“Nice hotel in the process of being refurbished by the new owner.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 19, 2014

This nice quiet rather small (25 rooms) hotel is in the process of being refurbished by its new owner: the toilet next to the restaurant has brand new tiles, the new beds and mattresses were just being unloaded when we arrived, the carpet in the room is clean, due to its location in a small street between the old center (oud Amstelveen) and the large new shopping center (Stadshart) - both at less than a mile from the hotel - it is very quiet, with a small stream at the back of the hotel and a small brook running in front of the hotel.
Every time you flip the room's master switch the computer connected to the television will start printing lots of lines on screen before starting the television, disregard.
They have a free parking holding 5 cars and one extra to the right, free Wifi in the lobby and restaurant, wired in room internet cost € 5,- per day.
For those who prefer a walk-in shower instead of a bathtub, room 23 Krokus downstairs near the restaurant has it, also a good (free) Wifi connection.
Breakfast is OK, although sometimes the bread was old and dry, friendly service.
The staff although not so experienced and are still learning the ropes without exception mean well and are very friendly, trying to help and accommodate you whenever they could, the only problem being no receptionist present between 00 hours and 7 hours Monday through Friday, and weekends only starting at 8 hours, so please tell the staff if you plan to be back after midnight, if they can find it they will loan you a spare key. Pushing the bell button or calling the number printed under the bell button will alarm the owner living down the same street, it seems he can unlock the door remotely but prefers not to do it that way. No early breakfast if your plane leaves early, but they'll make a breakfast package for you and leave it outside your door for you to pick up, after you paid for your room the night before leaving.
The menu at the restaurant isn't appetizing, I think you get better food either at the old center or the new shopping mall less than a mile away.

They're willing of offer you a reduced rate if you stay for longer than 3 nights.

At in all quite an OK small cozy hotel, but don't expect the level of the big international chain of hotels, the accommodating friendly staff still needs to improve on their performance.

I came across this place by accident while heading to the airport last week.

We had a great lunch here which was extremely reasonably priced. The landlady was very friendly and helpful.

We sat outside at the tables in the sun.

I was expecting a family hotel and it's been sold like that but it's not what I've been told at all!
The food was ok but the kitchen couldn't cope with a full hotel! The manager smokes inside the hotel so the whole place smells of cigarretes!
The towels are so old and small!
Well hope they can bring it back to what I was told!

My husband and I stayed here for 5 days in late September of 2013 during our visit to see friends in Amstelveen, and experience Amsterdam & Haarlem. The hotel was easy to find with very good proximity to the bus and tram stations, and situated in a peaceful, well-kept neighborhood. Breakfasts were included in the cost, and a highlight; lots of variety for vegetarians and non-vegetarians alike. The dinner menu looked very appetizing, but was lacking in vegetarian options. The hotel rooms were quite small, but well-maintained and kept clean. Our only complaint was that the lighting in the room was too dim; lacked overhead lighting, and the room door did not automatically lock when you closed the door; it had to be secured from the inside lock. Overall, a very nice stay, and would recommend to others looking for a moderate priced hotel. The staff was very friendly and spoke excellent English.

Room Tip: For reading in the evenings, I would recommend using their dining room, which had better lighting th...

Hotel with perfect location for a visit to Amsterdam and Amstelveen.
We stayed for 5 nights at Alp de Veenen in september, for a visit to Amsterdam. The location of the hotel, 5 minutes walk from Amstelveen Busstation, was perfect. With the 300-bus from and to Schipol, for 4 Euro each way. For going in to the city of Amsterdam, there was busses available all day, with max 5 minutes waiting time (Line 170, 172 and 174) Only 4 Euro pr person each way. It took from 20 to 35 minutes, depending on what time of day it was.

The hotel was small, but clean, cosy and comfortable. The staff was very friendly and helpful at all times. The breakfast was every morning a faboulus start of the day. The selection of bread and "spreads" was very good. And with fresh croissants and chocolate-brioche to the coffe, every day was a good day :)
We also tried lunch the last day, and were sorry that we didin't do this earlier. Please try the Bitterballen for lunch or snack!! We also had dinner there one evening, and that was the best dinner for the whole trip!!

The surrondings of the hotel is placed in an area of residents (?), with peace and quite in the evenings. The garden of Alp de Veenen is small, but a nice place to have your morning coffe, or just a glas of wine, for relaxing after a long day in museums, art gallerys and pancakehouses.

If you continue to the end of the street (ask in the reception) there is an amazing chineese restaurant, with superb food and service. The kitchen of Alp de Veenen is closed in weekends, so they guided us to the best restaurants in Amstelveen. Try the Chineese!!

We also found the shopping Mall of Amstelveen, behind the bus station. Many nice cafes and restaurants, and a wide variety of shops. If you can't find it here, you don't need it....

Next time we are going to Amsterdam, we will stay at Alp de Veenen - our best recommandations to this pearl.

Nice cosy room. Friendly helpful staff. Great service at breakfast. You can have fried egg and bacon if you want. Although two flights of stairs to climb. Unusual for a continental hotel. 500m walk from Amstelveen bus station: Be careful where you cross the road, I got told off by a motorcycle policeman for trying to cross against the lights. I stayed there for the cricket at the nearby sports area. Most enjoyable stay, but next time I'll ask for a ground floor room.

I should point out that it is now called Alp de Veenen.
