“Charming!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 18, 2009

Stayed during the Boogie & Blues Festival weekend. Picked up cabin key in the morning - checked in at 11:30 pm! Cabin was spotless. Gary and Julie very friendly and helpful. Wished we could have stayed longer -- will definitely go back!

If you are looking for quaint, cozy cottages, along with a quiet, relaxed atmosphere, as well as the sound of a nearby river, then this is the place for you. We have mini-vacationed (1-3 nights) here every year for the past 5-6 years and we love it. We've stayed in the motel (connected cottages is a much better description), as well as almost every cottage. We've been there in the summer enjoying the inground pool and later canoeing on the Pemigiwasset River. We've stayed there at the height of fall foliage - it was absolutely spectacular. And we've even stayed in mid-winter and enjoyed snow shoeing directly across the street. Hosts Gary and Julie are the absolute best at making you feel so welcomed. Whether you stay one night or ten, it's a place you'll be sure to return to again and again.

I used to come here as a child with my family- even stopped here on our honeymoon! Started coming back here since 2005 and have enjoyed our stays tremendously. The cabins are just the perfect size and very clean. The pool is enjoyable- in and out! But the best part is the friendliness of the owners- Julie and Gary. They make you feel right at home. When we arrived this year, my husband's first comment to Julie was, "Honey, I'm home!" They even have a bonfire on Saturday nights for any guests who want to come, providing the makings for s'mores. There were several guests that were part of a larger group for a family get-away. Perfect location. Be sure to check them out!

I am hypercritical and for "fun" on the ride home was actually looking for something to complain about, but this place is perfect. The cottage was immaculate, and the owners were accessible and friendly without being pushy. The location is literally right off the highway and centrally located, but it's set back from the raod so that you don't feel as if you are "on" the highway. Plus you have the river right behind you. Just perfect.

The cabin was cleaner than most and the bathroom was in like new conditon. The bed was comfortable but with any cabin, the room had a slight musty smell to it. The cabin was outfitted with a small refridgerator, microwave and coffee maker, but had no inside tables suitable on which to eat off of. Each cabin however, did have an outside picnic table. Added bonus of a line of propane grills for the guest to use, gratis. The indoor fireplace was pleasant, but only "Duraflame" type logs are allowed to be used. No outside fireplaces for private use. Our biggest dissapointment was the lack of room service/ daily housekeeping. Once you've checked in, you are on your own to take out the trash, make the bed, find fresh towels etc. The owners were quite friendly and provided what you needed, but you had to go to the office and asked for it. In general, I would liken Gilcrest to more like camping in a camper, only no roasting marshmallows. I will add that you would be hard pressed to beat their weekday rate.
