“Wonderful Stay at the Hotel Hornberg”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 4, 2011

This gem of a hotel has it all-a very friendly and welcoming atmosphere from the moment a guest enters the front door to check-in, extremely comfortable, clean and bright bedrooms with modern, spotless bathrooms, spectacular views of the surrounding meadows and mountains, delicious dinners with top-notch service and a food presentation worthy of a highly-rated restaurant, an ideal breakfast buffet with many options for all tastes, a gemutlich bar with a fire in the fireplace as well as a wide range of available activities for all ages and interests. Christian and Brigette Hoefliger, who run this fine hotel, do not miss a trick for making a guest's stay as pleasant and memorable as possible. Their hands are everywhere in the operation of the hotel, and no detail or matter, however small, escapes their immediate attention. For travelers with children, this is a perfect spot since the hotel is very family friendly, and it even includes a well-stocked playroom for younger children. Imagine what you've liked about a particular hotel where you've previously stayed, and I'm quite sure you'll find it at the Hotel Hornberg as well. Before we had to leave the hotel, we were trying to figure out when we could return for another visit.

We were made to feel at home from the minute we stepped in until we left. The hotel's attention to detail was faultless. All staff were friendly and attentive but not fussy and the atmosphere was relaxed. Wonderful!

Stayed with my wife and three children.Rooms are homely and clean.
Food is very good in a true Swiss tradition. We took the half pension which included a four course dinner, plus cheese and an open salad bar.A hearty breakfast was also included. We did not try all the hotel facilites, outside pond, inside pool and spa,but they looked great. The price was very reasonable considering you are in the Gstaad region.
It is nice to see that in a region where money talks this hotel welcomes everyone and treats all it's guests equally well.A great stay.

Hotel is located a few KM from Gstaad but yest close enough, 5mn by car and about 2 hours from Zurich Airport . Easy access.
As soon as we arrived we were greeted immediately and felt like home. We received a very nice room. It was extremely comfy for a family of 4, with a separate bedroom for the kids. We had a very cute balcony with view on the Alps. Our kids enjoy the playground, and the little farm goat, as well as the play room. The pool was delicious and classy. The Service was impeccable, and the food top notch (Did I mention fabulous cheese !!!). Very nice Garden, Terrace. Lots of candles at night. If you like the "Swiss atmosphere" of being in a homey chalet in the mountain, simple decor but yet elegant - with great food - Hornberg is for you.
Overall would highly recommend this hotel.

The Chalet Hotel Hornberg is an absolute gem--a relaxing getaway in the Bernese Alps with impeccable service and extraordinarily kind staff at every turn. We used the hotel as a base for hikes (the owner Christian Hoefliger speaks excellent English and advised us on some of the most scenic routes), but loved it so much it was hard to tear ourselves away each morning. Every space (bar, dining room, guest rooms) is clean and bright, and the cuisine is superb. When making a reservation, opt for one of the rooms with a balcony on an upper floor. And don't miss the new indoor swimming pool--a glittering, stainless steel surprise with doors that slide open to a terrace.

Our friends have been going to the Hotel Hornberg for a while and we joined them in early March.
The whole hotel experience was simply the best. The attention to detail, attitude and 'can do' approach by the staff and owners was the best I have ever known.
The half board choice produced excellent food served in a friendly and willing manner.
The hotel is a few metres from the ski slopes and has equipment storage facilities.
We are going there in June to see the area in the summer and play golf on the nearby course.

We stumbled across this hotel in the town of Saanenmoeser only because the hotel we had planned to stay in the next town (Schonried) was closed. What a wonderful discovery. While this hotel does not have exactly the same dramatic view of the stunning range you can see from Schonried, it still has a great setting. And if you walk for about 10 minutes, you can get to the same view in Schonried. If you do not know the area, these towns are near Gstaad, but higher in altitude.

The hotel itself is very well maintained, clean as usually found in Switzerland, with many deluxe touches. The beds are wonderfully comfortable.

The entire structure is characteristic of the region - a large chalet look, with porches overlooking manicured gardens, with mountains in the background. In late June, the flowers are in bloom everywhere. They have a small indoor lap pool. They offer free wifi access in the lobby area (which I am using to write this). The hotel is on a side street from the main drag going through town - so it is very quiet. A small train line runs nearby - but electric and barely noticeable.

Service and hospitality of the staff is outstanding. This is a well run, tasteful operation run by the family that owns it.

They offer two options: half board or normal room with breakfast. The half board includes dinner from a fixed menu, with either meat or vegetarian categories. If you factor in the cost of going out, the cost of the included dinner is very reasonable. The kitchen is very good - perhaps a shade under outstanding. The dinner included with the half board option was too much food, unless you are a teenager. They had a very good salad bar. The included breakfast was also excellent.

At current conversion rates, the cost of one of their smaller rooms on the half board plan was about $275/night. That might seem expensive, but if you consider that it includes a wonderful dinner and breakfast, it is quite reasonable. Highly recommended for anyone who wants a relaxing, very comfortable get away.
