“another awesome stay at Arniston Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 9, 2013

Last visited without kids for a wedding 9 years ago. It was excellent then and remains excellent. family friendly, staff great, good wine and food. bikes are available FOC from reception as are boogie boards. You just book them in and out. Manager was excellent. Sally lovely village, can't recommend it highly enough!

Although the hotel has a long history (read "old") is has been updated and is recommended for anyone that wants a few days (or weeks) in a small coastal village. The hotel has the best view in Arniston, and is right on the main beach (a road separates the hotel lawn from the beach but carries almost no traffic). Rooms are well appointed and spacious. I had a room at the front with a beuatiful view. Thoughtful details included coffee (French press) with rusks, sherry, cotton robes for early-morning lazing on the balcony. The hotel have mountain-bikes available.
We also had dinner in the picturesque village of Kassiesbaai (less than 5 minutes away). The historical fisherman's cottages make great subjects for photography and painting.
The breakfast is excellent.
The hotel also offers a great variety of spa treatments with special massage packages.

Room Tip: The only downside the the close proximity of the function venues to the rooms facing the ocean. The...

The location of this hotel is amazing, the scenery is beautiful and the beaches stunning. The staff were incredibly helpful, nothing was too much trouble for them. When we arrived I was very disappointed when I saw our room as it was not much bigger than my bedroom at home and had to accommodate 2 adults and 2 kids. When we booked in July we were told that they only had pool facing rooms left. I asked reception if there was no other room available, they had one room which was sea facing and absolutely stunning, unfortunately we could only stay there for 3 nights and then had to return to the pool facing room. I am afraid the pool facing room are incredibly hot, they face the afternoon sun, have no through ventilation and are only equipped with a ceiling fan. Sleep was impossible. If we had been booked in for longer I would have considered leaving early as the room was so unpleasant. I dont understand how the hotel can be four star with no air cons in any of the rooms ( even sea facing ).

I also have to agree with other reviewers regarding the restaurants. The bistro side which was more open air was often fully booked for supper even if you went early, by people not even staying at the hotel. The restaurant on the other side of the hotel is reserved for hotel guests but you cannot sit outside. The bar was very noisy and crowded most days, again but people who were not residents of the hotel. There are no other places to eat in Arniston so hotel residents don't have much choice.

So overall the food was good, scenery was amazing but if we went again I would only stay in a sea facing room and wouldn't go in December again.

Room Tip: Sea Facing only. If you have kids book two rooms as they are small.

We had the only room left, pool facing with west sun. Exstremely hot in afternoon, cannot stay in room or sit on balcony. Aircon is really a must for this 4star hotel.

Service is excellent and the staff works very long hours and remain consistant and friendly and treat you like old friends and family.

Unfortunately it is very buzy over Xmas and new year. We often wanted to sit on the bistro patio for a drink or sundowner, but every day it was full or fully booked by people from outside the hotel. This is dissapointing as we as hotel guests do not have any other place to go for lunch or drinks but the bistro and then its fully booked? It really seems the hotel is in need of an exstra restaurant.

Kids activities can do with more creativity. Kids room also lack age appropriate activities and it seems more like a room for teens than for families with kids between ages 4 and 8. Often the movies shown is not age appropriate for kids, which is baffling as it is suppose to be for the kids while the parents can enjoy dinner.

The spa was lovely and well worth a visit.

The pool area is clean with excellent service.

The beach in front of the hotel is suberb for ocean views, sunbathing and rockpools for the kids to fish in.

Overall a place I will come back to but: need a sea facing room, need to bring kids their own movies and dvd player, need to order room service as bistro will be full again.

When looking for a quaint beautiful off the beaten track venue there is no place quite like Arniston/Waenhuiskrans. We keep coming back and dream of more time here. The Arniston Spa Hotel has blown me away this visit. The staff are amazing and the service is incredible Even at its busiest there is always someone around to tend to your every need. I could not think of a better place to take young kids for a holiday. Well done to all the staff. You are great

We stayed here over Xmas for 5 nights. The room are nicely fitted and clean. It was very hot and this 4 star hotel does not have air conditioning!!!!! The room was like an oven when we returned to it in the evening and even with all the windows and doors open, the ceiling fan at full speed, the room stayed uncomfortably hot for the rest of the night.
