“fabulous, meal of the holiday”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 4, 2012

We had originally booked another restaurant(cant remember the name but they have"secret pig" on the menu) but on sitting down realised they did not accept debit or credit cards. We decided to leave and headed round to the water front reasaurants where on chatting to staff at "Baixmar"we decided to eat here. We were very glad we did as the food was out of this world. We ordered clams cooked in garlic and corriander and octopus cooked in cream(salavating as i write this)as starters, the octopus in garlic was so good we ordered another to share. 2 of our party ordered tuna cooked in garlic and corriander as a main, the others more octopus cooked in different styles(3) including, "Algarvian pulvo" this followed by various desserts including traditional fig and apple cake peach melbas and ices etc.The meal was delicious no negatives ,the staff friendly and attentive without being in your face.Great eating experience at very reasonable price(158 euros for 6)

“Excellent Seafood restaurant”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 14, 2012

We lunched here on a dull early spring day, but the welcome and the food certainly bightened up the day. The fish on offer is local and fresh, well prepared and well-priced (as this is a quayside restaurant in a tourist haunt, it could easily have been disappointing, but it wasn't).

“Terrific service, acceptable food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 7, 2011

We visited this restaurant on an extremely wet day, and were immediately cheered up by the owner, who was charming and friendly. The food was good, if a little salty and the wine was good and well-priced. A very enjoyable meal and somewhere we would definitely return to.

“Fab Restaurant”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 9, 2008

We visited Santa Lucia in September 2008 & straight away we were delighted with this small fishing village. A lovely river side promenade with many restaurants overlooking the river.

We’d heard that the village is renowned for its Octopus dishes & we weren’t disappointed when we ate in Restaurant Baixamar. I chose the Octopus Rice which was wonderful, delicately seasoned with coriander – it was delicious.

The owner Pedro was friendly & helpful, he showed us pictures that adorned the walls of the restaurant of how the area looked years ago. His wife is the chef & they make a great team. Check out this lovely restaurant, I’m sure you won’t be disappointed.
