We stayed in De Hoop cottage. Do not expect luxury and modern conveniences here - gas and paraffin lamps keep the atmosphere of South African farm living of yesteryear. The cottage is situated in the veldt - wide open space, dark still nights and quiet, tranquil days.
The beds are comfortable with warm duvets, there is a big fireplace in the lounge for chilly nights (wood is an extra charge..) There is a two plate gas stove for boiling the kettle, and a gas geyser which supplies hot water for the bath and shower. So all comforts are provided.
As the previous reviewer states - the food is absolutely outstanding. Dinners brought to the cottage are delicious, and breakfasts at the farmhouse are excellent.
We stayed two nights - there are interesting walks on the farm. A drive and stroll to the canyon is worthwhile - a spectacular sight - and the plants and flowers are fascinating. There are weird rock formations close to the cottage that can be explored or simply relax and enjoy the fresh, clean air and the wide open sky.
The Dassies that come out to feed in the early evening and morning are the biggest I have ever seen...!!
A unique and enjoyable place to stay.
