As someone who has never eaten deer before, I was a little nervous about how the food would taste. No worries on that front however, as the meat was tender and delicious, presented first as 3 little nibbles within a tray of 9 appetisers, and then as larger portion for the main.
The restaurant itself is built into a quiet backstreet in Kaibara, in an old, beautifully kept Japanese house. We had a view out onto a tangled Japanese garden, and were served by friendly and professional staff.
For a taste of something different while travelling, or even if you've eaten deer before, Mujika is definitely worth a visit.
