“A room with a VIEW”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 15, 2010

We spent two nights here after a stay on the coast and werent sure what bto expect from central Gran Canaria. To say we were not disappointed is a massive understatement. The drive inland from any coastal route is amazing and make the drve to the hotel worthwhile but nothing had prepared us for the beautiful views form the hotel itself. The hotel sits on a ridge overlooking Roqu Bentayga and views to the coast and over to mount Teide on Tenerife. As well as it's amazing views the hotel itself is tastefully and comfortably decorated with friendly and helpful staff. The food was also very good. The hotel has only been open for a year (following a refurbishment) and they are still awaiting permission to open a spa. Cant wait to go back.

My partner and I are on our second trip to Gran Canaria. We had stayed on the coast last time but had visited the 'interior' and wanted to get a better feel for it this time.
The hotel is beautiful and the views from it are outstanding. We had a very spacious and comfortable room, with a good sized balcony. The staff at the hotel were always willing to help. Some did not speak English but it seemed not to damp the enthusiasm they had to make our stay enjoyable.
We only ate an evening meal in the hotel on the first night but thoroughly enjoyed it. My partner took the pork knuckle; she's Polish and enjoys 'Golonka', but I doubt she's seen many Polish pigs with knuckles this large! I took fish - less of it, but, nonethelsess, a very enjoyable meal. We took the buffet breakfast each morning as there was a good level of choice and plenty of it.
Although this was more of an active few days for us - we took walks from the hotel towards both Teror and Artenara, it was a little disappointing that the spa was still closed; it could have been very nice for the aching legs after the walk back from Teror!
Overall though, our experience at the Cruz de Tejeda has left us with a desire to spend more short vacations based here as well as trying out other Parador hotel locations

We went here for a few days after Maspalomas. On arrival I was really excited - the drive up is fantastic, the hotel has a beautiful design and interior decor and the rooms are really fantastic - they have a lovely terrace with mountain views and remote controlled visors over it. Really cant fault the visual impact of the place for the money - and lots of nice art to boot to tempt the senses. So on arrival really happy......
But unfortunately it is fur coat no knickers - I suspect it will get better as the season moves on, but we were not impressed. Firstly the pool, spa and gym advertised were not open at all, at any point (we were in the mountains with the rain - not their fault, but we had expected something to do!). Indeed we had not been to the spa in our previous hotel, as we planned our treats up here - no such luck. There was no explanation from the staff on arrival, we simply went to it and doors were locked and eventually we found someone who explained that they didnt have the 'paperwork' - then dont advertise the facilities and certainly apologies to the guests - dont leave them guessing. The second issue was the food - we had a few meals here and it is not very good. We had cold burger at lunch, lost order, lost bill, average main dining experience. All in all, not good enough. I wish I could say service made up for it but it was average - polite but not able to enable us to enjoy the stay by explaining what was on offer (given facilities were shut!) Perhaps if they nail the food and open the facilities it could be great - but really sorry to say, we wont chance it and looking at a pretty pool and spa wasnt what we had in mind.

Brilliant room - large , comfortable with an excellent bathroom, but most amazing feature is the view from the huge balcony,
Weather variable when we were here - don't expect the non-stop sunshine of the south coast. Walking from the hotel absolutely brilliant.
The food in the dining room is top class - we made the mistake of going for 3 course dinner on the 1st night which was far too much in quantity although excellent. On subsequent nights only had one course. Also possible to eat light meals in the cafe/bar or in the residents lounge around the log fire - and we certainly needed that fire when we were there.
Staff all very friendly and helpful although some of them didn't speak good English.
Would heartily recommend this hotel especially for keen walkers
Only downside pool/spa not open yet

We were staying at the Cordail Mogan Playa, in Puerto Mogan and just popped up here for 2 nights. They were running a special offer: B&B for 75€ (half-price) - I think this was just for Amigos (a scheme anyone can join and it gives you a free drink on arrival & points for each visit and of course, offers like this one). We have never stayed in a Parador we didn't like or had a bad experience. We have stayed in around 13 by now and love the way they are nearly all buildings of antiquity, stunningly renovated into a luxury hotel with large rooms, exquisite bathrooms, balconies & rooms. We really put them to the test this time by arriving a day early (how did we manage that? No like us. A senior moment, I guess?) but they recovered & found a room. Very Bond-like, where you go down from reception (visit the Parador in Ribadeo to get more like this!). A beautiful interior - only been re-opened a few months (spa still closed!). Huge rooms with a wooden balcony and an electric shutter (continuing the Bond theme!). I supply some photos from the balcony - stunning especially at sunset, where you can see the rock of Bentayga and also the peak of Tenerife's El Teide. You're almost a mile up at this spot - so it does get cold at night but the stillness - the peace! We did 2 walks - one a small loop to the south (out and opposite the hotel), just an hour or so and then a full day's walk to Artenara - beautiful hill/forest walk with views, shade, caves, wildlife (partridge!) and a picturesque village (highest on the island) of Artenara. Several bars/restaurants to choose from and then walked back (there's no public transport!) but it was only 3 hours but quite a slog before the sun sank! The hotel has a cosy, large lounge with solid furniture & fires, magazines etc plus waiter service. The bar is awful - very modern - cafe-like and only worth using during the day. Maybe set out for the day-trippers? The room has a fridge and we usually bring our own G&Ts and sit on the balcony, listening to absolutely nothing. Our alojamineto had breakfast included and it IS worth it at these places - every kind of food you could wish for . .smoked salmon, expresso machine or a pot brought to your table, pastries, full fried, meats & cheeses, juices, yoghourts . . .all laid out on a very ultra-coll, minimalist surface. We had one evening meal there - always an expensive fare but excellent service, top wines and peculiar menus of the locale . . . cordillo of pork (sort of pork shank - huge!), a plate of local meats & cheese, bienmesabe for dessert plus a bottle of Ribera del Duero - came to 90€! A superb place for a one or two-night stopover but watch for special offers.
A local folk group turned up & did some dancing, oddly enough being filmed by team from the Daily Telegraph for their website, surreal but a very pleasant free concert.

I am staying here at the moment, and enjoying a touch of luxury!
We have a lovely, large room, with two huge, comfortable single beds, a bathroom with two basins, television with good reception, a large balcony and a view! a view to die for! Although the weather has not been brilliant, we have watched the clouds come and go, revealing an uninterrupted panorama of wonderful mountain vistas.
We ate in the restaurant yesterday and just had a light meal, which was good value and with excellent service.
There is a large, comfortable lounge with a log fire, comfy sofas and newspapers. Also free computer use.
And the best thing is that we are only paying 60 Euros a night (just the room, no breakfast) which I think is stunningly good value.
