“Probably the worst Indian in North Shropshire....”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed August 13, 2012

Firstly I have to fully agree with the two previous reviews, once apon atime this Indian was a delight to visit, however, these days both the delivery service and standard of food offered is dire.

The owner,Mr Khan had to deliver a takeaway personally after we had been lied to and fobbed off for over 2 hours!,promising the service was unacceptable and we wouldnt be seeing a repeat proformance.
Foolishly I gave Shabab another chance, this time collecting my takeaway to avoid the 2 hour wait! needless to say the quality of the bland tosh offered and the fact the order was completly wrong just cemented the fact I will never be visiting this establishment again,I can see now why the seating area is nearly always empty!
If you are thinking of having a half decent Indian in Wem,try across the road at The King of Spice

“Shropshire Ron is Right”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed May 10, 2012

Could not agree more with the previous reviewer.
I've been using the shabab since it was bought by the current owner Mr Khan back in the early/mid 90s and have sadly witnessed the gradual decline into now what is a sorry excuse for an Indian restaurant & takeaway. They used to serve up dark, rich and deeply flavoured steaming bowls of deliciousness but sadly now they offerings are completely bland and insipid. It makes my eyes rain. "Voted Best Balti in Shropshire"........... maybe 15 years ago they could have competed but nowadays a Bombay Bad Boy Pot Noodle could give them a run for their money.

“Ranges from very average to very bad”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed February 14, 2012

Shabab Wem !

Why wont TA acknowledge the existence of Wem, Shrophire?

**********************

We have been patrons of this place for a while, years and years in fact.
The trouble with Shropshire’s small market towns is the lack of quality in their restaurants.
Now we like a good curry, all too often we settle for a rubbish one from this place because we don’t want to travel to Shrewsbury or Whitchurch. It’s our own fault, we know that it’s poor but keep going back. A weekend “Ruby” can be too tempting even if you know that disappointment will certainly follow.

So down to the nitty-gritty.
Flavourless sauces, poor quality ingredients and spicing from the 1970’s. No subtly, no finesse, no class. It’s not as if you could point the finger at stock sauces, the lack of consistency casts doubt on even that foul practice. But the spicing really is amateur night. As for the tandoori dishes, well they all come smothered in a nasty mint sauce, none of that subtle yogurt and spice marinade. I’d say reheated by microwave and covered in the minty gunk to hide the fact.
How hard is it to cook Tandoori chicken or lamb tikka?
No really how hard?
This stuff is unrecognisable from tandoori as any sane person would know it.
We are driven to write this review after yet another foul offering, from now on we will just flush a fistful of tenners down the toilet, the result will be the same.
Will we go back, almost certainly. We once had the pleasure of a take way delivery where the delivery driver had opened our food and taken a sample thinking no one would notice. We complained immediately, the response from Shabab was “I don’t know what we can do about that”, no apology, no refund. And we still went back, it took 18 months that time but we still went back. We are weak and lazy.

You can do better, we can do better.
