Went to Zao to ski with a friend for 4 nights and loved it! It was a truly unique experience. I certainly imagine it's not the most challenging mountain to ski (I assume there are better places to ski further North) but its fine for the intermediate level or advanced intermediate. We went to Zao for the snow monsters and they didn't dissappoint. They were amazing and actually not over hyped. Really beautiful place to ski and spend time.
The best places to ski for me, were below the snow monster level though. At the top where the monsters are most prevalent there are too many beginners all zig zagging the runs trying to see the monsters and not fall. It was a minefield. The other areas were pretty quiet and empty and nice long runs. If the weather is amazing, most people go and see the monsters so you can have some runs to yourself.
I also highly recommend you see the monsters on foot during the day and night. Or at least take your skis off and have a wander around. Its a great place at night too. Just take the ropeway up and go upstairs to the lookout.
I stayed at Lodge scole and loved it. I would highly recommend staying here if you visit Zao. see my review and heres the website http://lodgescole.com/indexe.html
I would recommend this place to anyone from beginner to advanced intermediate (maybe even advanced?). It's simply an amazing place to ski due to the snow monsters. I would ski here again for sure!
