“Heaven in a Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 27, 2011

Palazzo Del Mare is a truly stunning, beautiful hotel from the minute you arrive to the minute you leave.

We stepped off the coach up into reception past a pool at either side of the entrance, our cases were taken off the coach and wheeled into the hotel by the Palazzo Del Mare staff, whilst we sat and relaxed the receptionist booked us in swiftly and accurately. Reception is huge with high ceiling, glass walls and seating areas.

We had a large room on the first floor overlooking the 4 smaller pools to the side of the hotel. The room was decorated in neutral cream and brown colours, are spacious and clean. There is plenty of storage space including a double and single wardrobe and several drawers. The room also houses fridge, tea & coffee making facilities, towel robes and slippers. The beds are by far the most comfortable we have ever slept in a hotel.

The pool is simply stunning, no amount of videos or photographs are able to do it the slightest justice. It’s vast. The water depth is perfect, at the deepest is 1.45 metres. Once in the water the conversation goes ‘shall we swim this way or that way, should we do a left here or a right, have we to swim up there or down that way’ you swim the length then under a number of walkway bridges and down the other length of the pool….just simply stunning you have to see it to believe it. There are also 2 Jacuzzi and a childs pool. Pools towels could be changed as often as you needed to.

Sun beds are plentiful as the demand is reduced by the swim-up rooms having their own sun beds on the terraces so there is no demand on the central area. Even at peak times there would be several sun beds free either side of you and you never had the feeling the hotel was full. You only realised that the hotel was actually full at meal times… come to that later. Sun beds were great with each pair having a fixed umbrella and table. Watermelon around the pool is served twice a day.

The restaurant is situated on the first floor around a central decorative pool and open roof space and side opened wall, we never had to queue or wait for a table and it was only at this time you realised the hotel was fully booked. There is a large selection of food catering with a lean to the Europeans as generally the Palazzo Del Mare was predominately 90% German speaking guests. The food was varied each day with a large choice and it was of top quality, set out beautifully in a large spacious area. Seating could be selected from around the pool, against the open wall or inside a closed area. Guys you need to wear long pants no shorts allowed.

Now the staff were the nicest, kindest most helpful we have encountered, from the receptionists to the waiters, waitresses and cleaning personnel, they were always smiling, chatting, and courteous and were extremely efficient.

Included in this complex are a general store, ice-cream/waffle shop, internet/games room, beauty spa, bouquet, hairdressers, indoor pool and gym.

It’s really hard to find any negatives about Palazzo Del Mare with one exception; prices for drinks are 5 star. 2 rum and cokes cost 16 Euro’s, walk into Marmari and the cost for the same was 6.80 euro’s. For a litre and a half of water in the shop the cost was 4.50Euros, walk into Marmari for the same item cost just 60 cents. Just be wary.

I am going to make a special mention for the Sunset Bar as this is by far the best bar in Marmari. A family run business with Captain and Dimitri at the helm set effectively in what can only be described as a garden centre but the plants are not for sale. People happy in their work, Sunset has it just right with lovely home cooked food and drinks available, pool table, darts etc. A place at balance with nature.

We picked this holiday simply for the hotel not the area as Marmari is a one street town which all in all is rather tatty and there is nothing there. There are two or three bars and a supermarket but nothing else, not the place for teenagers. However if you want a top stunning hotel, a relaxing, chilled holiday this is the hotel for you…Just book it

We are a couple in our early forties and fifties

This was our third stay on the Kos island (spread over 6 years) and must honestly say that this hotel has beaten all records! Before that we visited the Neptune hotel in Mastichari and the Grecotel Imperial in Psalidi which at that timewere the leading hotels on the island (both 5 *).

The Palazzo del Mare building concept is really amazing; lots of water everywhere, cosy rooms, good bathrooms, nice food (also authentic Greek), nice staff (also the trainees), great beach with nice white sand and comfortable long chairs... Not to forget the beautifully manicured gardens. The gardeners never stop trimming, cutting, cleaning - really amazing to see how hard they work in this heat!

Our teenager kids knew it would be a quiet and relaxing holiday as the entertainment is quasi nil... But they enjoyed the windsurfing and catamaran (100 m from the hotel).

I would like to thank a few persons who really made the difference;

Rolando Panajoti, the front office manager who is such a nice person and even upgraded our rooms (don't know if the fact that my husband speaks Greek helped..... :)),

Nikos, the Maître d'Hôtel in the main restaurant (always smiling and helpful in any way),

and last but not least; Frank, the Belgian guy in charge on the beach... always in a good mood, very down to earth person, chatting with everybody, hard worker too!

Also thanks to Irina, she is the lady responsible for the Pilate/Yoga course which is given twice a day and is free of charge! My daughter enjoyed it so much!

Negative points? Well, the price of the wines in the restaurant and perhaps add some light entertainment at night from time to time (instead of the pianist and singer)....

Thanks to everyone (too many to mention) who made our stay memorable!

Cheers, Sara

Amazing hotel! Especially the executive room next to the pools, that kind of have their own special part of the swimming pool. You wake up in the morning and you can go for a short swim straight from your bed. The same applies for every time of the day!
Relaxing atmosphere, minimal modern design in the rooms, nice food, nice spa facilities and services with apivita products. Everything was fine!
I have tried to stay there again this year for my honeymoon, but was fully booked! : (
We will definitely try to stay there again!

Room Tip: executive rooms next to the pool are the best!

Our stay at the Palazzo del Mare was, to be honest, as close to perfect as you can get! I have stayed in 5 Star resorts all over the world, and the Palazzo provided the best service of them all. We arrived late at night, and were greeted with sparkling wine at reception and a short welcome talk.
Staying in a superior room was heaven! We had direct access to a pool we shared with only 3 other rooms, and it was truly stunning! When got into the room, we were shown how to use the safe, and then enjoyed a complimentary bottle of wine and a plate of food from the evening meal that we missed.
Rooms were cleaned everyday, the staff were super friendly and helpful, especially when we needed to arrange a late check out. The food was absolutely spectacular! No generic hotel buffet rubbish, but actual traditional, freshly prepared greek cuisine - fabulous and delicious! We were also offered a free meal at the resident italian restaurant, which was exquisite.
The only thing I could possibly criticise, is the price of drinks at the bar. Cocktails average at about 10 euros each, and they do mix a good pina colada, but it is a bit of a liberty!
I would reccommend walking down to Marmari, and visiting a little greek restaurant called "Smiley's" for a Gyro Plate. It doesn't look like much, but it was delicous! My boyfriend is greek, and speaks fluently, so we did get some special treatment!
I have never been to a more beautiful hotel than The Palazzo del mare, the main pool especially, is the most breathtaking sight I have ever seen! The whole hotel is bathed in sunset at night and it is gorgeous!
We got such an amazing deal through Thomson, I almost couldn't believe the value for money! I wouldn't really reccommend this for families with young children, or if you are after some nightlife, but for couples, this is a MUST-VISIT destination!

Room Tip: Make sure you get a pool access room! It is absolutely worth it! Superior rooms are gorgeous.

We have just returned from a two week stay at the Palazzo Del Mare, Kos. The hotel really lived up to its reputation and we were not disappointed. Great layout, massive pool, always sunbeds available around the pool area and also the beach any time of day, despite the hotel being at full capacity . The place was immaculate and the service was second to none, clean sheets and towels provided regularly and you didn’t need to ask. Service in the restaurant matched the rest of the hotel, very attentive waiting staff, so much so that you didn’t dare put your cutlery down or your plate and remaining food would be whisked away before you could say anything. Fantastic choice of food and presentation. In our opinion the whole experience was excellent. I feel it is only right that I should mention a couple of points that others have also noted. In the evening the entertainment was very dull and the music didn’t seem to appeal to anyone. It is such a shame as they have a very contemporary bar area, but it was always empty and there was never any music or guests in there. The management are really missing a trick here, because that would make this the perfect hotel if they provided some shows like Mama Mia etc . One other point is that although there are families staying at this hotel, there were very few Brits here and no activities for children, apart from a small pool and infants playpark. It is very hard to find fault with this hotel and we would definitely recommend it or its sister hotel to anyone travelling to Kos.

Just got back from a 2 week stay at the Palazzo del Mare & It's certainly lives up to it's billing. From the moment you arrive you are made to feel extremely welcome with a quick check in followed by a tour of the facilities while your bags are taken to your room. The whole hotel and grounds are faultlessy clean and there appeared to be people cleaning all day & night. There are masses of sunbeds around the two main pools so no problems in finding a place to laze away the hot summer days. The service & food in the resturant is impecable and I must say a massive thank you to Stefan, who waited on us most days, he really made us feel special and as soon as he saw us entering the resturant in the morning, he would have our tea & coffe on the table waiting and the same in the evening with our bottle of wine. As with the rest of the hotel, the rooms are spotless, you can have bedding & towels changed daily if you desire, there was always hot water (& I mean scorching) from the powerful shower and some nice extras as proper fly screens fitted to patio doors.
I would only question 2 things with this hotel, firstly the entertainment, or lack of it. There was a couple of greek nights held which were truly abysmal and on all the other nights of our 2 week stay there was a "house band" who were to shocking to put into words. My main gripe however would be the prices within he hotel which are absolutley ridiculous. I know this is a 5 star hotel but €4 for a small beer, €7 for a Voda or the cheapest bottle of wine at €17 is scandalous and there were even charging €4 for a small bottle of water. I think it was because of this why the bar was absolutley deserted every night with people walking 10 minutes down the road into the village of Marmari where a large beer was only €3. Surely the management of this hotel must realise that the high prices are infact losing them more money than they would make if drinks were more reasonably priced as more people would stay within the hotel of an evening.

One last thing to add, if you do visit this hotel, then please do walk 5 minutes along the road where you wil find small bar / eatery called the sunset bar. The views of the sunset are truley spectacular and Dimitirs and his family who run the bar are wonderfull people, like all the greeks, and will make you feel very welcome.

We stayed at this hotel 2nd july 2011 for a week and the reviews for this hotel are all true its a fantastic hotel very clean and very well staffed. The staff are hard working and always polite. When we arrived we were upgraded to a junior suite this was a very nice room with good views of the pool and the sea. The food was really good lots of choice and always fresh . No problem getting sunbeds round the pool always plenty and the pools amazing its huge. The only thing i would say is the drinks are quite expensive and the area is very quiet but dont let that put you off this hotel is well worth the money and you wont be disappointed. We will visit again in the future.
