The Lookout hotel has the best sunsets! There is a lookout tower where you can sit relax and watch the sun set. Beautiful horizon. The rooms are very clean, quaint and well maintained. (If you go in the summer time, it may be too warm since there is no air conditioning.) The daily breakfasts are wonderful - healthy and fresh. Awesome coffee. The bardenter makes wonderful margaritas. Hotel is located close to fabulous restaurants.
The managers are a wonderful couple and always willing to go over and beyond.

If you book a hotel here, since it is not on the beach, rent a car. It also helps when you need to go out to eat. If you book any excursions, you don't need a car that day as they will pick you up and drop you off at the front door.

We stayed at The Lookout for 3 nights in November on a birdwathcing and beach expedition for my wife's birthday. Steve and Carol the owners welcomed us with open arms, treated us just like family, and shared all of their secret spots in the area with us.The location of The Lookout couldn't be better and does justice to its name. From our porch or anywhere on the property we had breathtaking views of Playa Tortuga and the Pacific. The peace and tranquility of the hotel just added to our overall experience. We can't wait to go back!! Hats off to Steve and Carol for a memorable experince and the most relaxing vacation we've had in years.

We are building a house near Ojochal, and stayed at the Lookout for about 5 nights while we were meeting with designers, etc. The location is perfect - right on the highway near the entrance to the town and very close to several beautiful, quiet beaches. The drive up is typical Costa Rica - 4 wheel drive is recommended! We've stayed in many places across CR and have never been at one with a better ocean view - even from our bed in the morning! I'm not a bird watcher, but I couldn't help noticing the toucans and scarlet macaws while eating breakfast. Steve and Carol, the owners, were looking after the place while the managers were away. They were wonderful - very friendly and good company. They went out of their way to make us feel welcome. At the end of our days we felt like we were coming home to family. The restaurant was not open while we were there, but I understood that was temporary pending the managers return and more staff to be hired. Luckily there are many nice European as well as Tico restaurants nearby - so we didn't suffer! Carol was quick to offer to make reservations for us and even ordered take-out to be delivered one rainy night when no one felt like going out. We look forward to our next visit.

The Lookout is well-named; the incredible views were the highlight of our November visit. Gorgeous sunsets over the ocean and jungle canopy. Personable hosts/owners Steve and Carol were charming and gracious. Conversation about books and travel and their help with local day trips set them apart from other places we stayed in Costa Rica. Rooms were clean, comfortable and colorful; fresh flowers and candles a welcoming touch. Only (minor) complaint was no service (dry towels) which we chalked up to an off-season glitch.
