We planned for a vacation at Sterling Resorts Yercaud for 3 day in Dec 2013. We started from Bangalore by car at about 8 AM and reached the resort by 1:15 PM. The road from Bangalore to Yercaud via Salem is awesome and clean. One can drive around 120 kmph speed easily. Scenic beauty starts after Krishnagiri. However, you have to pay toll taxes at 4-5 different places. I spend around 250 bucks one side. On reaching Salem you have to enter the city and follow the straight road towards Yercaud junction and from there its 22 kms. There are 22 hair pin bends but not that steep. Driving for an amateur like me was also good.
Reaching the Yercaud, we were warmly welcomed at reception with tilak and hot water bathed towel to wipe our faces along with watermelon juice. Hotel is under renovation on the upperside. We were allotted room downside. There is a capsule lift which takes you down. Since the hotel is on the cliff the beauty outside lift window seems awesome. Reaching our room it was bit smelly like hill smell. We have to ask for a room freshener and a room heater. After taking some rest we went for a walk inside the resort. There is nothing much there but a small activity room and extended balconies through which you can view Salem city and the uphill road.
Most of the places to see are very near to the resort like Lady's Seat, Gent's Seat and Children's seat, Rose Garden, Boat House, Deer Park, Aquarium. It was but crowdy because of weekends holiday.
First Day we went for Pagoda Point which is around 5 kms from resort. There was not much crowd and not that worth going. On the way we say Montessori School established in 1917. In city you can also find Anna Park and Lake View Park. Both are just OK.
Next Day we planned to visit Botanical Garden, Lady, Gent and Children Seat, Rose Garden and Kulliyar Falls which is around 4 kms. Road is narrow and after some point you have to walk down to reach that place. Falls was not at all worth since very less water and dirty environment
Third Day we visited Raja Rajeshwari Temple, Shri Chakra Maha Meru Temple and Shervarayan Govil Temple and there is point called Kavery Point which is almost top of yercaud. There is nothing you will find but a board. But driving on Loop road was wonderful experience with both side coffee plantations. All almost on the same road. We did go for boating which costed Rs 80 for 2 seators and 80 advance which was returned after the trip. Deer Park is just next to Boating where you will see 3 Deers and others like rabbit, peacock and other birds. Aquarium too is not that maintained but you may see bit variety of fishes. Very next day we started at 8 AM from yercaud and reached Bangalore by 1 PM.
Overall yercaud is small hill station and 2 days would be enough to cover all. Not very expensive and crowdy like Ooty and Kodaikanal. Better to go with your own car if going from Bangalore. Will save you bucks for taxi
