“Great view of Georgian Bay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 8, 2013

We hiked up the mountain, stopping at various caves and crevises along the way. The caves were a little underwelming but still cool. The view from the top of the mountain is awesome!! You can see the whole bay and Collingwood. Then we did the twin zipline down the mountain (my first zipline ever), which is cool because two people go at once and you can control your speed. This was a thrill but was over too fast. Then we walked to the suspension bridge which was ok but not as good as a view as on the mountain. We took a tractor ride back to the main park, and looked around at the wood carvings and pond. Great afternoon stop, do it once if you're in the area.

We’re so pleased that your thrilling first zipline experience was at Scenic Caves. The Thunderbird Twin Zip Line is the longest in Canada, and although it is 2550 feet long, it does go by quickly, doesn’t it? Because of our location at the highest point of the Niagara Escarpment, the scenery from both the top of the mountain and the Suspension Bridge allow visitors to view 10,000 square kilometers of countryside. On a clear day you can see Christian Island, Midland, and follow the 14 km shoreline of Wasaga Beach (it’s the longest, unbroken freshwater beach in the world), all the way around to Collingwood. Thank you for commenting on the ‘awesome’ views.

“Fun family outing”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 8, 2013

An active outing for families - wear running shoes/sneakers and be prepared to do a lot of climbing/walking but well worth the view.

“Outdoor fun”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 7, 2013

Went to the Scenic Caves on Aug 4/13. Arrived at 11:15am. Parking lot was already very full when we arrived. Entrance lineup was long. Only 2 booths. Should have an extra booth to lesson the wait and so that customers don’t need to stand out in the middle of the busy parking lot.

Hike to the Thunderbird twin zip line is fairly strenuous….the path consists of some uneven, uphill terrain and I would not recommend this for:

• someone who has difficulty walking
• anyone walking with a stroller
• small children not used to a lot of walking

We were recommended to purchase our zip line tickets at the zip line because the price is the same if purchased at the front gate and some people have backed out of it once they see it in person. We actually saw one person dressed in all the zip line gear return and refuse to go. Apparently, this happens once or twice per day.

The wait time to enter the zipline area was minimal. We entered, signed the waivers, got fitted for our gear and helmet and then we waited to go on a trial run where they showed us how to go faster, slow down and stop.

Next, we walked up the 50 foot spiral tower to start the ride. You need to carry your zip line gear in a backpack up with you. At the top, participants can go 2 by 2, every 3 minutes or so.
All equipment seemed in great condition and clean. All staff were excellent….friendly, happy and helpful.

When we finished the ride, we then got off at the end of the zip line tower and walked for a while to get to the Suspension Bridge. It is about 2 people wide and very new feeling and safe. It swayed a slight bit but would be easy for almost anyone to cross over. Walking on the bridge offered a beautiful view of the countryside and Georgian Bay. The water was a gorgeous blue and could easily be mistaken for the Caribbean.

At the end of the bridge, they have a small snack bar. You have the option of waiting for a tractor ride back to the front gate or walking. The tractor ride does not hold many people so instead of waiting the 20 minutes for another tractor to come, we decided to walk back. It is an uphill walk back to the front gate so wait for the tractor if it’s hot outside or if you are tired.

They have a cute free train ride but there are only 5 sections to sit and only 1 group would sit in each section which holds about a max. of 4 people. So the wait can be long.

The children’s playground is nice. Lots of things to climb on, balance on, swing on. A good way for them to burn off some last minute energy.

Food available for purchase. Wait times are very long (15 minutes and more) and food selection is very limited.

Only 2 stalls in the women’s washroom in the gift shop so the wait is very long. Consider going beforehand in town. Of course, the men’s washroom wait is non-existent.

Other recommendations: bring a picnic or eat in Collingwood. Definitely, arrive early.

A fun day had by adults and kids!

Thank you for your detailed comments. Located at the highest point of the Niagara escarpment, the trail through the caves/caverns is maintained and well-marked. It follows the rugged terrain of ridges, valleys, jagged rocks and forest. There are sturdy steel stairs leading down into the crevasses. That’s why comfortable hiking/running shoes are required. The Thunderbird Twin Zip Line is definitely an adrenaline pumping adventure. The mini pre-zip line ‘training’ experience helps comfort anyone nervous about riding. For lighter adventurers, the Suspension Bridge is very secure, even for those tentative about heights. The tractor ride and Rocky the train are always crowd pleasers.

Thank you for recommending locals and tourists of all ages put Scenic Caves on their “must do” list. You have identified two of the most popular caves. Even in the summer, the natural refrigerator cave’s temperature remains at about 4 degrees C. The First Nations’ Petun tribe used it for food storage. Squeezing through “Fat Man’s Misery” is challenging because the narrowest spot is 36 centimeters. But you can always take the trail and stairs around it.

“Parking”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 5, 2013

Visited on Aug 4, 2013 -- the park was fun, mini golf was good. All was good till the time we came back around 4.30 PM to the car and noticed that OPP has ticketed all the cars for parking violations which were parked on the side of the roads. OPP must have ticketed 50-70 cars. In the monring when we reached the park, the tiny parking lot was full. It was long week end hence many many visitors. Weather was good. A gentleman who was directing traffic right outside the parking lot told us to try accross the bend since the cars were already many cars were parked on both sides of the road right inforn of the park. And we went accross the bend hardly 30-40 metres and saw many cars already parked. But I guess parking on the road -- both sides - is illegal. No parking.

That is OK. But strongly encourage all visitors that not to park on the side of the road. If there is no spot in the parking lot then it is better to skip the park entry all together.

Your comments and suggestions regarding parking are excellent. Parking is free at Scenic Caves. Onsite there is a main parking lot with overflow onto the grounds. The second parking lot is a short walk away, and there is a third parking lot even further up the hill. Visitors are urged to observe the ‘no parking’ signs posted on both sides of the road. During exceptionally busy weekends, we post a staff member in the parking lot area to direct guests.
