“Stay at Sterling Rock Perch”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 13, 2014

One of the most lovely places I have been to..... Wonderful hospitality and service by the resort people. The Reception is very warm friendly and the Housekeeping also was the best. The view from the open sit-out as well as Balcony was superb and it provided a very lovely view of the Salem City... The food is also superb in Robesca and it tasted too yummy and did not find the pricing also high when compared to Silver Oak in Shevaroys where the service was pathetic and food was okay sort and was way toooo priced high. The rooms were also clean and well bright lit. Would rate anywhere between 4.5 to 4.75 for this place and would love to visit again when time permits. The weekend activity was great with Bonfire and games arranged by the Coordinator who was very friendly with all whether the person was a 4 year-old or a 70-year-old. He tried to please everyone and also made them join and play all the games.... Maybe the only complaint will be initially you need to get down at least 1 floor level (approx 60 steps) to reach the reception and every time you need to come out of the resort, you need to climb through stairs which is many a times difficult for aged people. If the resort arranges something for that, then it is too fine....

Room Tip: Rooms on the back side of the resort are too good where you get a view of Salem City and it is best...

3 couples went for this trip... It was a superb trip.. Splendid views from the rooms.. You can watch the sunset from the balcony of the room or living room... Also the view in the night is excellent... The location of the hotel is just perfect for the eye catching views it gives..

Service is excellent.. We had requested for Jain food, and the food provided was superb.
Courteous staff..
Special thanks to mr.Chandan Shaw. I actually forgot my portable sound system, which mr.shaw made all the efforts so it reached back to me in mumbai.

I would have given 5 stars to the property, but giving 4 only because it is under renovations... And I am sure within next 4-5 months it will get nothing below 5 stars...

Rock Perch team, thank you, keep it up.

Room Tip: Room no 207 and 208... 1bhk

Nestled at the edge of clip the hotel provides a clear view of city of Salem below and the view under lights is even better. The clear views do come up with a price the walk up and down from the room to the restaurant or other facilities can be strenuous to say the least. Moreover the quality of the food makes the walk a waste, though there is a decent spread it lacks quality. During my stay I chose to drive to hotel Shevaroy to get a decent meal.

The place is setup a little away from the lake, not that its a negative but something to ponder about if you decide to not eat at the restaurant

As one of the oldest resorts of Yercaud, time has taken its toll the resort needs to undergo a facelift. Though the rooms(cottage) themselves were alright the overall property needs upkeep to command the price it does.

Room Tip: Rooms closer to the edge provides greater privacy but weigh in the effort of walking up and down...

I think the good thing about this hotel is its staff. They were good esp Front office, room service was also prompt. Bell Desk and HK was also upto the mark. The problem with this place that it is unkept esp the public areas. There was filth lying around, rooms were very basic but had a kind of odour. Bathrooms were clean. Very very basic dont expect too much out of this hotel. We found monkeys in the resort as well. Too many steep steps to climb...People who cant climb steps stay away..

The property per se is quite average. The rooms are pricey but they are small and give a feeling of some old mountain resorts. I believe for the price they are charging they should renovate the rooms now.

The resort has too many stairs/walking up and down from reception to room and back to restaurant etc. It is heavy exercise to walk around. The resort is strictly not meant for old aged people.

It is purely a family resort with activities for kids. Since it was Saturday, there was bonfire/music/games organized for people staying in the resort. That was quite good.

The resort is at a good height with very good views. One feels that he is above the clouds.

The food we called in room service was not good at all. But the restaurant food was decent. Breakfast buffet was decent too.

The check in was smooth and staff is very friendly. Everyone dons a smile on face while serving. Room service was good and was taken well care of.

We planned for a vacation at Sterling Resorts Yercaud for 3 day in Dec 2013. We started from Bangalore by car at about 8 AM and reached the resort by 1:15 PM. The road from Bangalore to Yercaud via Salem is awesome and clean. One can drive around 120 kmph speed easily. Scenic beauty starts after Krishnagiri. However, you have to pay toll taxes at 4-5 different places. I spend around 250 bucks one side. On reaching Salem you have to enter the city and follow the straight road towards Yercaud junction and from there its 22 kms. There are 22 hair pin bends but not that steep. Driving for an amateur like me was also good.
Reaching the Yercaud, we were warmly welcomed at reception with tilak and hot water bathed towel to wipe our faces along with watermelon juice. Hotel is under renovation on the upperside. We were allotted room downside. There is a capsule lift which takes you down. Since the hotel is on the cliff the beauty outside lift window seems awesome. Reaching our room it was bit smelly like hill smell. We have to ask for a room freshener and a room heater. After taking some rest we went for a walk inside the resort. There is nothing much there but a small activity room and extended balconies through which you can view Salem city and the uphill road.
Most of the places to see are very near to the resort like Lady's Seat, Gent's Seat and Children's seat, Rose Garden, Boat House, Deer Park, Aquarium. It was but crowdy because of weekends holiday.
First Day we went for Pagoda Point which is around 5 kms from resort. There was not much crowd and not that worth going. On the way we say Montessori School established in 1917. In city you can also find Anna Park and Lake View Park. Both are just OK.
Next Day we planned to visit Botanical Garden, Lady, Gent and Children Seat, Rose Garden and Kulliyar Falls which is around 4 kms. Road is narrow and after some point you have to walk down to reach that place. Falls was not at all worth since very less water and dirty environment
Third Day we visited Raja Rajeshwari Temple, Shri Chakra Maha Meru Temple and Shervarayan Govil Temple and there is point called Kavery Point which is almost top of yercaud. There is nothing you will find but a board. But driving on Loop road was wonderful experience with both side coffee plantations. All almost on the same road. We did go for boating which costed Rs 80 for 2 seators and 80 advance which was returned after the trip. Deer Park is just next to Boating where you will see 3 Deers and others like rabbit, peacock and other birds. Aquarium too is not that maintained but you may see bit variety of fishes. Very next day we started at 8 AM from yercaud and reached Bangalore by 1 PM.

Overall yercaud is small hill station and 2 days would be enough to cover all. Not very expensive and crowdy like Ooty and Kodaikanal. Better to go with your own car if going from Bangalore. Will save you bucks for taxi

Room Tip: Ask for Regular Suite
