Booked three double rooms here for a friends get together. Upon arrival two of the rooms had been double booked. The owner/manager was extremely sorry and helped us find alternative accommodation but our lovely weekend away was spent at the M1 services travel lodge instead of charming Ampthill. Not really what we had in mind...

We dropped in for lunch with my wife and a friend recently, found the menu to be varied, and tempting. We had a Camembert to share between the 3 of us and the chap brought us some extra toast without us even asking as we were running low. The Burgers were brilliant and the goats cheese salad was very good. The Chips were second to none absolutely fantastic. Service was very good everything seemed to be home made and used very good quality produce was used, its not cheap but it is very good value. Great place would highly recommend this for a quality pub meal.
Many Thanks

We use B&B's frequently and understand that generally you get what you pay for. We also know that everybody can have bad day every now and then.

1. We were given a key and directions to our room, for a hotel its OK but a B&B not really.
2. Several tins of paint stored at the bottom of the stairs.
3. Several obvious cobwebs hanging from the ceiling
4. Lamp shades in bedroom and en suite were full of dead flies.
5. Fan in the shower was not working.
6. Lots of mould in the shower on the grout lines near the shower tray
7. Brown water stains on the ceiling from condensation.
8. A used bar of soap was perched on the shower.
9. On paying for the room, I was not asked if everything was OK

Positives

1. Breakfast was OK.
2. Bed sheets and towels were clean.
3. Toilet was clean.
The general feel to the room was tired and grimy.
This felt like poor quality student accommodation, and definitely not worth the money.

This is the first review that I've written that I've given an excellent. I have stayed here on many occasions whilst conducting business in the area and always find the place exceptional.

The staff are always very friendly and go out of their way to make one feel a local.

Culinary speaking the restaurant is fantastic with the chefs providing some local dishes that taste superb at reasonable prices.

Overall this is a place that I always go back to and I find myself rather dissappointed if they're fully booked.

stayed for just one night - following the path of Henry VIII progress to the north of 1541

well located on the road out of the town - good Waitrose just over the way, and a bus stop outside

ate in the restaurant - lavender creme brulee - where the company was very mixed !
breakfast good, with just the dogs for company

After a dreadful journey up the M1 we arrived at the Prince of Wales, we introduced ourselves and were given a key and told its through the door and up the stairs. My husband was grumpy anyway with the traffic so was a bit concerned that noone showed us to the room. The room was fine, it was clean, had lots of towels and a nice big bed. There isn't much more to say really as we weren't the room very long. The owner/manager did tell me that they had a Farmer's market on from about 8 am the next day and would we move our car. We did but ended up getting a ticket but anyway, what I would like to say is that breakfast was a shambles. We sat at the table and waited for menus, the young girl came over and when we asked what we could have was told you tell me what you want and I will try to cook it!!! After 20 mins of waiting my breakfast finally arrived on a plate that was stone cold so the food was cold as well, my husbands' arrived 10 mins after mine and it was also cold, he didn't eat it. needless to say we didn't have breakfast the next day, and ended up in a Service station on the way home. A chef did arrive at about 9.45am and started shouting at the young girl who was obviously struggling, not that the restaurant was full just us and another couple. this spoiled what could have been a nice couple of days away from home. Luckily the sun shone for the Bride so it wasn't so bad after all.
