This place is ideal for weekend away with your other half. We booked our stay at the very last minute and were absolutely amazed to find the room in "as advertised on the website " condition, absolutely pristine, with stunningly beautiful flower arrangements. Service was nearly impeccable both in the hotel and restaurant and the whole package hit a sweet spot at 2800SKK (64 GBP) per night. As it says in the title, it's suitable for couples (candles in the bathroom provided :D)
Rooms are good size each decorated in different colour scheme. We ended up in a green one and it was georgeous and it mattered little that the sofas and large bed were in faux leather rather then real one. High attention to detail was evident throughout and wrought basket with toiletries was a nice touch. Even the towels match the colour! Hard to describe vividly, the pics on their website say it all.
There's a restaurant downstairs, which serves some decent food at richly and beautifully laid tables. My pork with prunes was amazing, as well as my asparagus soup (I was less bowled over by the "purple rice" - mixed with beetroot - polenta would've been better for this dish). My companions chicken was of pretty good standard too. Bar area is pleseant enough, shame about the view (of the local football stadium).
As these guys are certainly aiming at the higher end of the market I shall name the couple of small snags we've hit or things that were less impressive...
Wine list - no information of origin or year for most of the wines - we opted for the Cabernet Sauvignon at 440SKK and this was not driknable at all. I hope they sort out the wine selection.
Breakfast - served to the room at no extra charge, great! Shame they forgot the drinks, but we were too shagged out to complain. Oh, and it arrived cold.
Noise in the morning - this is unlikely to happen again, speaking to the staff they're adding 3 more rooms and saune + jacuzzi. Still drillhammer is something I don't like to wake up to, but then again - it lead to more "morning activities" in our bedroom, so not all that bad.
Plates and serving dishes - strange rectagular red see-through things; simple white porcelain would've been so much better; the cook is certainly capable of sending out well decorated and interesting dishes, shame they were let down by the plates.
The Chateau is located in the middle of town, with not very nice communistic apartment blocks to one side, but there's a very lush, green and nearly private park to the other. The park shuts at 20:00 winter time (23:00 in the summer), yet the hotel retains its own access. Great for an late evening walk.
The place is new and it wasn't in our TomTom map of eastern Europe, but if you just use the name of the street it's easy to find and it's easily accessible from the D2 motorway. There's not much to Dubnica nad Vahom as such, apart from a local disco and couple of pubs, but you're not expected to leave your room much :)
Disclaimer: Both of us could speak Czech, which the Slovaks cope with ok, so we haven't really tested the staffs ability to speak English.
