My wife and I went to the Whitehouse for our 25th Anny and stayed in the Beachfront One Bedroom Luxury suite for 10 days. The stay there was unbelievable.
The Arrival in the airport, once you get your bags and head through customs, it took us about 20 minutes or so, not bad, you are pointed to the Sandals Lounge.(on the way back, we had to wait for our plane and saw the custom's line go from a couple people to completely full, so it depends on your timing how long you will be there) I had a couple of quick Red Stripes, we were in there for only about 10 min or so, then ushered outside to the bus. We had to wait outside for another 20 to 30 min. for the bus.(they should have kept us inside until the bus came, LOL) And yes you tip the guys helping you w/ your bags. The bus, or should I say minivan ride was about an hour and a half with a stop about half way through to get a drink and go to the bathroom. You have to pay for the drink. Then back in the van and your on the way. It’s was a very curvy road and the roads there are not well taken care of, so it does get a bit bumpy.
Once there, your bags are taken off and you’re ushered into the lobby. We had "butler" service, so we were told that our butler was on her way and our check in would be done in our room. We did NOT get the glass of champagne and wet towel. Once in the room our butler showed us the room and left. I would NOT get butler service again, but a must is a room w/ concierge and a bar. (bottled water is in the bar, other than that you have to purchase bottled water at the gift shop if you don't have the in room bar) The room was awesome, one sitting room, a bedroom, bathroom w/ a whirlpool, a shower, one window in the bedroom and the balcony was really good size.
Now on to the resort. Dining was great but there could be some improvements. They seemed to be "OUT" of several items all the time. We wanted to try different things, but when they don't have it, what can you say. I had a "veggie" pizza via room service and that's just what I got, LOL. It was a thin crust pizza with a can of VegAll and cheese. Yes, carrots, peas, corn, potatoes and green beans. Giuseppes's really has a veggie pizza that is very good but that isn't the one I got. Giuseppes had good food, nothing that jumps out at me. Jasmines, same thing, it was okay. Eleanors, very nice, we ate there for breakfast and dinner several times. Our waitress, Cassinia, was absolutely wonderful. The Bayside was okay, a buffet style restaurant, the menu's change and you can have breakfast there too. The Arizona was good, here is were you can have a bacon cheeseburger, it's not on the menu, but they will make it. If they can do it, they will!! They are there to make you happy. The Bluefield was just ok, but you can try some of the Jamaican dishes there. You will have to try the Ackee and Salt cod. Ackee is their "fruit" and is everywhere. You will see them selling it on the road on your way to the Whitehouse. When cooked, it looks like scrambled eggs, LOL, I'm serious. The Bammie's there are good too, a tad spicy, but really not that hot. If it's raining towards the evening time, you might want to get reservations for the restaurant you are going to. We only had to wait one evening for about 30 min.
The bugs, we got a couple bites, they "fogged" the beach twice when we were there. But we spent most of our time at the main pool. We grabbed a couple chairs in the morning on our way to breakfast, they put a towel on each of the chairs at the main pool in the morning, so on our way to breakfast we would layout the towels on the chair. We played several of the games they have during the day. You need 100 points to win a Sandals Leather Necklace. Yes, we came home with the necklaces.
You need 300 points to get a free t-shirt, and at 5 to 15 points per person per game, you can add it up.
We went scuba diving, we had to be certified. We took the resort course and it took a couple of hours, very easy. If you plan to dive later in your life, I would take the full course there, several people did and it's very easy too, it takes a couple days to complete. These are not full days, just half days of training. The resort course was about 2 hours. The diving was great, I'm sure if your experienced divers it wouldn't be that great, but it was our first time.
We also went to the Black River/Appleton Rum tour. Excellent!!! We saw 5 or 6 alligators and they came right up to the boat. This took about an hour, then on to the Rum. The tour was very enlightening, the guide was very good. After the tour, he takes out 20+ bottles of rum and lets you drink as much as you want, no limit. Here is where you can buy some very inexpensive rum, but very good rum. You are allowed 3 - 750ml bottles of hard liquor for each person on your return to the US.
We also went to Negril for the shopping. It was okay, reminded us of shopping in Mexico. Everyone wants you to come into "My Store". We were also shown the cliff divers, that was good. We stopped for dinner at the Sandals in Negril, they also had great food, but we were bitten by mosquitos. It has to be bad, the waiters had bottles of bug spray on them for our use.
On our 10 days, we only went off the resort twice. We were content at sitting by the main pool, reading and watching. When it got hot, we would dip into the pool, hit the bar and then back to the chair. Many people would sit at the swim up bar all day. LOL...USE SUNSCREEN!!!
There is an orientation every day at 10am and 5pm, I would take this the first chance you get. It takes about 30-45 minutes. (my butler did not tell us about it)
The nightly entertainment was okay. They have things happening every night, just pick up a pamphlet at the desk in the lobby. (my butler did not give us one)
There is a chocolate and seafood buffet starting at 11pm, yes, 11 at night.
The chocolate was on Monday and the seafood was on Thursday, I think.
They also have games and books that you can check out. This is right next door to the Theater.
We felt spoiled here, and you will have fun!!
