goodness knows how they got that rating!!! Though you'll probably be fine if you are Spanish. The swimming pools were good for the kids!

Room Tip: Avoid this hotel!

We stayed here during Benicàssim Music Festival - and luckily we had our own car so that we could take us to and from Benicàssim, it was definitely not walking distance. The outrageous price for hotel customers using the perking garage was some 30 euros for 3 nights.

The room was okay, normal hotel standard, up until we noticed that the bathroom floor was flooded due to a leaking shower on the floor above. Not only did we get someone elses dirty shower waste water in our bathroom, but the water was collected in the cieling where elctrical wires ran! Even though we complained (to seemingly non English speaking staff) we were not offered a new room until the last night - I guess we were lucky not to get fried alive. Someone from Maintenance came and mopped the urine stinking water up, and then it was just to wait for the guy above to take a new shower... and then start all over again, arguing with the unfriendly reception staff.

The area was also quite depressing, newly built high rises, sterile and... just sad.

Amazingly poor service. Amazingly poor English spoken. Amazingly nonchalant staff. Next year we will stay somewhere else, for sure.

We stayed here during Benicassim music festival. The rooms were clean and quite new looking. The hotel seemed full but there were hardly any staff working and the queues were horrendous! Every time you went to the reception or bar you waited at least 20 minutes to be served.

The town of Opressa is not great either!
