“Bit of a disappointment!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 23, 2012

Went for a family meal at Bremner's at the Craigellachie hotel last night and have to say we were a bit disappointed. Having been there in the past, we were looking forward to our evening. We had booked a table for 8. Five of us ordered the haddock, chips and peas. When this was served (after a fairly lengthy wait) we were told that they'd run out of peas!!!!! In a hotel of this quality, I would not expect this to happen. Not only did we not get our peas, we weren't even offered another vegetable or salad in their place! To be fair, the food was of its usual high standard (not cheap though). We also had to go and ask for our side order of chips which had been forgotten about. We weren't offered, but had to ask for, the dessert menu but by that time we were really fed up waiting and decided not to bother. The sole waiter was rushed off his feet as the restaurant was busy and he had little or no help to run the bar either. I would go back as a couple - they seemed to get served more quickly! - as I know it really is a warm, comfortable and pleasant eating experience but surely on a busy Saturday evening, there should be more staff on duty!

Thanks for taking the time to send in your comments and I am sorry that your evening was not as you expected. The bar was much busier than we’d anticipated which led to delay in service you experienced and us running out of some items. There are no excuses, alternatives should have been offered and support for my man on the bar should have been forthcoming and I’m sorry they weren’t.

Next time you visit, let me know and I’ll ensure you’re well looked after as you will be aware this is by no means our usual standard of service.

We had a two night stay at the hotel and we weren't disappointed. On the Friday night we had a six whisky tasting with Steffan who was extremely knowledgeable and made the tasting very relaxed - we would heartily recommend this. Our room was very large, comfortable, clean and surprisingly quiet. We ate in both the restaurant and the bar and the meals in both were very tasty. For cyclists/walkers there is the Speyside Way which you can access from just outside the hotel and the route we took to Ballindalloch was beautiful with stunning views along the way (just remember the midge repellent).

So pleased you enjoyed your visit. Craigellachie and Speyside has so much to offer many people whatever the reason for their visit. Your kind comments will certainly be passed to Steffan and the rest of the team.

Per other reviews, this hotel has definitely seen better days. We had an upgraded room which was entirely adequate - bed wasn't very comfortable (too hard for us) but spacious room with nice seating area. Staff were very helpful and breakfast was decent. Overall, I think there are better places to stay in the area for the money. The bar with the huge selection of whisky is neat - if you can find someone to serve you (and they don't spill part of the pour on the counter). The pub across the street has a great selection of ales and good pub grub.

Whilst I may have a slight bias I would not agree that there are better places to stay in the area. The Craigellachie hotel is unique in many ways and the style of the furnishings go some way to ensuring this is maintained. I am sorry you appear to have had difficulty getting served in the bar and can assure others reading this that this is certainly not our usual standard of service.

Recently returned from a short break at the Craigellachie hotel. Our room was clean and comfortable and was of a good size. The staff were very attentive especially the girls in the dining room. Due to a dietary requirement I had to change some of the listed menue options. This was no problem and was always dealt with quickly so may thanks to the girls especially Sini who was always very helpfull. The dining room food was was excellent as was the breakfast. Previous reviews have said the hotel was dated and required some attention, we woud disagree. The style is old country manor with a large drawing room and a library both with open fires. The down stairs barman was friendly and we were always greeted with a smile.
An excellent small hotel which we would recommend. Thanks for a lovely stay.

Room Tip: Rooms on the garden side are quiter. The downstairs bar has a relaxed atmosphere and there is a poo...

Recently returned from short break to Craigellachie Hotel. Can only reiterate what others have said. Furnishings could do with updating but only adds to the olde worlde charm. Reception staff very friendly and helpful, check in no problem. Dining room food excellent, staff very attentive and helpful. Rooms spotlessly clean though somewhat dated. All in all a very nice hotel for a short break.

Room Tip: Front of hotel quieter, away from road.

We wanted somewhere for a family meal. Even with a limited number of options on the menu, it was difficult to choose which to have. The service from the staff was excellent and attentive and the food superb. Thank you.

As the type of room we requested when we made our booking was unavailabe we were given an upgrade to a suite. It was beautiful with a four poster bed and very comfortable seating. The room also had lovely views over the hills. The staff were very helpful and friendly. Dinners were good but given the obvious talent of the chef we felt that the menu could change a little more often. Our only other complaint was that the breakfast room was very tired and in need of renovation. This was our fourth visit and it certainly won,t be our last.

Room Tip: Rooms at the front are much quieter.
