“Birthday Meal”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 days ago NEW

I took three very picky ladies to the Hobbit for a birthday meal. We arrived late because my daughters sat nav decided to take us ten miles in the wrong direction, after a call to the Hobbit they kindly put on the right road. When we arrived, nearly an hour late, there was no pressure, which was very kind. We got some drinks and were shown to our table, the whole place is very well appointed, with stunning views. We chose our starters and mains, the starters arrived very quickly, we all had different things, and everybody was very happy. After a short wait the mains arrived, again we all had different things, and again everything was well prepared and delicious. Non of us really wanted puddings, so we settled on a cheese board for two, although there was plenty for all. I nipped to the bar and asked for the bill, and could not believe how low it was for the standard of food we had eaten. we are waiting for another occasion, so that we can all go back again!!

I really enjoyed the times I stayed at this hotel, and the food in the restaurant is great! The staff couldn't be friendlier, and all in all my stays were lovely! The only reason I don't stay here that often any more is because I now require an onsite gym and this hotel isn't equipped with one. The only improvements I could suggest for this hotel is the in room WiFi. As a business traveller I needed to rely on it and in the rooms furthest away from reception the WiFi was a little touch and go. I would however stay again, the rooms including bathroom were always clean and modern with a twist. Great little hotel, in a very quite country setting!

Room Tip: I think Wifi in the rooms closest to reception or the WiFi booster would be stronger!

We stayed here as a couple as we were attending a party nearby. The New Hobbit is in an amazing location high up over the town of Sowerby Bridge and commands stunning views. The staff were very friendly and helpful, our room was lovely (we didn't have a view, I would ask for one next time), the breakfast was plentiful and really tasty and the price was great value. We would stay here again like a shot. We didn't eat in the pub, but the food looked good and got busy. All in all a lovely place to stay if you are in the area or want a base to explore.

Room Tip: Ask if they have a room with a good view.

I would just like to say a HUGE thank you to Robyn and all the staff at The hobbit for being kind, understanding, accommodating and helpful at our daughters wedding reception last Saturday, which was under a unnatural set of circumstances. They helped to make the day a huge success and our daughter and her new husband were very happy. The room was beautifully dressed and the food in the evening was great. If you are thinking of having your reception here I would definitely recommend it as a venue. The hotel rooms are beautifully furnished. The beds are very comfortable and breakfast is very good. All in all a great place for a wedding.

This is one of my favourite getaways. The staff, food and hotel are at it's best. With having our dogs with us, sometimes you can get shoved out the way but here we were made to feel very welcome with our pooches. Staff even bringing water from the kitchen for them. Sowerby Bridge itself is a beautiful place and Hardcastle Crags is a must visit. We are looking at returning in the summer and can not wait!

Its a remote location, good for the locals who know the area and want to go out for a meal, but hard for a tourist to find, especially in the dark.
Rooms are average, bathrooms are tiny. There are no alarm clocks or phones in the rooms, so make sure you take your own.
The menu seemed average for a country pub, but the full English breakfast was nothing to write home about! Breakfast was ordered and two minutes later out comes a plate of bacon, sausage, mushrooms and a Frisbee fried egg that must have been pre cooked for a little while. If you want to be remote for a night, great, but next time I will be staying in Halifax closer to more dining choices

Room Tip: As there are no heating controls in the room, ask for a room furthest away from the kitchen exhaust...

We went with family for a special anniversary, and had a super meal and stayed over in the excellent decorated rooms. The staff we're all very helpful and a credit to the management, the meal was good value for money. All in all a really pleasant stay .

Room Tip: We stayed in room no1 which was the largest room also the quietest.
