“Cant wait to return to this lovely Mexican hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 20, 2013

Found this hotel walking the beach from Barra to Melacque (no , its not in Puerto Vallarta) and was charmed. Excited to find bungalows with full kitchens and monthly rates, its no surprise they can be booked 2 yrs in advance in the high season.
Long walk up to our 4th floor room, but the panoramic view of Melacque and the ernormous surf is worth every step expended. When windy, we sat in the lounges by the lagoon, which is beautiful. Good restaurant and store onsite, many close by, Villa Obregon (where the hotel really is) is a charming place. Bus into Melacque or Barra a 4 block walk, easy access to shopping/entertainment.
Beds have foam toppers, very comfortable, toaster, coffee maker and blender included in the kitchen as well as a full range and family size fridge :)
Highly recommend this property!

We stayed at our friend's home which is a few blocks from this property. However, the restaurant located in the resort quickly became a nightly stop. The food was very good and is a really, really good value. We would usually luck out and get a table next to the rail which provides the perfect spot to watch the most gorgeous sunsets! After dinner we would walk over to the pool-side bar for a nightcap. We would sit on the edge of the pool and chat while enjoying the perfect margarita.

Laguna was a good base for us to use. Rooms were clean, beds good and firm. We had a room with kitchenette, fridge was frost free and we were very pleased. Had a great view from kitchen, balcony or bathroom. :) Pool was great, kids loved to cool off in it after long day at the beaches we visited. No problems but sure if we had one it would have been taken care of by the friendly and efficient staff.
If you stay in Melaque etc you know that the waves pound the shore pretty good, took us a day but got use to the noise at night. Beach in front of hotel is great to look at but prior knowledge suggested we do our beach time elsewhere. Everyone who went into the surf right in front of the hotel "got out" quick. Go to either barra or west Melaque for better area for kids.

This property is not an all inclusive or fancy property, but it's decent accommodations, with friendly staff. The location is great, as it's right on the beach, and the price is right.
The owners and family along with family friends all work here, and host lots of celebrations at the property, which they will sometimes invite you to.
This was my first trip, but my family has been staying at this property for the last 4 years and really enjoy it. One thing you will notice is there are a lot of regulars that come back every year and everyone in the town seems quite friendly.

One thing to note though is it can be loud at times. Lots of people celebrating birthdays, Christmas and new years; but I think it calms down a bit after NYE. As well its very family friendly so you will notice lots of kids around the pool, but there is space on the deeper end for the adults.
As noted by someone else, the windows don't close so you will need to adjust to the waves, as they are loud. Getting in and out of the ocean can also be a bit tricky until you master the technique.
And if you drive there, not all the roads are well paved, or at all, so prepare to drive slow.

Other quick notes,
-beds can be a bit firm
-hotel offers wireless but it can be intermittent unless you are by the office.
-Owners daughter runs a small taco stand outside the property if you get hungry
-There are lots of small restaurants in the area. Some good ones are Rula's (although pricey has great service) Roosters offers good breakfast, and so does La Terraza.
- There is a fresh fruit truck that comes by every day that you can purchase from.

Over all it's a nice place for those not expecting the all inclusive experience, and maybe want to make friends and feel more connected with the community. If you want to have a 'touristy' day you can also take a walk down the beach or take a taxi to Bara De Navidad where they have more bars/clubs and a high end resort. Or you can just go into the main square in Melaque.

Was here for two weeks visiting with my girlfreinds parents. They were staying in the RV camping area in the hotel compound.

The place was nice enough and the staff freindly. I had a good stay there. It was on the beach, the pool was good and overall it was clean. There is wireless internet near the office.

Bad parts are noise. The rooms have open windows with screens only . There are as many cars, trucks and tour busses as they can pack in the back RV area. Diesel engines are left running and are noisey at ALL times day or night. I went out a couple of times and asked for the driver to shut the engine off. Same with car alarms. Loud arguments could be heard early in the morning over people being blocked in by the pile of cars.

Noisey in the hotel too, as the open windows into the hallway pick up every sound. One morning at SEVEN am children started banging on pots and pans and screaming. My girlfriend got up and went over and pounded on the door to be heard. The woman calmed her children when asked. Why did they think that was ok?

The restaurant isn't super but is right in the hotel. The strange part is, the family that owns the hotel has a taco/tamale stand right outside the front gate. The food is GREAT and CHEAP. Seems to burn the restaurant. There was a little store too, Why would I pay more for beer at the restaurant? It was cheap at the store. Not sure if they will stay in business.

Everyones attitude seems to be "yeah whatever". They are friendly and quite nice but could seem to care less about arrangements. When we were checking out they didn't take into account our deposit. My GF had to come back to the room to ask me how much I had paid in advance. Then she went back and the staff adjusted the amount but didn't take into account the US exchange. We had to ask for that too. They did do that for us but it seems you have to ask for EVERYTHING to be done right.

The place must be typical of Mexico. Nice people but pretty slack. Despite these things I did like it. Some people may not.

  • Liked — Location on the ocean
  • Disliked — Noise, Lazy Administration

We just find this place to the time because we didn't know where to go. We had a reception near construction. The room was ok but smell discusting. The bed not very confortable. The view is very good. The noice of the waves were very loud and we can't sleep very well. For the price is very good because it was very cheap. The road to go to the hotel is very bad, The city is not very exciting at this time. Alot's of hotel and shop are closed.

  • Liked — The location close to the sea
  • Disliked — The smell in the room and the fact that it wasn't very safe because the windows didn't close

We have stayed at the Laguna del Tule every February for the last 6 years . The owners Fidel and Blanca are very gratious hosts .
For the last 4 years we have brought our friends to stay at Laguna and they have become regulars. This part of Mexico along with the great people and great dining ,is becoming very popular among American and Canadian tourists . We would highly recommend theBungalows Laguna del Tule and the towns of Melaque and Barra de Navidad for a relaxing holiday

  • Liked — The rooms were clean and well looked after , also they were very spacious
  • Disliked — nothing that I can think of
