My wife and I traveled to southern France this past August (2012). This was a wonderful treat to stay at this castle. Our room was wonderful and the entire stay in the historic castle was like going back in time.

We elected to have dinner at the castle which is a separate charge, but it was well worth every penny.

The host were delightful, but did have some problems with English. Husband did better than spouse.

Myself and my girlfriend stayed here for one night while driving back to England and it was beautiful. The castle it self is stunning and the owners are extremely friendly. The room was beautiful, lovely and spacious with a beautiful sunrise coming through the window in the morning. The bathroom as well was great with a lovely stand alone bath... A 2 min walk away is also a lovely restaurant if the hotels dinner isn't available.

Room Tip: Elise, its beautiful with a lovely sunny morning and deadly silent which is heavenly.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 10, 2012

Spent one night here. We had an aperitif with the chateau owners and the other b&b guests, which wasn't very interesting as they don't seem to speak much English so most of the conversation was in french. Then dinner (4 courses I believe) with the other guests in the medieval kitchen, which was very interesting and delicious but I guess it depends on the other guests of the b&b so the dinner can go both ways. in our case it was lovely.

Our room was really nice and it was actually a set of 3 rooms.
Stay included breakfast and a chateau tour. The chateau is beautiful and charming indeed but overall I feel the b&b is a bit expensive for what you get. and it will be much more interesting if you speak french..

Spent one night here and thoroughly enjoyed it. We had an aperitif (pre-dinner drink) with the chateau owners, which was very interesting (although they don't seem to speak much English). Then dinner (4 courses I believe) with the other guests in the midieval kitchen, which was very interesting and delicious. My room (Elisa) was one of the prettiest chateau hotel rooms I've ever stayed in, and it was very spacious. The bathroom is also huge, with a beautiful tub and a separate shower (and two sinks). I saw one other room and it was just as large.
Stay included a light breakfast (few breads and yogurt) and a chateau tour. The chateau is beautiful and charming, and I would definitely recommend a visit and a stay here.

We enjoy visiting palaces, castles and such historic buildings to experience how the life was in the past. Most of the time we are just visitors, after spending a few hours we leave. Chateaux de Barben gave us the chance to deepen the experience by opening their doors for overnight guests. There are a few rooms available, we had the chance to see two of these and both were fantastic. Big rooms decorated with antiques, very clean, high ceilings, spacious bathrooms, views overlooking the green surroundings of the castle, it is a magical and relaxing place. Both in the room and walking around the castle one can feel like as if traveled in time and now living in a fairy tale. We enjoyed our stay very much and wished could have stayed longer. We arrived at the chateaux with our car, parked at the bottom of the last ramp. From here there is a short climb to the main gate and up the stairs. It is advisable not to bring heavy suitcases as several flights of stairs with heavy bags would not be easy. Once you check in you can walk around the castle or just relax in your room or at the cafe in front of the boutique. Meeting for dinner is at 7.30 in the main terrace with the hosts. It is nice to enjoy sunset here with a few drinks and appetizers and have a pleasant conversation. Dinners and breakfasts are served in the kitchen among the many interesting displays of kitchen utensils of the old times. It is a very pleasant place to eat.
