This Inn is ideally situated for visiting Alnwick and both the beautiful Northumberland coast and moors. It is, literally, just of the A1 but set well back to avoid any rumbling traffic on the road., It provided a quiet ,pleasant and comfortable overnight stay with excellent restaurant dinner. We have dined here before and were not disappointed. The lamb was tender and the sweets were succulent.
The restaurant service was very good and friendly for both dinner and breakfast the next morning. The breakfast was more than adequate and with enough choice to satisfy.
The room was good even if the decor was not to our taste- dark and cream and a bit sombre.
One downside was that we had a plumbing incident in the early hours when the toilet flush handle ,already loose ,came off the wall causing a constant stream of water to pour directly from cistern into toilet bowl causing a loud racket especially at that time of day. I managed to fix it but had to remove the awkward and heavy tiled access ,dip my hand into cold running water and fiddle around for several minutes before re engaging the handle. There was no instruction of information on who or how to contact, in the event of a room problem - an omission that could have more serious consequences for greater emergencies.
Although I have rated this Inn as very good this it applies more to the restaurant. The room although comfortable ,clean and warm lacked a welcoming atmosphere but when you stay there I doubt if you will be spending much time in the room diverted by all the attractions to visit in the area ( or the bar downstairs).
