We will NEVER go to this restaurant again. It was early Tuesday evening and the waitress service was abysmal. After we had finished our main course we waited 45 minutes before anyone came to clear the plates or ask if we wanted dessert. We waved our arms in the air trying to attract the attention of two waitresses but they didn't see us/or ignored us. By the time the plates were cleared most of our party had gone outside as we were bored.
The 4 year old with us asked for tomato ketchup and after 15 minutes it hadn't arrived so I asked a different waitress who brought it straight away. The 2 year old started to cry with hunger after waiting 1 hr 20 mins for food and we had to take her out for a walk.
The waitresses were unhelpful all evening and not one of them smiled throughout the evening. The service was appallingly slow; the worst service we have ever had in any restaurant in any part of the country or anywhere in the world.
The food: - the steaks were less than 1cm thick and as soon as they hit the frying pan they would have cooked straight through, so saying that we wanted rare or medium rare was pointless. And they cost £20 each for ribeye steak. The risotto was boring and tasteless and the texture of thick polyfilla. And how did the chef cook the chips and still keep them 'white' when normally a fried chip would go golden ?
I have read the reviews of this restaurant and the owner keeps saying they 'strive hard' - well there was no striving on Tuesday. The service was appallingly slow and I hope that the Mytton and Mermaid can soon afford to employ a chef who is interested in food and employ waitresses who give a damn.
