“Not for a family stay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 26, 2013

I would not recommend this hotel for a family stay even if the service is good, the size of the standard room is not suitable. On top of the door of the the room at the ground floor with garden view are transparent !!
The swimming pool is inside the SPA which is not suitable for both, kids and for adults.

The location is also not suitable is you are coming for riding because almost of the good spot are 30 min far away as the city is in the center of the valley.

the service is good..nevertheless 5 stars is inappropriate.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 28, 2013

Having spent a week staying in some very good hotels we were looking forward to Villa Paulita as it had been personally recommended by friends. The position is beautiful on the lake and we were fortunate to enjoy clear blue skies which enhanced the overall impression. Reception staff were excellent and we were upgraded to a room on the first floor of the new block in the garden. First impressions were good but with one design feature that was just plain ridiculous...a sliding glass wall for the bathroom? Whoever thought that was a good idea? The money spent on that feature would have been far better spent on sound-proofing the walls and then I would have been spared listening to our neighbours using the loo and, later on, snoring loudly!
The pool area and spa was beautiful and I can imagine this being lovely after a day on the slopes. Bar prices were far too high and a small water in the room 3.5 euros? We elected not to take the 19 euro continental breakfast instead visiting "Aroma" in the town, a 5 minute walk away where we had freshly squeezed orange, fantastic coffee and a range of pastries etc for 15 euros for 2.
I understand that putting in a costly spa has to see a return but think they are a little over-ambitious with their pricing structure, we would have used the restaurant in the evening but decided against for the same reason and found a Tap de Suro instead. They are #1 on tripadvisor and with good reason.

Excellent location near the centre of Puigcerda, we booked this hotel as a special price package for Easter weekend. The hotel itself was nice, clean, the staff excellent and according to the wife the pool was good. Breakfast very nice and plentiful. It is supposed to be 5 star and I'm not sure about that, the room was pretty small for a double, the heating was oppressive and foolishly they let designers rule over common sense in one regard, who on earth puts a plate glass window in the bathroom wall. I'm sure my family loves me but even they would not want to see me at my morning ablutions.
None the less this was a nice hotel and excellent value for money.

Room Tip: Top floor in main building was way too hot, we slept with windows open and heating turned right down...

4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 31, 2013

We booked this place having seen the good and not so good reviews of the hotel. Many questioned the 5 star rating and I guess we'd have to do the same but there are so many positives.
We had a superior room on the first floor of the Villa. At 320Eu per night it was without a doubt expensive, even with the excellent standard of decoration and quality of fittings. But then again we had a lot of space, the views of the lake and the mountains were fantastic, and after all this is a spa as well, which always inflates the price of a stay. The bed was 5 star quality. The bathroom came close although the shower was poorly positioned over the bath, it was one of those microphone like shower heads, and lacked power. I would expect a little better for the 5 star experience. The only real let down was the wireless connectivity. It was just plain rubbish, and just as well it was free. It was slow and it would drop the connection frequently. The cellular signal was equally bad on both Voda and Movistar. So if you just "have" to be connected, you'll have difficulty relaxing here.
The restaurant LÉstany is very good. We enjoyed lunch and dinner there. Excellent food and equally excellent wines. Breakfast was in the same place, and while I prefer a self service buffet, it was very busy and was frequently running out of everything, especially the excellent croissants. It seems there just weren't enough people working there to keep up with the pace of guests munching their way through breakfast before a day on the slopes. The Nespresso coffee machines were a bonus. If you like your coffee your way, you have everything at your fingertips to prepare your brew as you like it.
There was a 17Eu per night parking charge, which we didn't know about until we got there. This is Puigcerda, its not like there's space to park outside, so parking underground is essential...so I guess that's why they feel they can charge again for it. Then again if we'd known the room was 337Eu per night, we might have decided to stay somewhere else.
The spa was very good, if a little crowded. If you're not a skier its worth taking advantage before 6pm. We enjoyed the massages very much, and the steam room, and the pool. It's all indoors and underground so useable all year around.
Would we come again? Definitely, but would probably look for a deal via one of the web sites rather than booking direct with the hotel.
It seems that the hotel is no longer part of the Hospes group. When we went to book via the Hospes web site it had disappeared. When I called the phone number I was given another to call. While the hotel still currently sports the Hospes livery, the new website is independent of the group. I'm not sure if that's a good thing or bad. We'll continue to monitor Tripadvisor before confirming our next stay.

Room Tip: The rooms in the Villa have the best views.

Booked at last minute for 1 night stay while touring. Chosen because of number of stars and value. The room lived up to its' star rating, exceptionally comfortable with a large bed and super bathroom. The situation of the hotel is superb at the top of the town, next to the lake and a short walk to the main square and restaurants. Our night was room only so we had breakfast at a local cafe, which was throbbing with life on a Monday morning, great ambience. Reception was very helpful. Parking secure and underground was an extra 17Euros for the night and we could have left the car in the street fro free but were concerned about all our sports equipment left in the car. Overall a lovely place to stay and would certainly return there if in the area again.

Superb location by a lake. Firework display viewed from hotel garden on first night. Classy rooms with indoor pool and sauna. Breakfast good but something of a cheek to charge extra for hot items when basic price is already 15 Euros.

The more stars a hotel gets, the more I look at the details to see if they are living up to the standard, like - for example - mould and limescale around the shower enclosure...
Hospes Villa Paulita is in a delightful part of the world and is a charming old house converted into a Hospes Hotel. The location is ideal for a road trip, a great pre-Pyrenees stop-off between Spain and France. Underground parking is available at a price, but worth it. Our deluxe room was in the main building, under the eaves, and was tastefully decorated with a lovely turret feature where we could sit, sip wine and look aout at the views across the small lake next to the hotel. There is a line of modern rooms in the grounds which we didn't get a chance to look at. The service was outstanding, pleasant and courteous, just what we needed after a long drive. We ate in the restaurant where again nothing was too much trouble, the set menu including wine under €40 a head, and delicious.
So why only four out of five? As I said at the beginning, it's the details that count. Having a Nespresso machine at breakfast may be good for the hotel, but it's a pain in the rear for guests who have to line up, and then - like me - try three times before the machine works. Where's the good old-fashioned pot of steaming coffee?
On the plus side, free wifi in every room. At last. A top class hotel that does not scam its customers with silly prices for wifi!
And the mould? yes, unfortunately the room cleaning in this vitally important area wasn't up to scratch, the handbasin area was stained, and - you guessed it - there were those black tell-tale signs round the edges.
I like this hotel and will be back. They just need to up their game a bit and get those details polished and perfect.
