“Our second visit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 3, 2012

We returned to the Costa Azul having enjoyed a wounderful stay last year and were not disappointed this year either. The hotel, bedrooms, swimming pool were spotlessly clean and management and staff as friendly and helpful as ever. We enjoyed really good local, authentic food dining al fresco. They laid a table for us outside when everyone else was eating in the restaurant and it was no trouble to them at all. The railway runs just behind the hotel but the trains are silent and only about 1 every couple of hours also there is a viaduct near but it is not a main road and again very little traffic and no noise.
The beach is a 5 minute walk with a beach bar and sun beds. A really lovely location for families and couples but you do need a car. We will return again and again.

Room Tip: 2nd floor we prefer as the views are better, room 205 has a sea view and the quaint railway line. T...

A small hotel (just 18 rooms) and almost empty when we went, but spotlessly clean and well run. In fact the only thing we would criticise is the harsh lighting in the restaurant. The food was very good - we got a menu to choose from at breakfast each day and spent time looking forward to our evening meal. Great food, great wine, great service = great holiday.

Room Tip: Would suggest a sea view

Cannot fault the cleanliness of the hotel,I was amazed to find out that we had to pay for the use of a towel for around the pool. The owner and all the staff were very friendly, however I found that it was impossible to have the use of the pool on our last 2days as the owner s family took up all the loungers that were in the sun and they were rather loud. and I felt that I was intruding on a family party, also we must have had the worst room on the hotel 201 as it was next to the laundry room and the noise from the air conditioning which must have been above I room was very noisy, My husbands family live in Balestate so on our next visit . it will be at another hotel never saw a spa

We went by car and booked this hotel because it was near the airport. Happy it was just for one night. They charge you for use of towels. You are not allowed to take the towels that you obviously rent with the room out of the room. So you must pay to have towels for the beach or pool. Stayed at a lot of 4star hotels and this is exactly why you pay a little bit extra.

Next thing was the internet. As a paid guest you would think you could use the internet even on a pc for free. Again you must pay. Hotels with 4 stars have this for free.

All i will say is rooms were clean and big!

A spotlessly clean efficiently run hotel. All staff very helpful and friendly.
Swimming pool with comfortable loungers, safari umbrellas, a delightful
place to while away an afternoon.
Food in relation to cost first class, very Sicilian with fresh local produce.
A bit outside Balestrata so a car is helpful.

Room Tip: All rooms are large, quiet, comfortably furnished

I will give this hotel one mark for cleanliness and that is all because the food was just awful. The chef if thats what they call him could not cook. My 13 yr old grand-daughter could have done a better job and what put me off was the menu every morning on breakfast table asking you to tick off what you wanted for evening like being in a hospital! it used to annoy me profusely especially when the breakfast was so meagre and badly thought up. A few slices of ham which was not fresh. Some plastic slices of cheese a few rolls. A bit of cereal some yoghurt and jam. Some fruit which had been standing around for days and a little bit of cake. The boy at the bar who did every job possible in the hotel asked me in a round about sort of way what a fried egg was and could I go behind to show him how to do it which i did and one morning asked me how to do a scrambled egg which i showed him. The kitchen was spotless and so were the utensils because they had never been used! This boy part of their staff although could not speak english served dinner in evening as well and served breakfast and kept it clean. I could recommend him anywhere because he was so hard working and nice, for which i tipped him.

We were bitten to pieces by mosquitos there and consequently had to go to pharmacy to get various medicines which were very highly priced.

There was no transport except some train which we had to go to village to use it and had to pay a taxi to get to village as too far out and no proper bus service just a dust track with no pavements in the boiling heat. Next to hotel were guard dogs who were barking at night and made it frightening to go past them although they were behind barbed wire, but had they have got out they would have torn people to shreds as they looked hot and bothered! they interrupted my sleep every night barking.

At the hotel the receptionists were quite good and friendly and spoke some English but the owner an older woman and another young lady and was the old lady's grand-daughter did not speak any English and were very unfriendly to their guests as if it was a great effort to be friendly to their guests. Very cold people.

The beach was filthy and could not walk on it and there was litter everywhere. The village was boring nothing going on and seemed to be asleep most of the day and it cost us transport money wherever we went so it made it a very expensive holiday and one we did no enjoy.

I would not recomend this hotel as although they are more than clean in the hotel do not have the customers welfare at heart just their money!!! Would never go again although the boy at the bar was my favourite!!

Room Tip: ask for a suite they have plenty room inside them.

The good - the staff were helpful and friendly with Linda on reception first class. The food choice and quality very disappointing in fact even though on half board ate out after giving the chef two chances to impress. Dont be fooled by their web site the dinners are a waste of ingredients albeit they only use a few! A tick box menu is given at breakfast for you dinner choice. Two starters and two main courses with a poor sweet is your daily offering. I have never seen this before and hopefully never will again in a 4 star hotel. If I was the chef I would be embarassed to put my name to the food.
Location - flyover in front and a railway track behind. Sea view room and we upgraded to a suite looked over the track. This was not a busy track but the trains start at 6.15 and give you a double noise blast as they pass over the metal bridge. Unfortuately, the train will not waken you as you will already be disturbed by the barking dogs in the compound below The town is dirty and small with almost nothing to do. One resident likened the holiday to a prision sentence as they were stranded locally. If you do travel to this area a car is a MUST!!!!! We hired a car for 10 days drove 2600 km and was blown away with the island. Stunning in parts filthy in parts but also beautiful and search out, the food is great. We will go again but will stay well clear of Balestrate and their so called 4 star hotel. You have been warned.

Room Tip: try the front but you still have a flyover!
