I spent four nights in Tabi Tabi, ideal place if you are looking for a nice accomodation closer to some of the best beaches in Izu peninsula.
Even though I really loved the quiet and relaxed atmosphere of this place, as well as some commodities inside such as organic soaps available in the shower and coffee, tea, etc. in commonal kitchen, I would like to complain about the unexpected unfriendly behaviour of the owners.
In such a desert place, no help for visitors ( except from written maps on the wall), they were always out of the guesthouse, coming in ONLY to check in to receive money in advance ( only CASH!) and to check out.
We neither could enter in the house to use the commonal fridge and toilet one minute after check out. Feels immediately like undesiderated guests waiting outside in the backyard.
This experience has been very disapponting!
maybe also a bit expensive compared to the services.

Hi Flavia C,

We are happy to know you enjoyed the organic soaps, complimentary drinks, and other facilities like the free bikes until check out time!
We are really sorry to know that you have misunderstood our check-out policy. Check out is actually at 10:00 am (I believe you came back to pick up your things and have a shower around 3 pm?) At 10 am every day, we begin cleaning and prepping for the new guests arrival. For cleaning and security purposes, we ask guests who have checked out not to use the facilities inside the guesthouse.
For those people who wish to spend another day at the beach, we have provided storage lockers in the backyard next to our (hot) outdoor shower. So checked-out guests can store their things (instead of lugging them to the beach) and have a shower before heading back to the city. It's an extra service most of our guests really appreciate. Some of our guests make the most out of their stay by taking the last train back to Tokyo at 8pm, which is totally fine with us! We would like everyone to make the most of of their beach holiday.
Like many of the guesthouses in the area, the building has been built to accommodate guests only. There are just 4 guest rooms and the only communal area is the kitchen. We come to the guesthouse at 10 a.m. everyday, when most people have headed out for the day, to start the daily cleaning. We hope not to disturb any later sleepers. We pop by regularly but on sunny days most people are at the beach all day, come back for a shower and then head to one of many great restaurants in the area, so we don't have a chance to hang out with all of our guests. We provide not only maps, but also coupons, flyers, and a custom made English guide book with restaurant recommendations and other travel trips.
Although we don't usually stay in the guesthouse ourselves, our home is a 2 minute walk from the guesthouse. (In Shimoda many of the guesthouses have a family home next to the building which provides a little extra privacy for the family and their guests).
To help keep us in contact with our guests, there is a "call button" where we can be reached 24 hours a day. So if we are not in the guesthouse, guests can contact us anytime by pushing the button marked "push for assistance", we can either answer the call or we'll be there in 2 minutes.
We love to share our love for Shimoda! There are so many beautiful places to visit and amazing food to eat! Each room is provided with custom made guide books (written in English) for the area that guests can leisurely browse through, but we also love to answer your questions and provide guests with personal recommendations.
We hope to help you make the most our of your stay in beautiful Shimoda!
Thanks for staying!
