“Skiing skiing and more skiing”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 6, 2009

The first thing that struk me about this 'Pension' was the fact that Mike (the owner) would give me a lift every day to wherever I wanted to go for nothing... I did offer but to his credit he simply refused! This was massively helpful as we could check out three seperate ski resort which were fairly far apart from each other.

The faculities here were relatively basic, TV, bed, breakfast etc. Although there was an unrealistically big plasma TV in the main bar room. My kids loved playing on the Playstation there!

The atmosphere was very friendly and for the price we got a real bargain. We also found great English speaking skiing tuition for our children from this place. On the flipside i would say that the community showers were slightly inconvinaint, it's not the Ritz but for the price i suppose it is fair.

Had a great time here, see you next year Mike!

Hospitable pickup from the train station by the inn owner, but cleanliness not up to snuff (no sheets on beds in tatami rooms, dirty blankets for covers, a few too many bugs). Website makes everything look bright and clean and well-tended, but the reality didn't match up. You will do better 50 yards up the road at Hotel Ruhe for half the price, and true Japanese hospitality and uber-cleanliness (plus onsen baths).

This was great, as the nightlife in the Akakura isn't well known. At night the bar (massive) was quite busy with boarders and skiiers from all over the world and just as many beers from just as many countries.
As close as you can get to a B&B in Japan that I've found, but still a bit Japanese in the architecture. The pub is not a pub in that you've got to wear slippers, but I sort of liked it as it was somewhat relaxing. Huge widescreen in the bar area, but no tvs in the rooms. Baths were shared, but I'd choose it over any of the hotels, and God! the breakfasts were huge and delicious. A whole table just for jams:)

The Hawke and Hare Inn is a comfortable and clean B & B close to Myoko Akakura ski resort. The friendly couple running the B&B speak fluent English and Japanese which is great for foreigners visiting Japan. They serve a very generous breakfast and very tasty home cooked western food. Very laid back and casual atmosphere with a big LCD screen and xbox 360. There is also a good looking hawke onsite as the name suggests which provides unique entertainment. They offered to drive us to the local ski resorts, town and to the train station which was very convenient. The couple also took us to a Ninja lesson which wasn't on our intinary which was great fun. This place is great entertainment and value for money. Definitely recommend the Hawke and Hare Inn if you are skiing the Myoko area.
