“Take off your shoes, prepare to relax and be treated as a VIP!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 1, 2011

You are greeted by a line of women dressed in kimono, taken to your room by one and fitted out with a Yukata that you can wear throughout your stay. The lady that takes you to your room becomes your room attendant and is the one that fits you with your Yukata and shows you how to wear it. She also serves you tea and a sweet. Your room is like a small apartment where the floors are tatami mats throughout. The living room has a low table where you sit on cushions. There is a separate dining area if you choose to dine in your room where you sit on the floor with your legs in a lower separate section. You can choose to sleep in a western style bed or on a traditional futon. The shower has a deep tub and a shower area that is Japanese style.

A visit to the Onsen, a separate floor separate for ladies and gents, is a must...no swim suits here....you must shower before getting in the onsen and you can do so either Japanese style or Western.

Some may get the feel that this experience might be reminiscent of Las Vegas without the gambling. There are 2 complimentary shows in the evening that change from time to time. While we were there we had a drumming show and a performance by a guitar player and singer grom Paraguay. Each of these shows is only 15 minutes, but well worth it.

An evening meal and breakfast was included for our group so I can't comment on cost of either meal. I can say that both meals were outstanding and were served by women dressed in kimono.

On departure your room attendant comes to your room and helps with your luggage.

A really great experience! Our room was 1117 that had a view of mountains and looked out over the sea.

Went their on company trip. Arrived by bus and greeted by traditionally dressed hotel staff. The service was impeccable and the onsen spectacular. What a great experience and oh yea the view was awesome.

Stayed there a few years ago, and although for only one night, the experience was unforgettable. Our family joined a tour group to Japan, and Kagaya is one of the hotels we stayed. The moment we arrived(we arrived on a bus), all the employees of the hotel lined up at the front to make us feel like mega VIP. The lobby is grand with Japanese style architechture and decorations. Lady in kimono played traditional string instruments that instantantly immersed us in the ambience of the culture. After checking-in, they escorted us to the Japanese styled rooms(with tatami, not mattresses), and performed traditional tea ceremony to serve us macha(strong green tea). The tea was slightly bitter, but otherwise delicious. The view from the room looking into Sea of Japan with the sunset is astonishing. This hotel is famous for their onsen(hot spring), so it was recommended that we take a dip in the hotel's big bath house(don't forget to shower before you hop in). The bath house also has great view of the Sea of Japan. After shower/bath, dinner was served. The food was excellent(if you're into Japanese cuisine, as there were plenty of sashimi and other seafood), and generously portioned. Entertainment after meal included people showing and involving us in traditional Japanese dance, and a musical performance in the hotel's theater. Upon returning to the room after a fun and interesting night, we find the beddings perfectly set up and aligned in the center(thick, plushs futons with comforters), along with the soak in the hot springs which promotes blood circulation, we quickly fall asleep into the night. Next morning, after breakfast, it was hard to say goodbye to the kind staffs, whom, somehow feeled like our friends.
