First of all, it is very easy to find! The entrance to the long driveway is almost opposite the Avola exit of the highway. The building is set well back from the road so it is very quiet. The whole site is surrounded by olive and citrus trees. Part of the main building is a restaurant (Vecchia Cantina Baroni) which is independent of the Agriturismo and has a separate entrance. Set away from the main building is a large swimming pool with stylish loungers.
The building surrounds an attractive courtyard where, weather permitting (it rained torrentially on two or three occasions during our stay in Sicily), breakfast is served. The guest rooms are arranged in a "U" shape on three sides of the courtyard.
The room we had booked was called Uliveto and is wheelchair accessible. However, we quickly found that, in spite of the fact that the room was extremely well furnished with beautiful designer fittings in the bathroom, apart from one rail with some coathangers in the wardrobe, there was absolutely nowhere to put our clothes and no shelf whatsoever in the bathroom to put toiletries on.
The next morning, I mentioned this to the owners and they kindly agreed to give us another room (Verdello) which had plenty of storage space (but also, frustratingly, nowhere in the shower to put the soap or a shampoo bottle (you end up balancing the soap carefully on the mixer tap!).
I feel that the owners understood the problem with the Uliveto room and things may well have improved by now.
We had a quick look into some of the other rooms and they all seemed to have a chest of drawers - the Uliveto situation must have been an oversight.
The Chiusa di Carlo is very well situated for visiting Noto, Siracusa, Catania, Etna and Taormina and we enjoyed our stay there.
As an aside, there are several new motorways in this area (Noto, Siracusa, Catania) which may not appear on your GPS - ours got thoroughly confused and we did some unwanted rural tourism on more than one occasion!
