“Relaxation Heaven!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 25, 2009

This was our first holiday without our children. We were looking for something special, with no children around to enjoy complete relaxation. God did we find it! We really can't believe some of the reviews that have been written, do wonder if people were staying in the same place as us! Our beachfront cottage was amazing, spacious and so so clean. Never been anywhere before where the housekeeping staff spend an hour per room cleaning. The food was fantastic and yes the birds could be a bit of a problem at breakfast. Only advice is that if you sit in the smoking section the birds tend to avoid you.
The staff were very friendly, although some were a little shy at first, but if you make a bit of an effort with them they soon open up. The island itself is beautiful and if you get the chance make sure you enjoy one of the picnics at one of the hammocks. A lovely, private and romantic time. The one thing that did amaze us was how friendly everyone was, not just the staff but all the other guests too. We went for the February half term week and must admit visitors from the UK were in the majority with other guests from America and Canada. Everyone spoke to each other and many entertaining evenings were had by all at the bar! We can't recommend this hotel enough... although don't tell too many people or we won't be able to get booked in for next year!

My husband and I stayed on Palm Island for a week at the end of Jan, beginning of Feb 09 and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We are seasoned travellers and have stayed at some of the best hotels in the world so we were slightly concerned reading some of the reviews before arriving but we had a lovely holiday. The island itself is very picture postcard, the sand is really, yes really that fine and the water that blue!! No camera trickery going on!! We had grand plans of seeing other islands and experiencing the trips on offer but with the island being so relaxing and chilled, we did absolutely nothing. Great staff, especially Kimroy, who looked after us the evening we had dinner (and danced barefoot in the sand) at the heart tree for my husbands birthday (which I highly recommend booking) Also Sydney behind the bar, lovely cocktails served with a smile !
We had a Palm View Room which was perfect, nice, large and airy in traditional caribbean style with a large bathroom with separate bath and shower. The minibar in the room wasn't the best we've ever had, it only supplied soft fizzy drinks (no water), beer and white wine (we don't drink beer or white wine only spirits and red wine so thats just our small gripe). The food was lovely at each meal, and the Friday night BBQ is not to be missed. My husband said the lobster was the best he's ever had and that really is saying something! Afternoon tea isn't that great, just a few sandwiches and slices of cake so don't expect a three tiered silver stand as its not that kind of thing, but this didn't bother us at all as lunch was plentiful and filling that most times we were still full at dinner after giving afternoon tea a miss anyway.
Now the question is... we will return......most definately!! In fact we are already planning our next trip.
P.S Just a tip on the flight connections as our flight from London Gatwick to Barbados only had about a 45 min connection slot for the Grenadine Airways flight. We decided not to chance it and stayed overnight in Barbados until the next day. Other travellers on our flight to Barbados, who were due to fly the same day to the Grenadines missed the connection so something just to be aware of !

We spent 8 nights at Palm Island January 15-23, 2009. Loved the resort. Had read some of the reviews and wondered if we had made the right decision. We did, absolutely. We stayed in a beach front bungalow and loved the sound of the waves crashing on the shore. The nights were perfect for sleeping, if you turned off the lights and opened the louvers on the windows the breeze kept us cool. 2 nights we even had to use the light blanket. All in all we had wonderful weather.

We cannot say enough about the staff being friendly, remembering our names after the first day, etc. Our room was kept immaculate with towel changes including beach towels twice a day with nightly turn down with little notes on the pillow.

The managers Rick and Mickail were outstanding. They have just assumed the management 3 months ago so things are "looking up" for this wonderful gem.

The food was outstanding - my husband is a retired chef. The Friday night bbq was great with lobster tails, steak and ribs. Breakfast was plentiful - try the raisin bread french toast with rum syrup. I had the lunch special one day - "boil up " - a caribbean type stew - the best lunch I had all week. Many, many choices for lunch and dinner each day. Local fish, steak, lamp chops, pork chops and an excellent vegetarian pasta dish. The pastry chef even prepared a delicious chocolate cake for my husband's birthday.

The bar staff did a great job making everyone welcome before and after dinner. They suggested drinks we might not have tried otherwise. "Oh the Licorice Mist".and Knockouts.......

Our favorite part was the friends we made. There were 10 of us on the plane from Barbados - all ages, from all over the world, US, England, Ireland and Italy -by the end of the week we had our own little group "The Happy Island Gang". We asked the managers to arrange transportation for us to go to Happy Island - a floating island bar in Clifton Harbour on Union Island.

The only disappointment was the snorkeling - because of the winter swells we were unable to snorkel from the beach . We did take the day sail on Scaramouche to the Tobago Cays and snorkeled with the turtles, that was an amazing day.

We loved the pool in the late afternoon for relaxing before getting ready for dinner. Behind the pool area is shuffleboard, horse shoes and croquet. We enjoyed these games in the late afternoon we our new found friends.

The library is well stocked for borrowing a book, there is also a television and computer to reach the outside world if you want.

I can't think of one thing we would change about our week except we wish we could have stayed longer. When we arrived I wondered what we would do for a week on a small island - we could have stayed longer doing nothing but deciding if we layed on a lounge on the beach or at the pool reading or taking a bike ride around the island to one of the remote hammocks and having lunch delivered.

All in all a great vacation with wonderful memories. We will return.

We are repeat guests at Palm Island mainly due to the friendly staff and the location which is a five star! Continuity of management is still a real problem as we encountered a new GM once again who has issues. As I stated before the staff are very friendly once you start a cordial conversation with them and not be an ugly tourist. The food was repetitive but very good. The bar service was excellent and during the day they served drinks on the beach. The beach and grounds are beautiful and the cottages #9 through #19 by the beach are our favorites as no air conditioning is needed due to the continuous breeze. A new addition is a multiple bedroom guest house named Sea Feather on the windward side of the island which is just outstanding. Taking the Captain Yannis out to Tobago Keys for snorkeling is just fabulous. In one area that is protected you will be swimming with the turtles!
Palm Island is a place that you can unwind as soon as you step onto the dock and are given a cocktail as they escort you to your room. Bugs can be an issue when the showers come as that is when sand flies come out. This past January we had very little rain so the sand flies were not an issue but some black flies and the black birds during breakfast were a nuisance. Hope to come back next year!

My girlfriend and i were in Palm Island for two weeks at the end of November/Early December.
We are regular travellers, and whilst we have been to places with better food, better snorkelling, better spa etc etc, all round this is an exceptional place, made all the better by the top service from all of the staff, both Bar and Restaurant. Having read some some of the reviews questioning the staff's commitment, I can only assume they must have an attitude themselves........ we engaged in fantastic banter with all staff members........ You get out of it what you put in....if you are ignorant to them, i suspect that may be why you experienced difficulty.

Beautiful island, beautiful people, good food, and peace and quiet.............. a real recharge of the batteries holiday !

The Friday barbecue was sensational...as much fresh lobster as you could wish to eat.

Special thanks to Kimroy on the bar, and the chef who cooked and presented a barracuda that I had caught on a fishing trip earlier in the day.

We met some great people from both Britain & America, and enjoyed our nights sat around the bar hearing tales from far and wide.

The only two minor moans would be the mozzies, and the manager who seemed more interested in engaging with American tourists rather than the British.....buts its a small price to pay for paradise.

If you get the chance...........go and enjoy

My boyfriend and I traveled to Palm Island this past June and stayed in beachfront cottage. The room was a good size and was worth staying in for the wonderful breeze that would come every night or else we would have melted as the air conditioning did nothing. We loved being able to snorkle right off the room and see all the wonderful fish. We did snorkle with Captain Yannis which is a must. We also went deep sea fishing, which I wouldn't do again. The sunset cruise was beautiful as well as the picnic lunch.
Our biggest issues with the island was the food and the staff. Breakfast was the same thing for 10 days. And what was at the buffet was slim pickings. I found it very hard to believe that in June the only fruit they had was watermelon, mellon, apples and pineapple! Lunch was usually some sort of left over from dinner that was redone. One lunch took us over 3 hours! The lunch menu also didn't change much during our stay. Dinner wasn't much better either. The first 5 days we were there the fresh catch of the day was swordfish. They didn't have a local fish the entire trip. It was all cold water fish. We were promised lobster by the manager only to find out that it's not in season. I also find it hard to believe that you can't get room service! Most of the staff was very rude. Most meals were met with some sort of attitude. Thank goodness for the great bar staff! ( There are only 3 meals a day here and a small snack served around 4. If you're hungry, you're out of luck.)
As we were leaving the manager asked my boyfriend about our stay and he voiced his concerns about the food and staff. The manager wanted to hear nothing of it and walked away while my boyfriend was talking to him!
Palm islands location is absolutely beautiful. It could be a wonderful place if they worked on a few things, and I hope they do. 10 days there was way too long. We tried to leave early, but couldn't. We only wish we spent the extra money and went to PSV.

Our first visit to Palm Island was last year (2007) which was perfect in every way, It came to a decision for our Honeymoon in which we scanned the brochures for the perfect place for us to go but every idea led back to Palm Island.
We returned to Palm Island In the middle of November but everything is not the same.
We were not met by the Manager as we landed at the jetty infact it took us 3 days to find out who he was (he had been at the island for three weeks)
The service in the Palm Restaurant was at best pretty useless, Breakfast was not pleasant as it seemed that the staff were not getting on with each other, we were given a menu one morning and the waitress came over and raised her eybrows and stood waiting for our order (no verbal communication whatsoever).

My wife and I had plenty of discussions with other guests many returning like us and all said the same about th service.

Ok rant over

This Island is one of the most beautiful places in the world with an abundance of wildlife, Paradise where you can relax and do nothing, if you want nightlife and entertainment this is not the place for you.

We were upgraded this time from Palm View to ocean view......the Palm View rooms are nicer and larger

Everywhere is spotlessly clean it is a 5 star resort with 2 star service.

I hope the Manager gets this place back to its former self as we thought we had found our little piece of paradise.
