“Our Favorite Place on Earth”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 12, 2012

This wine resort will forever hold a special place in our hearts. We traveled there for 3 days/nights on our honeymoon and of all the places in France and Italy we went, this was by far our favorite. You cannot put your finger on it, it is just so special. From pulling up the long driveway and having the staff greet you outside, the decor, the amazing American style plush beds (the only place of all the 4-5 star places we stayed to have a great bed!), the wine tour, the food, the pool, or relaxing in the large beautifully decorated common area. The service and staff here are 5 star (and speak fluent English), and the manager Laura goes out of her way to ensure you are having the best time while there. They have have an amazing chef but there are also fun places to go out to eat to enjoy authentic food. This area is off the tourist track so you really get to soak up the culture. Its a small remote area, but there is plenty to do and explore. We took a few of the hotel's recommendations but our favorite was the 20 mile bike ride (it sounds long but it wasn't too hard) and exploring the area by bike, as well as horse back riding. I highly recommend this place if you are in the area or planning a trip to the Tuscany area. Its a MUST. We are buying the wine back in America and counting down the days to go back!

Room Tip: We chose the cheapest room, but it is still large and luxurious. Go for this one for value.

We stayed mid October , we had a wonderful time . We were welcomed by three lovely members of staff , Laura and a glass of wine each . We had a fantastic room , with a terrace and a view of the vineyards . The bath was huge , double shower and even arm chairs in the bathroom . The bed was comfy too.It was one of the suites and well worth the extra money . The food was excellent , we eat out a lot and that was the best sea bass i have ever had . We also did the wine tour with Laura , it was extremely interesting and the wine tasted great .The cookery lesson was fun and i make a good Ragu now . We spent three days on the beach as the weather was warm and again Laura did not let us down on her lunch recommendation . Overall we had a very relaxing but fun honeymoon and hope to go back in the near future .

This wine resort is amazing. The views are simply breath taking. From beginning to end everything was top notch. Laura was God send and my trip would not have been the same without her. She is so helpful, she organized an one of a kind experience for me and my friend. She gave the best wine tasting I have ever experienced. The staff is so attentive, and they really do cater to your ever whim. If you have the chance to visit Tuscany you can not miss the jewel tucked away in the hills. The rooms are beautiful and the food is better than I have had in some 5 star restaurants. I can't wait to go back.

A beautiful small hotel, breathtaking views, amazing rooms, very comfy beds, delicious food, and to top it all off the best wine tour I've taken to date. A perfect place to relax and escape. I can't wait to return! Very laid back and relaxed, it almost felt like we were staying in a friends villa!

Conti San Bonifacio is just breath taking.

The hotel is charming and the rooms and attention to detail is out of this world. Excellent service and friendly staff. Very grateful to guest services Laura Mendelson for organizing my entire stay and organizing my day trip out on a sail boat – perfect for a special celebration. Highly recommend having the hotel organize on one of the many day trips Conti San Bonifacio has to offer. I also recommend dinner at the hotel and the wines on offer from San Bonifacio

Also appriciate the kind consideration also given to friends that have subsequently stayed at San Bonifacio.
Be prepared to want to extend your stay.

Please feel free to contact me for more information, but if this isn’t enough, I have already referred friends Francisca S to the Hotel and can see their review too!

My boyfriend and I loved Conti di San Bonifacio. While doing a road trip in Tuscany, this was the place where we got to relax and spend great time together. Our room was amazing with a huge bathroom and a great view. The house itself is beautiful - cozy, simple but great taste. The swimming pool has a great view. The staff were 5 stars - very attentative, extremely friendly and helpful. Beside the few discrete times they checked on us at the pool, it was as though no one was there...which was really peaceful. The dinner is a set menu at 45EUR per person, excluding wine. While not cheap, our meal was very good and you get to choose at what time and where you want to dine - anywhere around the garden or in the dining room. They set up a table for you and it is very romantic but also very nice if you are with a group of friends. If you do not want to stay there for dinner, you can always drive to the Hotel's suggested towns/ restaurants around that area or do some research yourself. We only stayed two nights and we didn't leave the hotel as we were needing some rest and sunbathing, and it was the perfect setting for this. Breakfast is quite good though not excellent - everything is fresh. Similarly, if you would like to have lunch there - everything is fresh and tasty but quite simple. On the second night I did the cooking course, on my own - which was fun to learn useful tuscan cooking tips and then my boyfriend and I were served the meal I made for dinner - which we thought was fun. Katia, the cook is great and charming. The whole staff were fantastic, especially Laura - who was very attentative and made our stay very special. We will be back, not doubt about it.

Good points:
- Lovely surroundings, very pretty, quiet.
- Very helpful staff (we got a parking ticket and they kindly offered to arrange payment for us). Unfortunately I have forgotten the name of the Argentinian guy who works there but he was absolutely brilliant - helpful and attentive without being intrusive
- Large bedroom (we were in room 4).

Dinner tip - if you have a car (you need one here really) and you fancy a change from the set dinner, go to the pizzeria in town that is mentioned in the hotel info - either to dine in or to get a takeaway, it's great and they're very friendly.

Bad points:

- Unless you have a car (and even then, unless one of you is prepared to forgo the great wine available in the area) you have no option but to eat at the resort each night, in which case you have to have the 4 course set dinner. Some dishes were good (although not great) but some very disappointing. It would be good to have the option of fewer courses at a lower price (set menu is Euros 45 per head, excl. drinks). My husband and I thought it would be a good idea for the resort to adopt the same style at dinner as they do at breakfast - a large table with assorted local produce laid out for diners to help themselves, perhaps with an optional additional pasta dish. The resort itself offers 'rustic luxury' and we thought the rustic theme would carry over well to evening dining.
- Bathroom products not great, no hair conditioner.
- The decor in our room was a bit dark and the lighting didn't seem very well planned.
- We were surprised that the wine tour of the resort was so pricey (90 Euros per person if I remember correctly). We've been to a few places like this and similar tours have always been provided either free or at a nominal cost.

Aside from the minor issues above we really enjoyed our stay here. The main issue was the dinner as we felt that, as the dining options are so limited, the resort takes advantage of having its guests over a barrel, so to speak.

Room Tip: Rooms in the main house have nicer decor but the other rooms are larger
