“2nd Fantastic Stay at Gwel an Mor”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 30, 2014

Just returned from our second fantastic family holiday at Gwel an Mor. We originally booked for 4 nights but stayed on an extra night as we were enjoying ourselves so much. The lodges are very large with plenty or room for us and 3 children, and very well equipped. The balcony had a fantastic view of the sea, and we went for a VIP lodge so had a nice hot-tub and wood burner.

There is plenty of space within the estate for the kids to safely play, and the pool and health club are of a very high quality. We went on 2 hour evening wildlife walk (which turned into 3 hours) and learnt a lot from the very enthusiastic guide, and got to hand feed tame foxes and meet a fox cub. Thoroughly recommended. All the staff are very friendly and helpful.

The village of Portreath is a lovely 10 minute walk through the farm and woodland path (15 minutes uphill back), with an excellent beach and a couple of nice pubs and a few small shops. The location is well situated to explore the south and west of Cornwall but most of the major attractions can be reached within an hour by car. The kids hardly touched their 'i-gadgets' all week which is exactly what we wanted from a family holiday!

Like other reviewers have said we rarely stay in the same place twice as there is so much to explore, but we will definitely be back at Gwel an Mor soon and use it as a base to continue to explore Cornwall.

We have recently returned from Gwel an Mor and had a truly wonderful time. We stayed in a Lowena wooden lodge which had 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. The lodge provided plenty of room for our family of 4 (2 children 13yrs and 5 yrs old). It had lots of extras such as a dishwasher (tablets provided), washing machine, books and games also. Considering we were in the most basic lodge we would not have known. All the added extras were very much appreciated including wine, tea, coffee, biscuits etc!

The lodge had a balcony with table and chairs with sea views and downstairs off the master bedroom there are French doors leading to a decked area with furniture where we enjoyed many a breakfast!

The site is spotless and very quiet, the pool is a good size with a jacuzzi, steam room, sauna and gym. We also used the tennis courts for a small charge. The spa is a must also and treatments are reasonably priced. All the staff are very friendly and couldn't do enough to help. There is also a restaurant on site but we didn't eat there as we would tend to eat in the lodge.

On the site is a farm and there is a very lovely walk down to Portreath bay which is beautiful but this would be more difficult for people with walking difficulties or if you have a child in a pushchair as it is hilly.

We cannot wait to return there and would highly recommend staying at Gwel an Mor for a lovely relaxing holiday!

Needless to say - we love Gwel an Mor!
We are a family of 2 ads & 3 ch - (11,9 & 7) - this was our 3rd Easter week at Gwel an Mor and we ( along with 2 other families) have booked for Easter 2015. I would like to add that we are not a family that usually go somewhere more than once.
There are a number of reasons why we continue to return:
- the lodges are fabulous - spotlessly clean & equipped as a real home from home.
- the location - every year we have discovered new beaches to explore.
- happy kids - Gary & everyone at Feadon Nature Centre are incredible - a decision has been made to go for "the night-time wildlife experience" for next year.
- happy & relaxed parents - a great base for day trips across Cornwall, having a pool onsite & close to the lodges is fab & if you don't fancy getting in the car, walk down the hill to Portreath beach for rock pooling / body boarding / fish & chips or all 3!
Already looking forward to Easter 2015!

My 2 children, myself & my husband stayed for 4 nights at a Tregea vip lodge. The lodge was pristine, & very homely. Board games & books set on a lovely table, everything you could need in the kitchen, including a bottle of wine in the fridge! Very nice after a long car journey. The woodburner had plenty of logs, & it was lovely after a session in the hot tub! (Wood burner & hot tub only available in vip lodges i believe)...lollies on the childrens pillows, very sweet! Lovely amount of towels, including robes for the adults for the hot tub. The restaurant was lovely, & the food was exceptional. A takeaway service was an added extra on holiday. If you can't be bothered to cook & don't wish to go out, dinner is brought to you! Tennis was so much fun, & if I am to be honest, perhaps it would be nicer not to have to pai extra for that? But perhaps there is a reason for the charge. Not a complaint, just an observation. The whole experience was lovely, my kids didn't want to leave! Nice & quiet, lovely sea views. Defo will come again.

Had the most wonderful week, you couldn't ask for more! Definately recommend the rock pooling and meeting the farm animals, Gary was extremely knowledgable and the children loved patting the reindeer and feeding Todd and Copper the foxes ! Great location for Eden project (1hr) St Ives (30mins) Lands End (45mins) . Great for relaxing and lots of activities , plus the views are amazing . Can also really recommend the restaurant , excellent food .

Stayed for a 4 day break , beautiful lodge , spotless , all we needed was there , will definitely return but possibly in summer months , weather was slightly wet but lodge was warm and cosy, hot tub was a bonus for hubby and son , they also used the pool in the clubhouse , our dog loved his holiday as well , he never goes upstairs at home but here he had to because of the lounge being on the 1st floor , he managed to get up them eventually

We have just returned from a wonderful weekend in a 3 bed Tregea VIP lodge. The reception staff were friendly and helpful at checkin and we went straight to our lodge. The lodge was lovely. Very clean, 3 good sized bedrooms and 2 nice bathrooms downstairs and a nice open planned living area upstairs. Modern furnishing, well supplied kitchen and views of the sea. The wood burner was fab we didn't need any heating on and it was nice that they supplied a basket of logs with the lodge. There was also. Bottle of wine in the fridge which was a nice touch. The children loved the swimming pool, and play park and the animals on Feadon farm were a big hit. We didn't pay to go in but had a little wander around the public paths and saw the goats, reindeers, chickens and donkeys. We were very happy to have paid slightly extra for a hot tub, more than worth it in our opinion. It was Mother's Day while we were there so we booked to eat in the Terrace restaurant. The food was lovely but the waiting staff could have been a bit friendlier and more pro- active in serving! We were sat straight away, waited 10 minutes for someone to take a drinks order, another 10 to order food and had to find someone to order a second drink, pay the bill etc. It was a shame as the place was lovely, just a bit more training and enthusiasm from the waiting staff, needless to say they didn't get a tip but we did enjoy the food.

Portreath is quite possibly the most bizarre coastal village that we have been to. Harbour, beach, old cottages and a 1970's housing estate in the middle of it all? Not what we were expecting and wouldn't be rushing back to visit there but we would definitely stay at Gwel an mor again as there are so many beautiful places nearby. Godreavy beach cafe was a hit with us all, amazing cakes after a walk on the beach and a spot of Rockpooling! All in all a fab break in lovely accommodation :-)
