“Very good hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2013

Stayed here with a large group on a recent congress. The staff really do make this place. It is a bit out the back and beyond but compared to staying in the centre the rooms are huge! Separate toilet, shower, bath, etc. cleaned well on a daily basis without fail. The restaurant only serves breakfast but next door is a lovely restaurant, tennis club and bowling alley. Good transport links. Breakfast had many options.. Not so sure myself on the pre prepared omelettes but they will do fresh food if you ask.

Good business hotel that is very convenient to the nearby business locations. The staff is a real delight and more then made up for the well worn room. Great service all around.

Many excellent food options nearby, including a short walk into a quaint city center. Would recommend avoiding the famous Aan De Poel and they are very rude.

My wife and I stayed at this hotel as part of our Cosmos tour. It looks a little dated from the outside of the building but it looks nice inside. The location is a little way from downtown Amsterdam but it is manageable. The room was nice and big which we both enjoyed. The breakfast was great as well as the service.

A squared block from the outside, squared personnel inside. To no surprise since this is quite common in this country.Good beds, good rooms, often too hot in winter, correct breakfast, limited choice on dinner. Everything essential for a business hotel. What else can you expect in the middle of an industrial area. At lest the bus to downtown Amsterdam has a stop just across the street.

Stayed in a tripple room for one night. Bus service into Amsterdam city takes a while but runs often. Room towards the street makes it hard to sleep with open window (car noise the whole night). Breakfast just medium. A bit more selection of everything would help. But all in all a good stay.

I stayed at the Grand for a business trip and while it is located quite a way from Amsterdam it was functional and clean. Close to Schipol I decided to take the bus to the hotel. This was a 35 minute trip but the bus stop is right out the front of the Hotel. This is the same route that will take you straight into Amsterdam about 40 minutes trip. So it's very convenient if you don't want to spend your time in cabs.
The hotel itself while dated (think circa 1979), is clean and the staff very friendly. The restaurant is around the corner from the Hotel so it can be a dash if raining but the food was great and once again the service staff very good. One of the advantages in staying in a family owned hotel is that they will pay more attention to their guests. The rooms are simple but large, clean and comfortable and it certainly passed my litmus test for hot water and water pressure. Breakfast is a no frills affair with a choice of cereal, fruit, breads and cheese (of course it is Holland after-all). While not a hotel I would stay in if I needed to be closer to Amsterdam (our office is a quick walk away hence the stay there) I would thoroughly recommend it for those who want to be a bit out of the city and are not fussed about the luxury Hotel experience. Overall I enjoyed the 3 nights I stayed there but I 3 nights was enough.
Reasonably priced, and with the bus so close by there are no impediments to getting into the city. A friendly staff and atmosphere the Grand Hotel Amstelveen should at least be considered.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 30, 2013

We had a very pleasant stay in this hotel that we used as a base for visiting Amsterdam. We wanted to be away from the very busy and outrageously expensive hotels of the city center. We opted for this hotel that very well deserves its 4 stars. The rooms are very large with possibility to get ones that are connected. The bedding was outstanding with very good quality linen. The rooms are very well equipped with large flat screens, safe and mini bar where you can cool down drinks. The rooms were very clean and with very nice decoration. Soundproofing may be improved in connected rooms but this is not a major issue. The breakfast offering is very good with a choice of cold and hot dishes. There is also a nice offering of different bread and viennoiseries.
The hotel offers very good, complete and new installations such as well equipped fitness room. The close area of the hotel allows you to have lunch in a very good restaurant (in addition to the restaurant and the bar within the hotel) + to play a bowling (with eating and drinking offering) without moving your car from the parking area. All are under the same management umbrella and hence all booking can be done via the hotel’s reception desk. There is a vending machine with a large offer of soft and alcoholic drinks if the bar is closed. There is also a free distribution of cold water and ice.
The personnel is really helpful and can advise in a lot of domains such as tourism, cycling routes, public transpiration offer and prices … The hotel front may be surprising at very first view … but once inside the hotel and welcomed by the reception desk people, you’ll have no more doubts that you are in a 4 stars hotel.
Only disappointment was that the wifi requires an extra cost that despite the low amount (5 Euros) should be free in a hotel of this level. However, the Wifi is available at the salon next to the reception desk.
Of course, you need ton consider that the hotel is at +/- 30 to 40 minutes distance from Amsterdam center when using the public transport. However this is still competitive when knowing the price for parking in this beautiful city and taking the traffic into consideration. We will use this hotel again without any doubt.

Room Tip: Just consider the distance if you intend to staty for a visit to Amsterdam. Still worth it consider...
