What a shame more people don't know about this gem. A friend and I were the only people there for lunch on a Wednesday - no wonder it is a bit pricey when their custom at lunch time has fallen off. It was a perfect spot for us to celebrate my friend's birthday though. And they do have a fixed price menu which is more affordable. Maybe they need to target some business and social clubs, Rotary, Lions, Probus etc. to get groups coming for special set price menus.
That said it certainly didn't impact on the quality and presentation of the food, and the service was excellent without any hovering or rush. As one other review mentioned the complimentary canape was under-whelming, so I think they should just forgo that idea completely.
We shared an entree of John Dory with smoked salmon carpaccio presented in wonderful circles and sprinkled with white balsamic pearls. We both agreed we should have ordered two plates because the pearls were a wonderful explosion in the mouth and complemented the seafood perfectly. It was a good size serving, but we wanted more - it was that good.
My mains of grilled John Dory with spinach risotto was perfectly cooked and a huge serving which I couldn't finish. My friend thoroughly enjoyed her oven roasted Barra with warm potato salad, artfully presented in a stack with tiny floral herbs. I've got to stop this review - my mouth is watering too much.
Oh - but the dessert we shared (I wasn't TOO full for that treat) was a delicate vanilla bean creme brulee with a lovely crackle to the caramel and served with a raspberry sorbet.
They also had a good wine selection. What more could you ask for?
