“Nice hotel, friendly staff”

Premier Inn Manchester Old Trafford

I stayed at the Golden Tulip for two nights in April 07, whilst attending a conference at Old Trafford. Obviously, the best thing is the close proximity to the ground, literally a stone's throw. We had a twin room on the 6th floor, with a great view of Old Trafford. When booking ask for a room with a view of the stadium or the canal, as some rooms have a poor view over the industrial estate behind the hotel! I assume the hotel has recently been refurbished, as there was a definite smell of "newness" in the corridors!!! The room was a good size, perfectly adequate for two or three nights, was very clean and everything in good condition. The beds were a little on the soft side for me, but this is a personal preference.

I must say that all of the staff we came into contact with were extremely friendly and very helpful, from reception to bar staff. We did not have any evening meals at the hotel, but we did have breakfast both mornings. This was of the buffet variety and was of good quality and varied.

I would recommend the Golden Tulip, but be aware that it is not in the city centre - taxi to centre is around £7/8. However, I know that there is a Metro stop not too far away.

It is possible to get a two night deal for £85 and I think this is good value for the standard of the hotel.

Dull hotel from the outside.... looks like hotel where Alan Partridge lived... location sucked unless you wanted to go to Old Trafford or the Lowry.... we booked through Lastminute and it was a secret deal so we didn't get to choose....no good restaurants around and room service was poor... asked for a ham sandwich at about 10.30 pm and requested that they add cheese but they said they couldn't do this as the sandwiches were made in advance.... nice....

Staff weren't friendly apart from breakfast staff who were excellent.... breakfast was actually decent but at £13 each it was a bit overpriced for what it was...

Rooms very comfy but dull - all in all it was ok....

If you are going to Old Trafford then this hotel is perfect.

The hotel is situated right across the road from the stadium, you couldn't get a better location.
The room was your usual. we had a double bed, plus a double sofa bed for our son. There are tea and coffee making facilities, TV, ironing board etc.
Breakfast was great, the usual choice. We didn't eat in the hotel at night, instead we opted for the trafford centre one night (£10 ish in a taxi) and the Lowrey centre another night. This is a factory outlet centre about a 10/15 minute walk from the hotel, there is a pizza restaurant and cafe rouge to choose from, plus some fast food outlets in the shopping centre. We opted for cafe rouge which was fine.

Overall I would definitely recommend this hotel, especially if you are going to Old Trafford - and they won the footie!! Bonus!!

My friend and I spent Easter weekend here and loved the hotel, the staff and in general the friendly people of manchester! The hotel has been refurbished and smelled of new carpets!! The reception was quite striking, but not as striking as the staff...thanks to Darren & Mara who were lovely!

Great location..easy to Trafford centre..fab shops!! City centre and Village area (great laugh and atmosphere there) just a short cab ride away. Will definately use the hotel again.

We stayed on a saturday evening & wanted a cheapish hotel which was close to the centre as we had tickets for an event at the MEN. The hotel was very nice, much better than I was expecting for the £59.50 we paid for B&B for 2. It would have happily paid £100 for the room & not been dissapointed. Breakfast was excellent, & the drinks are reasonably priced for a hotel.

The only down side was the cost of a taxi from the hotel, it cost £9 into the centre (as it was pre booked... a rip off for the 2miles traveled I thought!) we got a taxi back late at night & it only cost £5. I would reccomend getting the bus/tram into town then getting a taxi from the centre back.

All in all an excellent value hotel if you're wanting a night out in Manchester!
