“food not edible”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed July 8, 2013

my wife and i visited the dukes head for a friends 50th birthday this was our second visit the first time the food was not too good so as it was a friends birthday we gave it a second chance i had the asparagus for starters it looked burnt and tasted disgusting my wife had soup that was cold.next course i had fish looked good but it was like mush my wife had the gammon it had more fatty lumps in it than meat she was then 20 minuts in the toilet giving it back i saw other people we were with having steak and leaving half of it as it was so bad when someone asked for a steak knife to the steak they just placed in front of them it took 5 mins to get the knife and they were still drying them as they came out.i complained about our meal the staff were not too sure what to charge me for and what was wrong with certain bits of the meal i flattly refused to pay for the food and was not going to argue over it and we left.on the plus side decor around the bar is nice

“very nice evening”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 1, 2013

Came across this restaurant by accident as we were lost?, Went back the next evening (a Saterday night), around 7.30, waiter said they could fit us in and to have a drink at the bar whilst we wait,. the restaurnat started to get very busy but we did not mind as the bar area was very nice, we were seated at around 8.30, food was immpeccable, I had Seabass and my husband opted for the steak which was cooked to perfection, did not have desserts but they looked just as nice, finished off with Brandies, and were very happy when we got the bill, would def recommend to anyone, they also have a huge outdoor terrace which I am sure would be lovley in the summer months (if we get any!)

“Really great evening”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 1, 2013

We went with some friends on Saturday night - it was our second visit and we had a really great evening.
The staff and manager were really friendly and helpful and the service was excellent. The food was delicious - we all had Seafood Thermidor which was heaven, great desserts and good wine. The atmosphere was relaxed and overall a really enjoyable experience - we will definitely be going back on a regular basis.

“A gastro pub in all but name”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 1, 2013

Lovely location in village near Billericay.
Definitely restaurant inclined and can cope with large numbers but tables well spaced out.Consderable care has been given to layout and decor and very popular. Also outdoor dining possible in a couple of areas. Popular with families.
We booked, just as well.
Staff friendly, helpful and informed. All food cooked well and nicely presented. The linguine with prawns was spot on, as also the chicken and fish. Chips were French style and very moreish !
The desserts were equally impressive with a Wimbledon inspired dish looking and tasting great. Chocolate, caramel concoction also rapidly disappeared.
Very relaxed and comfortable experience despite being Sunday lunchtime.
