“A perfect stopover on the way down to Spain”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 5, 2010

My sister and I (with Dali the dog of course!) stopped off at Appletons for one night on our way down to Spain last summer. The location was excellent to break up a long journey, and we were greeted with a very warm welcome by Edward, Malcom and their lovely lab, Leo. It has all been said before but the room was clean and comfortable, the food was excellent - especially the chocolate and banana brioche bread and butter pudding! - and Dali had a wonderful time playing in the huge expanse of garden with Leo.

Malcolm keeps the garden in beautiful condition, and Edward is clearly very houseproud and a true food lover. All in all, this was an excellent stopover and I would highly recommend it to anyone. We found this accommodation on pawsabroad and chose it because they allowed dogs. Dali was welcomed just as much as we were - she gives it 5 stars too!

We made an overnight stop on the way north from the Pyrenees, and what a gem of a place -we are so glad to have discovered it. We were warmly welcomed by Edward and Malcolm, not forgetting the dog and cat! We enjoyed a lovely dinner - Edward's pumpkin soup and fish pie was delicious! All washed down with a glass- or three - of wine, before we succumbed to tiredeness and retired for the night to our very comfortable room. Unfortunately we arrived after dark and it was misty in the morning as we left,so we weren't able to see their lovely garden at first hand, although we had seen pictures of it. We have sampled various places on previous trips down to the Pyrenees but I can safely say that Appletons has been the best and it will be our first choice for future trips.

My wife, our two dogs and I recently spent a night in the hotel which is run by Edward and his partner Malcolm. We were made to feel most welcome and would highly recommend the hotel to anyone in search of an excellent value for money, high quality and friendly place to spend a night or two.
We enjoyed a superb home cooked three course meal with what seemed like an endless supply of wine. We were too full to take advantage of the offered cheese and port but we will starve ourselves before visiting next time.
The room that we stayed in was very clean and the bed was so comfortable - good quality linen and oddles of hot water for a long and relaxing shower.
Our only complaint was that we could only stay for one night.

On a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being superb with no faults we would rate this hotel as a 9.5.

After the drive down from Calais ' Appleltons Farm house' was the perfect stop off point breaking the back of the journey to Carcassone.
This place is a real gem, the rooms were very clean and comfortable and owners Edward and Malcolm were great hosts.
We had dinner there (highly recommended) the food was fantastic and plentiful as the wine and conversation flowed in front of the blazing log fire. Most memorable, I will defiantly return.

We promised ourselves we'd go back and we did. This time we stayed longer and had a wonderful time, sightseeing, a trip to the Chateau at Valencay and quite a bit of simply sitting in the sun

I’ve stayed a few of times now. This B&B in peaceful countryside, is a great find as I’m often driving the A20 and it’s the perfect place to break the journey. Edward and Malcolm, always welcoming, are excellent hosts. The large garden is great to unwind in before a lovely home-cooked meal. Comfortable clean rooms, own bathroom and wifi access if you have to be connected. Breakfast easily meets the standards set by the previous evening’s meal. I’d be happy to stay longer and borrow Leo the dog for some long walks exploring the area if I could.

We stayed at Appleton's for 5 days and we have asolutely nothing to complain about whatsoever. Malcolm, Edward , Leo, and not forgetting Gobi, made us feel so welcome. The room was clean and comfortable, the farmhouse lovingly restored through Malcom's very hard work, the food cooked by Edward was delicious, and the gardens were a delight to sit in with a very welcome drink after a day out exploring on our motorbike and enjoying some great biking roads. There was plenty of space to park cars and our motorbike. We arrived as guests and we left as friends. It was a very different experience for us to sit with other guests for breakfast and dinner but we really enjoyed it and Edward and Malcolm are excellent hosts which made for a great atmosphere. This area of France is relatively unknown but if you do decide to travel around there (and it is well worth it) then you can choose no better place to stay than Appletons.
