“Very Hospitable”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 29, 2013

The first thing to say about staying at the Old Mill is that Helen, the landlady, is a lovely host and made us feel very welcome. She was very helpful when we asked her to recommend a nearby restaurant and we had a a great meal at the Black Bull opposite. We had a twin room in the attic space and it was clean and tidy. Being over 6 feet tall, I struggled with the height of the ceiling, particularly in the en suite where the roof sloped over the loo bowl. The beds were comfortable and the room warm enough after the heating came on.
Breakfast was served quickly and was very good. The room rate was very reasonable and represented excellent value for money. Will definitely use the Old Mill again if we stay in Cumbernauld.

I recently stayed here and it was excellent. I got off to a bad start as my flight was delayed by over 2 hours so instead of arriving at 22:00 as booked I did not turn up until nearly 1 am. However the owner Helen had waited up for me. The room was lovely and breakfast next morning was served by the ever friendly host who bore no grudge for her lack of sleep.
It's set in a rather quaint old part of Cumbernauld convenient to a few local pubs and restaurants all withing a few minutes. Well done.

Rooms are spotlessly clean , nicely decorated, cosy and comfortable. My little girl and I shared a twin had a great sleep. Helens help and advise meant we visited the Black Bull opposite for a lovely meal. Breakfast delicious ! The price so reasonable , I would definitely stay again .

If you have done the very popular Hadrian's Wall, try this one, for a less-travelled, but equally fascinating glimpse of the Roman's time in Britain.
We chose to stay in the old village of Cumbernauld, as it has good bus connections with various stages of the Antonine Wall, and this trip we didn't have a car. Helen Main's B and B, the Old Mill, is by far the best place to stay in the village. Her warm welcome, even though we arrived much later than we had planned (although I did phone ahead) made us feel at home immediately. She advised us on a good restaurant, Puccini's, behind the Black Bull Pub, just across the road, and the owner found us a table, on a full and lively Saturday night!
The room was large, with a lounge, and very comfortable. Helen's breakfasts were enough to last all day, and were served at a communal table, so we chatted to the other guests every morning, which was a nice start to the day.
Helen's advice on trains, buses, and places to visit proved invaluable, and we spent four days exploring the wall, Falkirk, and Glasgow, all easily accessible by bus.

I arrived on foot and luckily discovered the access via an alley from Main Street, Cumbernauld Village. Have to go up stairs to the front door. Remember to say how you want your eggs when you check in. Default is fried for the full breakfast. You can also order porridge. Only soap provided for the shower. Breakfast was served very promptly.

Excellent service, and the rooms was bright, clean and nice! The hostess was very service-minded and nice. The breakfast was very good too. All in all, we were very pleased with our stay at the Old Mill B&B! If we ever go back to that area we would definately stay there again! And we recommend it to others planning a visit to Scotland, if they are interested in both Glasgow and Edinburgh.
