“Idyllic Getaway”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 24, 2013

Gorgeous views of turquoise ocean in superb retreat. The hotel is top notch with excellent services and very friendly. Roger and Mercia in the superb dining room both gave personal attention to our meal always going the extra mile for us. There are lovely walks in an otherwise quiet area but viewing the brightly colored fishing boats arrive with the catch in the afternoon creates a bit of a stir as a crowd gathers to comment on the abundance from the ocean. The spa is also well worth a visit with a highly trained and professional staff. Treat yourself to a sea-facing room at this very special hotel! We hope to return for many repeat visits.

Room Tip: The Zoentendal room had a superb view which I would opt for next time.

My husband and I spent the long weekend at the hotel. It was just what we needed - lovely fishing village away from all the hustle and bustle. Lovely walks and the Waenhuiskrans cave is amazing - can only be visited at low tide though. I cannot say enough about the staff. From the managerial staff to the housekeeping to the barmen - all so friendly and accommodating. The view from our sea-facing room was lovely and the food was very good.

Room Tip: Sea-facing if you can

Our family stayed at the Arniston hotel this weekend. We have stayed there before but it was the first time that we took the extended family with. Yet again, Riaan Griesel and his awesome staff made our stay so special. Nothing is ever too much for these people. It was a very busy weekend as it was a long weekend as well as fathers day. They really impressed me with their service. We were greeted with smiles in the mornings and at night when we went to bed, these same smiles wished us a good nights sleep. And when we sat down for the magnificent breakfast in the mornings.... those same smiles were back again. They just kept on going all weekend giving us the best service possible. The food is great, the rooms were stunning and the view absolutely amazing. They made the kids feel very welcome with activities the whole weekend and even assisted when the kids brought a lost puppy back to the hotel! Riaan, well done to you and your team and we will definitely be back!

Room Tip: Sea facing is a must... if available. Some rooms have fire places but even if you cannot get one of...

The hotel is really great. The staff are genuinely friendly and well trained. Everything is in top notch condition.
We booked a special breakaway and on arrival, were upgraded to a sea facing room. The room was very well sized and had a small sitting area with DSTV. The view from the small balcony was onto the Ocean and there was a bright rainbow over it!
Food was excellent, but menu was fairly limited, if staying for longer period. Breakfast has a wide choice of offerings and the quality was of the Highest. Anniston itself was a small village, with only 1 very small shop and while we were told there was another restaurant in the neighboring heritage sight, this was closed.
In fact this is the only drawback, we found - 2 days and most sites and activities around the area have been visited.
If this hotel was in Cape Town you would need to book well in advance to reserve a room.
I strongly recommend this hotel, but unless you want to do nothing, limit to 3 nights.

Beautiful room with spectacular sea views. Had lunch at the restaurant. Also made use of room service for supper.

Made use of the spa. They were very accommodating by staying open later so that I could have a massage. The massage was great.

Lovely breakfast with a great variety to choose from. My favorite was the muesli.

Staff were all friendly and helpful.

The ocean in Arniston (near the Southern most tip of Africa) lies in the unique turquoise colour of the water as well as the peaceful little fishing and holiday village atmosphere. The lack of city lights means the stars are more visible at night and there is more peace and quiet. I love the sea facing rooms - especially on the 2nd floor - of the Arniston Hotel (although in summer i can imagine families would like to be in pool facing rooms perhaps). The spa seems nice too (although I did not have any treatments there). the hotel serves a good breakfast which is included in the price. Only bother during my most recent stay was a corporate team building excercise on the lawn for a short while during the Monday afternoon. It is a bit of a drive from Cape Town, but one could stop in the little town of Napier on the way for a snack...after all they say it is not about getting to the destination alone, the journey there is just as important.

Swambo and I stayed for the weekend and was pleasantly surprised by the 2 breakfasts and dinners we had. On par if not better than some of the top restaurants we have been to - hats off to the chefs! The service staff also deserves to be complimented for their efficiency. The outside of the lift just needs some serious attention.....
