“Wasn't Bad.....Wasn't Great”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 27, 2013

My aunt & I just returned from here & had a very nice time. Its location is somewhat out of the way for exploring, but its spot on the beach is very pretty. The beach itself is not a "white sand" but a darker grayish & there was NO ONE on the beach other than a few surfers. The pools at the hotel are very nice & easily accessible, the buffet food was ok, the 2 restaurants (you could choose one for every 3 nights of your stay) were quite good, the one show we went to ("Around the World") was so AWFUL we did not attend any of the other shows. When we arrived, the hotel was VERY crowded (Saturday) and by Tuesday there were very few people. They very obviously are aimed at local tourists & we were 2 of maybe 6 or 8 other English speakers. That said, EVERYONE working at the hotel spoke English to one degree or another (& usually quite a bit better than my Spanish!! ) The room was just ok...we were in 1315 which is the 2 bedroom suite & it was large with 2 bedrooms (each with TV) , 2 bathrooms & a sitting room with a tiny sofa that opened to a bed, & a balcony. There is no elevator in that building so either walk up 3 flights of stairs (which I finally convinced my aunt to do) or walk around & through 2 other buildings to access an elevator. It is VERY evident that building1 is the oldest & it really needs to be renovated. While our room was large with extremely comfortable beds, the overall feel was one of a inexpensive motel. There is wood trim in the room that gives it a pretty touch, but again, other than the trim & the fabulously comfortable beds, it just felt cheap. I understand the rooms in the newer buildings are nicer & they have elevator access, however, I also understood that they are smaller & that the majority do not have balconies. The absolutely most fantastic thing about our stay was the STAFF. They were very friendly, helpful & just in general, nice! We especially loved Moises in the buffet & the young woman that checked us in. When we checked out at 4:15 in the morning to drive back to San Jose to catch our flights, the hotel had even prepared box lunches with bottled waters for us to take with.

Room Tip: Ask for a balcony & for a room AWAY from facing the pool if you want quiet!!

My boyfriend and I traveled to Costa Rica for an 8 day/7 night vacation at this resort and had very few complaints, if any, when we left. Both being Type-A personalities, we did our research before booking.

Firsly, I would recommend Dimas at tratursa@gmail.com for your airport transporstation and excusions. His prices are extremely reasonable and he's 100% staight up about the best places to see and what is a total waste of time. He quoted us one price for the airport transport, but becuase there were 2 other couples arriving at the same time, he cut the price in half for everyone. His prices on the local excursions were at least $15-$20 cheaper per person than the other companies we heard about. He gave us great about what to bring with us like sun block and bug spray (which will run you about $15 a bottle at the gift shop!)

Check in:
Upon our arrival, we were greeted immediately and given a map of the grounds, a spa menu and 10% discount coupon to the gift store. We got there a little early, so our room wasn't ready - We took the time to go get acclimated and grabbed lunch at the main dining area. The staff at the front desk as well as the Customer Service Reps were extremely helpful in booking our dinner reservations at the two more formal dining areas. There is complimentary wifi in the lobby, just ask for the password at the front desk.

Food/Dining Experience:
Our first impression of the food was pretty good. There were a lot of options and we both found a few items that we really liked. The service was good and they brought over our drinks pretty quickly. Over the next week, we both agreed that the quality of the food and the variety of what was being offered only improved. We loved the theme nights! The snack shop (which had been temporarily relocated due to some property improvements) had great afternoon snacks like pizza and hot dogs and hamburgers. To be honest, after reading a lot of the reviews about the food quality, I was a little nervous, but after our experience, I have zero complaints. Even though the food is kept outside all day, it is maintained extremely well. The cold food stays cold and the hot food is always kept covered and hot. We always found the fish to be fresh and have great taste. I was also worried about eating outside; that the bugs would be unbearble. But that couldn't have been further from the truth. I don't know if I saw a single insect the entire time we were there!

Room:
We had a room in building 3, the newest builidng and we were thrilled with the accomodations. It was clean and bright and had a great view, as we requested. The bathroom was cleaned and restocked every morning.

Amenities:
We used the fitness center and while it was small, there were enough options to get a decent workout in. The spa, which just opened recently, was spectacular. Stunning views and palm leave covered treatment rooms left nothing to be desired. I got the house massage and my boyfriend had the deep tissue massage - we both enjoyed our treaments and the staff was very accomodating. The pools and decks are cleaned daily and the restrooms (all over the resort) are immaculate. The beach is not the best place for swimming, but we found it to be clean and well kept. The staff at the hotel will warn you not to leave the beach beyond hotel property, but again it's not really a beach for swimming and the like. We wanted to spend a day at the beach, so we booked an excursion to Tortuga Island and were more than satisfied.

All in all, we couldn't have asked for a more enjoyable time - In hind sight, reading reviews about people "sweating to death in the lobby", "having trouble understanding the accents of the staff members", and "seeing lizards everywhere", I wonder if they realize that this resort is in Central America!

Room Tip: We stayed in Building 3 (room 3324) and we had a wonderful experience. Great view of the Quiet Pool...

We were there in October 2012. Very disappointed. Had to move 4 times in 5 days because poor room in building 1, building 3 had no air conditioning, no water for over 8 hours, floor flooded on second floor, etc. It was so hot and the food sat out all day in the heat. Beaches are not good. Was warned not to go out there after dark not safe. Food was below average. Had to ask for wash cloths every day. pool closed at dark. Not a good experience. A lot of money for a terrible vacation.. Cannot believe Hilton has its name on it.

Hi all~
Me and my partner stayed at this wonderful resort and had the BEST time ever. The service, accommodations, staff, food, location and weather was beyond belief. This was our first time in Costa Rica but it will not be our last. I will definitely stay here at the Hilton again. Just an FYI, look for outside vendors for you excursions they are much more catered and the price is much more reasonable. Enjoy

Room Tip: Choose outside excursions-much more reasonably priced

Hotel was okay for breakfast and supper. But was never arouns for lunch. Our room was great amd quiet in building 1. Pools were amazing and i enjoyed the snack bar.

We went mainly for tours. We went across the street to syl travel and randy was awesome! We got great deals amd ended up going to see the sights every say! Wouls highly recommend them for tours! Same tour as hotel but a fraction of the price! They became like family to us and always watched our back!

I did enjoy the hotel when we were there. Tip housekeeping and you get awesome towel art! Loved watching the stars at night from the comfy lounge chairs!

This hotel is a Hilton property but seemed like a best western! Not worth paying for this hotel. I luckily used points so it wasn't that bad, but come on... no real fruit in the drinks in the tropics! Food was bland and not great. Service was great, rooms were great, but the quality of the food and drinks, which is why you do "all inclusive" was not good! I would much rather have paid for good food and good drinks and just stayed at a normal hotel.

Really impressive property... after a week, we still didn't get to swim in every pool and try all the places to eat! Felt very much like we were on a cruise ship... complete with daily activites pool side, shopping, helpful, courteous (bilingual) staff and evening shows (some for adults... some for kids).

Food was tasty and had some diversion, though I'm a fan of local cuisine. Bartenders were all kind and attentive, entertainment staff were engaging and definitly captivated the audience.

Spa had just opened while we were there and we had some of the first massages. It was truly blissful to lay in the open air under a palm leaf roof and watch the waves roll and the palms sway while getting treatments. Pricing was quite good as well.

You can pay your airport exit tax as a convience (for a small $3-5 fee thereabouts) and practically any question we asked was answered quickly and correctly or the right information was found and we were advised by phone to the room.

Bed was REALLY really comfortable, water pressure fabulous, room faced one of the pools and there was no problem with noise thanks to the whir of the A/C. Amazing value for an all inclusive resort. Just under 2 hours by car from San Jose, we also drove to Manual Antonio and back in one day as well as Arenal/La Fortuna and back in one day.

Room Tip: Easy day trips to Manual Antonio and Arenal Volcano. Clean, great value. A+
