We had read excellent reviews here on Trip Advisor and on Booking.com and chose this site accordingly as we wanted someplace nice and a little bit away from the coast.
Location: This site is absolutely in the middle of nowhere and right at the end of the (only) runway of the new Comiso airport. It's at the junction of two main roads. Do not expect to go for a walk outside the hotel, or anywhere nearby, as it is in an industrial zone and the roads are loaded with rubbish on the sides, with trucks and heavy traffic passing and no restaurants, cafés, stores, or anything around as well as no pavement to walk on safely.
Over the weekend we didn't hear any planes. However, Monday morning prior to checkout, there were 4 takeoffs or landings within a 2 hour period. We are located directly under the planes taking off or landing: noisy!
Reception: This was the only truly positive aspect of the site. The staff were courteous and helpful and, here, spoke English. They set us up with their WiFi relatively rapidly and got us an extra pillow when requested and had someone come quickly when there was a problem with the room key. There were polite and helpful throughout.
Internet: They use an extremely convoluted system which requires you to give them a cell phone number to which they send a password which you will have to enter repeatedly every time you want to use the Internet. We were in room 215 and almost never successfully connected to their WiFi for any length of time. Luckily we had rented a 3G Hotspot from Hertz when we rented the car. If we sat outside in front of the room it would work better and it worked perfectly fine when seated in reception and there are chairs there for this purpose.
Room: We had a junior suite (215) which was large, modern, clean, with a big shower. Decor was a bit dark and lighting was insufficient. We had specifically requested a QUIET room (the request had it in all caps as well). The room we were given gives on to the back of the pool where the meals were served the nights we were there and receptions are held. Unfortunately for us the first night (Saturday) was a wedding reception which went with loud music until 2 AM. We did not leave the next day as we thought this would be unique for a Saturday night. However, on the second night (Sunday), we discovered at 21:00 that they were holding an 18 year old's birthday party and loud music again went on until 2 AM.
Pool: Relatively large, clean and with a seemingly permanent lifeguard. There is a bar at the pool it is closed from 14:30 to dinner time (20:30). It is therefore impossible to get anything to drink, or eat, beside the pool during the day.
Breakfast: Loads of pastries and cakes, one or two juices, water, cereals, a fruit salad, a few yogurts and coffee is prepared directly upon request. Avoid the hot tray with congealed eggs and bacon.
Restaurant: We ate here on our first night. No one speaks English or French. The menu is normally a fixed menu with one or two choices per course. We didn't like anything on that menu at ate à la carte. Very limited choice. The fish both in pasta or served as a course appeared to be frozen. The ham and melon was OK. The pasta was dried pasta. I had a Tiramisu for dessert which was OK but certainly not prepared by the chef. There was no wine list. But we asked for a good bottle of red and were pleased with that suggested (Alta Villa 2010).
After being relatively disappointed with our meal on Saturday we were determined to eat elsewhere on Sunday. We went to Vittoria and spent well over half an hour walking around town, following Trip Advisor recommendations, only to find that absolutely every restaurant was closed for the summer. We were so desperate we went back to the hotel for our Sunday dinner which was, unfortunately, the same quality as the night before.
We had booked 3 nights here and after the 2nd night we cut our stay short and went to a hotel in Ragusa. We complained at reception as regards the noise and location of our room and they courteously gave us a reduction on one night's stay (double room price instead of junior suite price).
The only situation in which I would recommend this hotel is if you are using it as a quick overnight stay while travelling from one location to another or if you have kids which need pool time with a lifeguard after a day sightseeing.
