“Absolutely amazing hotel, I would highly recommend it!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 30, 2010

We stayed at the Kalithea Horizon Royal from the 15th-26th June 2010 and after searching many hotels and resorts, we chose this hotel as it was my 30th birthday and we wanted something special.

When we arrived at the hotel, we received a warm welcome. We were then transfered to our room, where we found water, soft drinks, beer and fruit waiting for us when we arrived. We booked a standard room, which was situated by the main pool and it was very clean and tidy and had a sea view. We then went to explore the hotel complex and were very impressed, it looks even better than the photos and the view from the main pool out to sea took our breath away.

At our welcome meeting with the Thompson rep Keily, we explained that it was my Birthday and that we had also just got engaged. Keily arranged for us to be upgraded to a superior room free of charge! We transfered to our superior room a couple of days later. The room was closer to the pool and was more modern than the standard room and we were very happy with it, although the standard room is also nice, if I was to return I would book a superior room.

The hotel complex is quite large, but if you are not used to walking, or it is too hot, you can call reception and they will send an mini bus of golf buggy within minutes.

We found the hotel staff to be very helpful and friendly. The food from the buffet was very nice and varied, meaning that you had a chance to try new foods and eat as much as you like! The beer, wine, water and soft drinks were also on tap so that you could help yourself, you could also order drinks from the waiters & waitresses.

The Al a carte restaurant was very nice, set with beautiful views and beautiful food.
We chose to have our Al a carte meal the night before my birthday and the hotel also surprised me with champagne at midnight which was a very special touch. Our rep Keily also arranged for a bottle of champagne and cake to be delivered to our room on the morning of my birthday, which was lovely.

The variety of the hotel is brilliant. The 3 main pools are beautiful and they even have a jacuzzi that looks out to sea. There is also a indoor pool with jacuzzi near the main reception.

I would recommed this hotel to anybody, it was truly amazing. They even had fireworks on our last night which were truly magical.

We would also recommed visiting the Kalithea Springs, Rhodes Town & Lindos.

Booked with thomson pictures looked good hadnt had a holiday in a year due to work, reviews all said it was brilliant so booked without hesitation.

Arrived late at night, given key and info about food but no map. we booked in the Kalithea Horizon Royal but EVERYTHING in our room said Kalithea Mare Palace so we were very confused. Apparantly its a double shared resort?? Still confused.

Food was buffet style which was...OK. My partner eats meat and she said the quality of meat was not good, with only one or two dishes being good enough to eat. Me being vegetarian i struggled the whole time with anything to eat, unless it was chips chips salad salad and pizza here and there if they felt like not putting meat on it. FLIES!!! were a big problem on the desserts laid out, on the bread, constantly squating them away...i felt like more of a cave troll trying to protect my horde. The indoor restaurant is much better than the outdoor for flies, but then you dont get those beautiful views you paid for!

As for the views and pool area and pool bar, no complaints it was beautiful, clean, drinks when you want in the day. However getting hold of water was difficult short of running down to the pool area or to the bar which was quite a walk from where we were put. The rooms mini bar wasnt filled until the last day even though we told reception so it was kind of pointless! Bars at night were good, entertainment was ok two of the 6 nights we stayed.

And yes the resort is full of germans. The smell of sewage wasnt a problem as we only noticed it whilst walking to the pools or beach in the day briefly. There was no smell of anything near the pools or beach apart from fresh air, sun, fun and suncream.

BE AWARE!
Pool towel costs 10 euro (refundable pending whether you lose it or not)
Safe key cost 15 euro (non refundable)
Memorise you room number because you will be asked before you do anything!
25 euros if you want to keep your room if you have a late flight (normal checkout at noon!)

Staff were helpful and not rude!! Holiday rep was useless, she said she would slide a letter under our door 2 days before we had to leave for coach transfer times. Nothing was given we had to scurry around to find out ourselves luckily we did!

If you would ask me would i go again i'd said..maybe. But not all inclusive, because i dont fancy eating chips for a week. ( ive recommened to a friend beacuse everyone seems to have different experiances)

We stayed for 10 day in early June. No complaints, the room was large for Greek hotels, the balcony was large with views over one of the pool areas and the sea. Food and drinks you could not fault, always too much to choose from. We personally liked eating at the greek taverna open air restaurant in the evenings and using the BBQ. Every where was ultra clean, the cleaning staff were for ever cleaning the public areas. Nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff, they were always friendly and helpfull. I would not hesitate in recommending this hotel and hope to visit it again soon.

We stayed in this hotel for 2 weeks and it was one of the best holidays we ever had.

The hotel has a magnificent location, right at sea and it's very easy to go to Rhodos city or any place you want to go from the hotel on.

There are 3 outdoor swimming pools (and they are big!) and 1 indoor swimming pool.

There are several bars and restaurants as well and the cocktails are really good!

The complete area is well maintained and there are beautiful gardens!

If you really want a relaxing time on holiday, this hotel is definitely the one you need to book!

We stayed for 2 weeks AI at this hotel last year. It was brilliant: modern, luxury, spacious, clean rooms, wonderful hotel surrounding, very good restaurants and bars, and an outrageous, fantastic hotel crew / team. With these waitresses and waiters (last year these were e.g. Alexandra, Triantafyllos etc.) it's been absolutely the best holidays we've ever had in Greece! It's a year ago now we've been there but just unforgettable...

4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 18, 2010

Just returned from a week at Hotel Kalithea Horizon Royal. Had a good holiday and the weather was HOT!! In general the hotel is very nice but some things could be improved. I'd actually have given the hotel 3,5 stars, if it'd been possible (but then decided it was more 4* than 3*). I'll list the pros and cons here, hopefully you will find it useful:

Pros:

+ amazing views, the hotel is wonderfully located right next to the sea
+ the area and the rooms are very clean and tidy, rooms are cleaned every day
+ plenty of sunbeds
+ nice salads etc and lunch and dinner, and a great breakfast
+ you can have a massage outdoors, gived by a Hawaijian man. The massage was wonderful, he was great!
- a nice jacuzzi with a wonderful view

Cons:

- the area is too big, when the hotel is full there are 2500 guests (some are in the neighbouring hotel but they are basically the same company), so the place is not "homey" at all
- the food is ok, but very repetitive, didn't quite understand why pizza and chips had to be served at every meal... Have been at a much better all inclusive.
- Some of the waiters and other staff members were very nice and friendly, but not all. Some looked liked they would much rather be somewhere else. At the main bar Helios the service was often slow and sometimes rather impolite.
- You could not help yourself to the snacks etc. in the pool bar, but had to ask the waiter to give you what you wanted. I found this a little bit annoying.
- The daytime entertainment is practically inexistent. I took part in the water aerobics once but it was TERRIBLE and lasted maybe 10 minutes. I was told there would be aerobics at 4.30 (lasting only 15 mins but still...), so well before that I went to my room and put trainers etc on. When I got to the place, I was told we had to wait to see if others show up. At 4.40 the girl said that because I was the only guest present they would not have the aerobics and that I should try again the following day... I found that rather disappointing, they should do it in any case, no matter how many people take part. I've been at a hotel where there were nice fitness classes daily (lasting 45 mins each), so this was very disappointing to me.
- The evening entertainment is mainly on a small stage in one corner, it's difficult to get a seat unless you arrive very early. The quality of the shows was rather low sometimes.
- We were not informed of anything when we arrived and the information leaflet in the room was useless. If I hadn't read about the pool towels etc. here in Tripadvisor, we wouldn't have known anything about them. It was also difficult to know what kind of food is offered where and when.
- One a la carte visit is included in the All inclusive, we had it on the last night but it was a big disappointment. The setting and the decorations are very nice and the waiters friendly, but the food practically comes from the buffet!! It was even a bit cold when it got to the table, and definitely NOTHING special. We would have preferred the buffet, as we saw the same things there anyway...
- lots of flies around the restaurant, and mosquitos in the evening

That's about it... Quite a few cons too, but if you are just looking for a nice hotel with a good view, then you will not be disappointed. We will probably not be going back, even though we did have a good time.
