Area's of improvement : Hot water would be desirable, mosquito nets need to be repaired, small gaps in the door and walls might bother people who want privacy, music scene is way too dull, in fact non existent.
The downside : Getting to mandrem takes almost 2 hours and could cost you about 3K by prepaid taxi round trip from dabolim airport, but trust me it's worth it. If you got a license then you should really pick up a car or a bike which works out so much more economical and convenient. He has no body boards available so if you want to try surfing and they sure do have some decent waves, make sure to get your own or rent from elsewhere. Most resorts around them are pretty touchy and only rent it to their own patrons. Sea food options are limited and preparations repetitive so go elsewhere if you like your pomphret and red snapper. Take lots of odomos and sunscreen.
The upside : Most serene and wonderful stretch of beach ever, fabulously gentle waves, not too crowded and no so desolate as to bore you, extremely friendly staff and as earthy and close to nature feel as is possible in that budget. My room was 1200/night. Food and booze expenses (5k for 4 days for one person) are extra but I was too busy drinking cashew fenny to be bothered. I saw a whole bunch of dolphins fooling around off in the distance one morning, for quite a while that too. I saw flying fish right next to me not once but many times. The lifeguard sits right next to this resort so dont fear drowning, because you will be rescued rather promptly. In addition they patrol the shores by jeep and the ocean by jet-ski just to make sure no poor fool is sinking. Their banana nutella pancake is divine especially if you ask him not to skimp on the nutella and then it becomes mouth-wateringly yummy. The tandoor items seem to be the chef's strength so stick with those even if you're ordering butter garlic king fish. Their service on the beach is quite prompt and they even let you accumulate your bills and sign on them each day so you can settle just before you leave which makes perfect sense for someone who doesnt want to carry their wallet around or handle loose change or even worry about tips. But you can be sure when you leave you will want to tip them. If you are a delicate darling high society types, please stay away from here but this is a backpacker dream - a no frills deal.
