We have just returned from a stay at the Locanda Toscanini, located in the idyllic countryside of the Tuscan countryside. The locanda is located in the pretty village of Piazze, about a ten minute drive from the towns of Cetona and Chiusi. We stayed at the locanda as we were attending a friend's wedding nearby. I emailed the locanda several times before we stayed with various requests, we were arriving by train so needed picking up at the station. The staff at the Locanda Toscanini were always prompt in their replies and very efficient, offering a range of services from pick up to drop off, excursions and wine tastings at a winery in the village which we visited and has a range of excellent local red and white wines. We were met at the station, dropped off there when we left and also given a lift to Cetona for the wedding, so they delivered on their arrangements. The locanda is very comfortable, with an honour bar, lounge and comfortable rooms with a/c, tasteful furnishings and plenty of space, although the housekeeping was average, under the bed was very dusty and I had no bulb in my bedside light for my stay but these are small complaints and not exactly something that ruined our stay. The staff are very attentive and keen for you to enjoy your stay and do a good job of not being intrusive. There is a member of staff on hand during the day but no one in the evenings. The village is a little bit out of the way so if I returned I would drive there, it is near the main Florence-Rome motorway and an easy place to explore Tuscany and Umbria from. The breakfast was a bit sweet for my taste, there is cheese, meats, cereals and bread, but most of the breakfast choices are based on cakes. The best thing about the Locanda Toscanini is that it is next door to the Ristorante Toscanini. The restaurant is run by Sergio and his wife Patrizia. I have travelled extensively in Italy, from San Remo to Naples, Venice to Rome, and without a shadow of a doubt this is the best restaurant I have eaten in in Italy. From the antipasti to dessert, Sergio will expertly deliver dish after dish of sumptuous fayre. Sergio is also an expert in wine and will recommend the best bottle to go with your choices and has facinating anecdote aftre anecdote to entertain you should desire. I still dream about the two times I ate there and I am usually hard to please when it comes to restaurants. Absolutely first class food and service. Stay at the locanda- just so you can eat at the restaurant.
