We found this hotel on the Giverny web site, and it turned out to be an excellent choice. It is outside Gaillon, which is a small town very near to Verdon, where Giverny is. It has a nice restaurant, small bar, and a great breakfast. All the staff were absolutely wonderful. Our room was very spacious and comfortable. For the price (225 euros for an upgraded room), it was one of the better values of our trip.

Quiet, comfortable but bar closed in the evening!

Lovely quiet hotel, great exterior views, comfortable room and a very pleasant restaurant with good food. Only problem however is that the bar was closed in the evening when we returned from the restaurant - at 10.00pm. On enquiring we were told the bar is closed every evening. As the hotel is in a tiny village there is no bar nearby - it was suggested we drive to Vernon, 10/15 mins away. Not really what you want after a nice meal in the hotel.

The restaurant is also apparently closed every Sunday and Monday evening, so you would need to bring your own sandwiches as well as something to drink in the evening, if staying on those days.

If you want a very quiet location with a nice room then the hotel is great. If you need any other facilities then look elsewhere.

  • Liked — Quiet location, good clean comfortable rooms
  • Disliked — No facilities in the evening other than restaurant (not open Sunday/Monday)

A welcome surprise in Normandy

A very pleasant introduction to Normandy after a long flight and drive from De Gaulle. The Chateau has been recently updated and our room was nicely decorated, with a comfortable king size bed, flat screen TV and a modern fitted bath (Shower and bath). The entire facility was very clean, the staff courteous, and the lovely grounds well maintained. We spent a very restfull night. The petit dejeuner had an ample selection of the usual items with the fresh croissants particularly outstanding. We couldn't find anything to fault with the Chateau Corneille and couldn't ask for anything more particularly at the price!

Was very surprised to find the hotel Reception closed at 7:00PM. If this was not bad enough, the closure also blocked all access to the hotel bar and lounge. For 100 Euro per night this is unacceptable - if I wanted a no service hotel, I could have used one of the many chain hotels down the road at half the price.

Restaurant was OK apart from the temperature. It really is not good enough to have people eating in overcoats to combat the temperature.

Will not be using this hotel again.

  • Liked — Exterior of building and grounds
  • Disliked — Lack of reception facilities and off-hand attitude of staff

We stayed one night at the Chateau in July as a treat being the last night of our trip in Normandy. Actually it was probably the best value of all the hotels we stayed in. The owner was very friendly and accommodating even offering us breakfast late if we wanted to. (we did)
Even though the chateau was old it was obviously recently renovated and the rooms was quite modern and comfortable.
The hotel had a restaurant in a building close by and it served excellent food.
We travelled from nearby Giverny where Monet's home and garden are situated, I can't remember how far it was but it didn't take too long to drive. The chateau is some distance from any town and off the main road but this didn't worry us at all. It was great to spend a night in the country and the room had a lovely view over the surround countryside. I kept wondering why there weren’t more people staying there as it was the middle of the season.
Should have stayed longer....!
