“excellent room on the 7th floor with Balcony and sea views”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 23, 2012

Fantastic 4 day stay with very good service and attention to detail.
The location, services, food, shuttle bus to Taromina town and
standard was all excellent. The cleanliness, the choice of food
was fantastic. Could not find fault with anything.

Room Tip: Top floor rooms at the grand palace hotels are the best

We really loved this hotel. Our room was in the newer Grand Palace and was enormous with a fabulous large terrace which had loungers and a large seating table. It was quite a trek from the main hotel to the newer rooms. The views were spectacular and poolside was really stunning. The ony dissappointment was the expensive restaurant. We only had one adult eat and the kids had a
Astra dish each and we were charged over €100! The food was good but not really justifiable at that price.

Room Tip: We got a sea view family suite and it was well worth it.

Dear Guests from London,

thank you for taking the time to leave a comment about your stay.
We are glad you have enjoyed your vacation.
As for the food, we have noticed that you liked it but you found it very expensive. Please note that our food rates are in line with other 4 stars hotels and moreover we always try to get the best products, especially for fresh fish and other things that have a certain cost if you want them to be top class.
We hope you will come back in Sicily and send our

We liked :
Almost everything
- Comfortable clean rooms, large sea view balcony
- Spectacular views from excellent pools
- Fresh food cooked in front of you for dinner
- Invariably helpful and cheerful staff ( if you interact with them )

We disliked :
Not much but:
- Breakfast was the same everyday - How about an egg chef ?
- Beds were too firm for our tastes and pillows uncomfortable
- The entertainer should give up singing and stick to his keyboard playing which is good

All in all a very good hotel which is clearly well managed with an eye for detail and a happy staff
Tatjana and Tina were particularly helpful - above and beyond the call of duty.

Baia Taormina hotel can be a little misleading, as you think you book in Taormina and instead it is 6 km away.
The hotel is perched on a hill overlooking the sea and the view is just stunning. The building itself is good looking in shades of pinky orange and plenty of vegetation. Not easy to find it, as the signs are quite small.
The staff are very friendly and willing to help; we were upgraded to a junior suite, which was very spacious with a very big bathroom and a lovely terrace overlooking the sea.
Toiletries are limited (no sewing kit, or vanity case or conditioner) but replenished daily.
Towels are given for the swimming pools or the beach, which is close and lovely and the cost of sunbed and umbrella is included in the room rate.
As the hotel is distant from everywhere, they provide shuttle buses to go to Taormina and the beach; they are frequent and must be booked.
There is free parking and the staff do all the work.

Breakfast offers a good selection of sweet and savoury foods and fresh fruit, but it is not consistent! The first day I had a freshly made omelette, but the following two days the omelette section was closed, we don’t know whether it was the weekend, there were no signs or explanations. Prepared fruit such as watermelon were not always available, some days the only fruit were apples or peaches.
We had dinner at the restaurant only once, it was near closing time, but the waiters did all they could to accommodate us. Food was nice, but it came at a very costly price!
The prices are a little hefty also for the bar (9 euros for an aperitive) and the spa, which I didn’t even consider.
There is a problem because they have only ONE lift for customers and it can be a long wait to and from the bedroom as there are many guests. They should improve the staff lift (I used it, very slow) and let everyone use it.
Overall a very good hotel, they could do so much better with a little attention to small details. A pleasant experience.

Went there two couples in June-July.
The hotel is spread wide on the side of a mountain, some 3.5mi north of Taormina thus offering a tranquile experience and fabulous views and yet within easy reach of the picturesque tourist attraction that is Taormina.
We were booked into a deluxe DBL in the Grand Palace. Good size of room & bathroom, a huge terrace/sun deck, nicely & modern furnished, huge, perfect bed but a tiny flat screen offering only about 4-5 channels with terrible signal quality thus useless. I will come back to the A/C later.
We had free wifi but what a mess...every few hours the password would expire so you had to go by the reception time and again to get new ones.
The hotel is quite big and has an intricate layout with many wings, corridors, passages and elevators. If you are booked in one of the top floors of the Grand Palace, the highest point of the hotel, it's quite a trip down to the reception involving three elevators which, at peak times of the day can be so busy that it can take 15 min to reach the lobby. Clearly a toddler can easily get lost in the maze, so beware.
Two floors down from reception there's two pools, quite nice and with great views just as shown in the hotel's presentation images.
What's not as in those pictures is the terraces outside the restaurant. It was mind boglling that in June_July the terraces adjacent to the restaurant were closed down thus preventing guests to enjoy the great vistas along with their meal.
Moreover, the guests were confined to the inside of the restaurant which apart from the fact that is was as appealing & nice as the mess hall of a public retirement establishment the A/C was kept either off or at a minimum, therefore the air in the restaurant was stall, humid and of course, hot (mind you, the çoolest day while we were there was about 37 degrees Celsius with 80% humidity). Breakfast & dinner on the terraces would have been something to remember for guest. Sadly, the management decided to void this treat for their guests.

Buffet breakfast was Italian style: two types of chees and of ham/salami, great fresh tomatoes, olive oil and acetto balsamico, fantastic selection of breads, terrible, unedible scrambled eggs, boiled eggs and a huge selection of sweets. Fresh fruits quite scarce (the water melon was ok most of the time), juices from the carton and sub-par coffee by Italian standards.

We ate dinner once at the restaurant and were blown away by the selection and particularly by the quality of food: salads, risotto, sea food, grilled cheeses and then the main courses with pasta, meats or fishh, all cooked to perfection. The quality of food was clearly well above the standard of the hotel and a good experience. The wine though was not good. We found out that, if you avoid tourist trap restaurants, chances are you will have a similar fperfect oodie experience in almost every establishment popular amongst locals. Clearly, Sicilian cuisine is one of the attractions of this destination. These people know a lot about good food. Go out one night for dinner and try out O Dommuseddu restaurant located in Forza D'Agro village, quite close via a winding road, atop the mountain where the hotel is located.

Getting to the services:
They misread our reservations therefore our rooms were already booked when we got there. We had to spend the first night at a nearby hotel where the quality of accomodation was distinctly lesser than our booking. OK, mistakes happen but what troubled us was the fact that the reception manager tried to lie to us first blaming some repair work being done, finally succombing after 1 hour of arguing to admit to the truth. We were given a make good in the form of a free dinner & drinks.
The reception staff was generally courteous but the effectiveness & efficiency of their action was nil. Some new staff members clearly did not spoke or understand any English so the ensuing situation was absolutely hilarious if it werent at the expense of our time and needs.
The waiters in the restaurant were sedated. Not only it was a challenge to draw their attention to your needs but the service turn around after that was discouraging. With ne notable exception and I am teribly sorry I forgot his name. A gentleman in his 50's, very caring and attentive, smiling and truly going out of his way to accomodate guest's needs & orders. If you go there it wil be truly easy to single him out of the others.

Two good services: the hotel puts out a free shuttle to Taormina or Letojanni (a nearby town on the way) every 1.5 hour or so. You need to book at reception in advance. The shuttle ran strictly by the schedule every time we used it which was good.
Then the hotel has its own pebble beach -Sunkisses- some 0.7mi down the road to Taormina. With a voucher from reception you get free sunbed & umbrella and a 50% reduction to the parking cost (just 3 euros/day). The beach is ok (a bit windy when we were there) and has a nice terrace serving drinks and lunch.

Smiling was a rare event amongst staff. To us it felt like most were doing forced labour there.
Efficiency was also inexistent. We reported troubles with our external A/C unit three times, the noise it made was nothing short of what an airshow sounds & feels when up close. Every time we were promised a technical serviceman would be dispatched to our unit to fix it. It never happened. I improvised a fix myself (few screws that were supposed to hold the unit firmly attached to its metal mount on the wall were loose) but it only held for a week. Finally we had to change rooms yet again to enjoy a good night's sleep.
One day we asked for the timetable of the ferry sailing to the eolian Islands. It took almost five days to get it printed out. Two days our request went forgotten, for the next three days the printer was either out of order or out of ink, or....

The hotel ground is very steep. Despite the fact there is ample parking space all around, beware the steep winding alleys especialy if you drive a stick rental. Can be challenging to maneouvre around these steep, narrow alleys.
I do recommend renting a car as the island offers numerous destinations to visit & enjoy and the distances are quite big. But take the hotel's shuttle for Taormina.

I would recommend you keep looking before settling for this hotel option. My review is detailed enough for you to decide.

Room Tip: chose a top floor room in the Grand Palace. they all have nothing but sea view as the back of the ho...

Dear Guests from Bucarest,

thank you for your time writing a review on Tripadvisor.
We are sorry that some of the services provided did not match your expectations.
We are improving the choice of tv channels since other guests have remarked the same thing.
We also confirm that some of our best rooms are located high in the building and sometimes you have to take 3 lifts but please rest assured that it takes a maximum of 5 minutes.
Of course we had already apologized to you directly in the hotel for sleeping in another hotel for the first night and offered a compensation for this lack of service.
We have also taken in great consideration all other comments and suggestions especially for the terrace.
Also note that we would be glad to welcoming you again, we are sure you would improve your comment to at least 4 stars instead of the three you gave us now for this stay.

best regards, Mario Miano

My girlfriend and I were lucky enough to stumble upon the Baia Taormina where we stayed for a week exploring the east coast of Sicily. And how lucky we were. A simply stunning hotel, run by incredibly helpful and smiley staff for whom nothing is too much trouble.

Where to start? The view. Just incredible. The hotel is perched on a hillside with a breath taking vista overlooking the bay of Taormina. Our room, a deluxe (they kindly upgraded us for free on arrival), had a huge terrace and was spacious, clean, comfortable and featured charming local designer touches such as the wrought iron bed and Sicilian art. It was everything you’d expect and more from a four star hotel, and struck a perfect balance between authentic Sicilian and modern luxury.

As you’d expect with Sicily, the hotel food was to die for. Nice and simple – each day we’d be presented with a selection of fresh fish, local meats and mouth-watering vegetables local to the area. For lunch they’d put on a huge buffet with seemingly inexhaustible supplies. Puddings to die for and the best coffee this side of Milan.

The Baia is located about a 15 or 20 minute drive from Taormina, the go to spot for flashy restaurants, overpriced bars and dinky hotels. Taormina is beautiful but the secret is firmly out and has become overrun with Italian holidaymakers and noisy tourists. We were so glad that we weren’t staying there, not only as we saved a fortune on an equivalent hotel (two pools, spa etc), but it was lovely to have the option to dip in and out of the madness (it’s that busy) and then retreat to the tranquillity of the Baia. If you don’t have a car, no panic, as the hotel will run you back and forth from Taormina in their complimentary shuttle bus.

As you can probably tell, we loved the Baia and it really made our trip. We’ll certainly be back, so hope to see you there! Ciao ciao.

It was a pleasure to stay at Baia Taormina, a very welcoming atmosphere, friendly personnel and awesome sea view. The room was very clean (every day cleaning), nice furniture and design.
As for the hotel, it has a nice arhitecture and is situated on a coast, thus assuring good sea views. Also, you can enjoy the SPA services - very relaxing and with many choices.

The hotel pools were clean, one filled with sea water.
Also, the free shuttle bus to/from the beach and to/from Taormina town center was really helpful.

The hotel had a private pebbly beach with free sunbeds&umbrellas.

You can also visit Isola Bela - downtown, with the cable car from Taormina. It is a popular beach over there.

Overall I was impressed by Sicily, and specially by hotel Baia Taormina!

Room Tip: All rooms have sea-view.
