“Great Hotel!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 4, 2013

We stayed here for 2 nights on our way down the coast from Playas del Coco to Samara. The hotel and service here are top notch. Upon arrival we were greeted with a refreshing smoothie and an awesome lunch (try the fresh tuna melt). There is a great little pool right in the middle of the very lush courtyard that was nice and felt great to jump in and cool down. The room was cozy and the bed the most comfortable we had out of our 3 hotels. Bathroom is basic but clean and has all the necessities you need. Breakfast was good and we really enjoyed the fresh baked bread, coffee, and juices. We opted to pay for the $2 breakfast special each day, one day pancakes the other eggs and gallo pinto, both were tasty. Dinner was fantastic and we couldn’t stop talking about how good the guacamole was (best we had in Costa Rica). We booked a snorkel sunset cruise through the hotel on Seabird and had a great time. I highly recommend going. The bartender David invited my girlfriend and I to a big beach party later that night and we had a great time hanging with him and his local friends. Simon and Hilda were very accommodating and we really felt like we were at home. If you are considering visiting the Brasilito/Conchal area and want an intimate, affordable, place to stay I would recommend staying at the Conchal Hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the road.

You enter a tropical paradise, flowering plants all around. Then you are welcomed by Simon and Hilda who treat you like family. Fruit picked fresh everyday, tasting nothing like our market selections, sweet and juicy. Relaxing in the upstairs shade or sun poolside. Everyone making sure to fulfill your every need. Costa Rica laid back lifestyle. You can't get better than this.

Room Tip: Rooms 1&2 are the best, farther from civilization.

Myself and my fiance have stayed at Conchal Hotel often. We generally travel the countryside while in Costa Rica, and love to start our holiday here. We usually stay 2 to 5 nights here. This is a hotel like no other, the ambiance is very loving and charming. We love to start our day with breakfast upstairs, drinking coffee and checking our email. Hanging out in the gardens and swimming in the pool is so relaxing. The evening meals here are outstanding, and very personal. The rooms reflect an intimate style and feel so tropical. Simon and Hilda have become very dear to us, such gentle souls they are. We have chosen Conchal Hotel and Simon and Hilda for our wedding.

Brasilito is a small community and affords us the experience of the culture of Costa Rica. Conchal Beach is our very favorite place in the entire country!

We stayed at Conchal Hotel for a week over Christmas 2012. Such an awesome and relaxing place and in a very laid-back area of Costa Rica. Ideal if you want a quiet getaway. The food was the best we had in the country and Simon and Hilda were awesome hosts. Look no further.

We just spent six relaxing days at the Conchal Hotel, and it was just what the doctor ordered. Simon and Hilda are genial, accommodating hosts who provide a laid back, extremely comfortable experience at their cozy little hotel. The most striking feature is the tropical garden
(a beautiful contrast to the scrubby vegetation of the Guanacaste coast) that surrounds the pool in the central courtyard, which is ideal for cooling off and unwinding after a day at the beach. If you check out some of the older pictures on their TA review page, you can see how much work they've put into it over the years.

Our room was spacious with ample shelf space, a large shower with plenty of hot water and pressure, and a huge, very comfortable bed. The only drawback was that parts of the room were dark, especially around the closet, so it would definitely benefit from another light or two.

The complementary breakfast provided a good start to the day with coffee, tea and a variety of fresh fruit, juices, cereal, and delicious homemade breads (be sure to try the banana muffins--yum!). If you're especially hungry, for $2 you can add, depending on the day, gallo pinto with eggs, an omelet, or pancakes. If you're staying there on a Saturday, the seafood BBQ is an absolute must. They just began doing it, and for $25 you get all the rock lobster, shrimp, fish, and chicken you can eat, along with baked potatoes and a variety of salads. As an added bonus, Simon speared many of the fish himself, so they were about as fresh as it gets.

Other benefits to staying here is the hotel's proximity to the only ATM in town and Super Lopez, which is the largest and best stocked grocery in Brasilito.

If you're planning to spend time in Brasilito, this is definitely the place to do it, and we look forward to staying there again.

We stayed here last week for one night on our 10 day coast to coast stay in Costa Rica. The propery is small with very little view. the place itself is very quaint. It would be much better if this place was set back into the rainforest about a few hundred feet because it's right on the main road. Hilda and Simon were soooo nice and accomodating. We were greeted with a beer upon check in. There is a little hangout room with hammocks and chairs to unwind with a drink of your choice. We were able to enjoy the pool for a little while. The best part of this place is the closeness to playa conchal. we drove there and to get to playa conchal you have to drive a road on the beach which we thought was really cool.

... because it makes me wish I was back at Hotel Conchal! My wife and I stayed there for 7 nights for our honeymoon. We did not want to leave. We had room #1. Some of the reviews mention hearing road noise, but we didn't experience a problem with this in the least. During the day the road can be a bit loud, but after sunset I didn't notice a thing.

The rooms are well appointed and clean. Amenities include: A/C that nearly froze us out of the room the first night, fridge, nice flat screen TV, good cable TV, room safe, and a nice flat-screen computer in the room (who thinks of including that in a hotel room?!). The king-sized bed was average, a bit firm and seemed to sag a bit, but honestly we slept so well I can hardly complain. The free WiFi worked well and was much appreciated.

The owners, Simon and Hilda, were extremely nice and offered fascinating conversation. They also made great suggestions on tours and were really helpful when we needed it. Their staff was also great, with extra kudos to David, who was very nice. Hilda is an EXCELLENT chef. If you don't catch a dinner in Papaya, the restaurant on the property, then you're really missing out. The guacamole was so amazing that we got an order every day. The 5-spice lobster was also mind-blowing. Here's a secret: Hilda wrote a cookbook. We can't wait to get our hands on copy or two.

I've got to be honest, the town and beach of Brasilito, about a 5 minute walk from the hotel, was a bit off-putting for me at first. The shops are simple and the roads are dusty and/or muddy. But by the second day the town had really grown on me as I began to appreciate the authenticity and simplicity. The food at Soda Langosta Loca was so good that we visited a second time, despite the chickens running around the restaurant. The beach was huge and largely deserted, which we learned to appreciate as well! Playa Conchal is maybe a 10 minute walk down the beach to the left, but well worth the walk. It is much more crowded, but one of the most interesting beaches I've ever visited.

Other highlights of our trip included visits to: Playa Danta (fantastic), Point Break Surf Lessons at Playa Grande (awesome), dinner at Mar y Sol in Flamingo (maybe a top ten in my life), Playa Flamingo (pretty beach but we didn't like it much due to the crowd, loud music, jet skis, and other typical resort stuff), Arenal Volcano with Tabacon hot springs (wow), Palo Verde river boat cruise (a lot of fun), and a sunset sailboat cruise where we saw humpback whales! Make sure you get Eduardo's card. He's the local taxi driver and he drove us all around the area.

We can't wait to make another visit to Hotel Conchal.
